The special seems to be a 25th anniversary tie-in, so I wouldn‘t expect anything on that level next year. Unlikely, but I definitely wouldn‘t mind more sets based on RTG from what we see in the trailer (and there will surely be even more insanity in the actual special)  

The best we can hope for next year is what they seem to be doing already anyway (for the most part), a healthy mixture of sets from different eras. From 2026 onwards we will finally see the release of new movies again, which they will surely capitalise on

As I've said before, while these don't bother me too much, I really think people need to understand why lego does remakes. We aren't the primary consumers of lego, it's kids. Hence why lego tries to keep falcons, X-wings, and TIEs on shelves more or less constantly. If the option is I lose out on my Kino Loy Breakout set so kids can have a new X-wing, or my Haulcraft doesn't come out because the Falcon needs to be availible, yeah, that makes sense.

Oh, I get that. But there’s a different solution: just extend the shelf life of the existing sets  The TROS Falcon for instance is still available for that exact reason and other popular sets have survived for ages without remakes to replace them.

That said, the new RTG sets fulfill the same purpose but with a twist for long-term fans as well, so we have the best of both worlds here

Anyone else feel like that Nien Nunb, besides from Young Leia, was not exactly the best choice for an anniversary figure? He could have easily fit in any Rebel star fighter set.

Cal’s excellent as Lego said they wouldn’t make any JFO sets, Fives is ok as he’s not a commander and probably wouldn’t have been made otherwise, R2 KT is good for obvious reasons, Malak was excellent as there will never be another KOTOR set and Saw is ok as he’s a bit too dark for Lego to make normally.

Yeah he could have been in an RotJ Falcon or a Home One set, or as you said put in with a starfighter like how Lando, Ackbar and Han have all been included with A-Wing sets. Could've replaced his anniversary slot with some other popular character, I believe her name was Mary Jane? Eh close enough.

Agreed. It’s so cool to finally have him in minifig form, but out of all the anniversary figures, he’s by far the easiest to include in a regular set. It is what it is tho

Which is funny, because the leaks for The Acolyte had Paul as the codename for the Sith lord, and he may actually be in a set next year  (unless “Paul” isn’t the guy with the sick helmet but actually his master, in which case his role would likely be too small for a set, à la Snoke in TFA)

If the situations were swapped, Luke would definitely run Paul's fade, as the kids say. He's got that Anakin in him, after all.

Also, Rush Clovis canonically tried to Paul Anakin, and uh, died for it.

Yeah, I think Lego saw the unabating demand, didn't have a set planned/slot open for him, and decided to throw him in with the anniversary figures. I think all of the anniversary figures could've had sets designed for them, but I'm happy to be able to get them either way.

If you are right, then that means there are no J:FO, R1 (or Rebels), TCW-specific, or RotJ Rebel sets planned for the next 1-2 years. 🫤

I think we were expecting no JFO sets. Fives is a bit more obscure so I wouldn’t have expected him in a TCW set unlike Gree or Bly who were in the movies. Rogue One sets (10th anniversary sets please!!) I wouldn’t expect to involve Saw as there’s so many main characters to deal with already. ROTJ rebel sets are definitely the most baffling though. Maybe they only have ANH rebel sets planned? But I’m concerned as that doesn’t bode well for an A-Wing remake.

I could see him appearing in a gunship, though Wolffe would be more likely in that case.

True, but he could appear in any set based on the Jedha portions of the movie (crawler (not hover, in R1!) tank, Partisan X-wing, Saw's hideout, possibly a U-wing, an AT-ST if we do not get an Endor one by then, etc); we would need remakes of the Jedha variants of Jyn and Cassian anyway.

Shhh.... there are enough people already asking for a new republic gunship. Don't let them hear you!

(It's been less than a year, guys. I'm not even against new GAR sets in that cost bracket. Let's get an ARC, or even a system Venator. But the republic gunship doesn't need to be made more frequently than the falcon. I'm a fan of them keeping the most popular stuff on shelves consistently, but a new one before the old one retires is INSANE)

I literally gave up and made my own a few years ago (Looks cool, but I didn't have a strong enough skeleton so without a stand it's hilariously floppy).

And we already know Paul's kids wouldn't so much as slow Anakin down. I feel like Luke wouldn't even have to deal with that situation though- Mara wouldn't do that to him. Because she's the best currently legends- only character (don't worry, Revan's technically canon) and should have been an anniversary fig. 

 

I know this is beating a long-dead horse, but I am really confused by the anniversary fig selection, with it being 5-6 long-requested characters and one pretty bland choice. I can't imagine it was just because she's a female character, because Mara and Aphra seem like much better choices. I can't imagine it was just because she was from the live action shows, because Krrsantan, Koska, Axe, etc would have been better choices. This was also our best chance at Kino Loy, a character pretty much 0 kids would be remotely interested in, but I'm gonna keep my unrealistic expectation that he was considered for the anniversary figs.

An ARC-170 would be cheaper than a new gunship, and a Venator would be a bit more expensive - We need remakes of both, though (along with a 7-95, V-wing, AT-OT (with Bly), Juggernaut (with Gree), and maybe a V-19 Torrent)! I also would love to get a SPHAT and a UT-AT (with Bacara and Galactic Marines), but those are much less likely, IMO. The reason that we want a new gunship is because the one currently on shelves is 1.) a nonstandard variant, and 2.) poorly-constructed (too small and squished-looking, and lacking the smooth sleekness of the on-screen craft).

I never said all that, to be fair. I only said that was probably the case for Nien Nunb. And, yes, I've admitted defeat on Rebel ROTJ sets for the foreseeable future, Jedi is more of a redheaded step-child than The Phantom Menace is apparently... 

Fives has no good set options unless we go all the way back to Umbara (which cool as it would be, seems unlikely), Fallen Order is blacklisted by Lego/Disney/Both, Rogue One hasn't had a set since 2017 and do you really think we'd get Saw from Rebels?

I've already said it in this thread (and got promptly ignored ), but none of these anniversary figures feel like anniversary figures. All of them could've carried sets on their own. I'll make the exceptions for Malak, Saw, and R2-KT, but Fives, Nien, Cal and now Leia seem like odd choices. Even if we exclude Cal from the "should be in sets" list, Mara Jade, a new Starkiller, Aphra as you mentioned. Heck, skip the Jedi Bob starfighter and make him an Anniversary figure, it would definitely feel more special.

Happy to be getting some fan favorites, but man, they don't feel like they carry enough weight.

LAAT/i, Coruscant police gunship (though I would prefer an Imperial version), Nu-class or Rho-class shuttle, etc, are all good options. I could also see him being added to something like a Z-95 or Republic Y-wing, since they featured in the Battle of Umbara.

IMO, an ARC-170 would be around $80, so a lower price point than the Dark Falcon.

Other choices are: Dedra Meero, Darth Talon, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane, Mara Jade, Jaina Solo, Merrin, Mara Jade, Jedi Leia, Mara Jade or maybe even Mara Jade.

Also Luke Starkiller should have been an Anniversary figure. Fight me.

Is Mara Jade our equivalent to what Luigi’s pizzeria was for the DC thread?

Good points, but again, unlikely to be made within the next couple of years, we didn't even get a Republic Shuttle throughout all of Bad Batch, which was a relevant release opportunity.

I'm aware of that, but my point is that even if we get anymore Rebels sets (which is highly unlikely, unfortunately, as they didn't sell well), we wouldn't get a Rebels version of Saw. A RO set would've been the only way we got him.
