MaximillianRebo Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I feel like with the long lead time from initial set design to release coupled with shifting release schedules for the shows themselves, it's entirely possible an Acolyte set or two shows up in the next summer wave. At the same time sets based on well established media have been designed and then shelved before reaching the release stage, so who knows Quote

Looks like this will be the only show not to get even a single set. That's a shame because Qimir would have made a really cool minifigure. Noooo, this is genuinely disappointing, I was really looking forward to the possibility of a couple of sets. I hope they didn't just do this because of all of the manufactured outrage and that it actually had a subpar performance that genuinely justifies cancelling it. Quote

Releasing sets a year later is commonplace to avoid spoilers. However, now that the show has been cancelled due to insufficient ratings, they might cancel the set(s) if any were ever planned to begin with, and we likely would never find out I don’t think they’ve ever released sets based on something after it had already flopped. 1 minute ago, AD_Bricks said: […] that it actually had a subpar performance that genuinely justifies cancelling it. It did, the ratings were lower than Andor’s. Combine that with the huge budget, and yeah… It does annoy me though how in the age of streaming, shows aren’t given time to find an audience. If they don’t succeed immediately, they’re done for. Shows like Breaking Bad and Star Trek TNG would never have survived past their 1st season nowadays Quote
Legoman123 Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I didn't personally enjoy The Acolyte but I really did want a season two so we could finally start exploring the back story of Darth Plagueis and the history behind him, something I was really looking forward to was seeing Darth Tenebrous. What do people think the likelihood of seeing a series based around these two is now? Quote

Shows like Breaking Bad and Star Trek TNG would never have survived past their 1st season nowadays This is such a good point. How many critically acclaimed TV shows, regardless of genre, have the caveat that they get significantly better after Season 1? Too many to count. I honestly just wanted a small duel set with Qimir, Sol, and Jecki as they were the standout characters of the show (plus Episode 5 was universally well received). It’s a shame that’s looking unlikely now, but I’m still quite excited to see what’s on the cards for system scaled sets next summer as Andor will be the only piece of ‘new’ content releasing next year. We’ve already seen a lot of iconic OT ships / characters / scenes tackled this year, which significantly frees next year up for some interesting stuff. Edited August 20, 2024 by Kaijumeister Quote

Excellent point! Quite a few of the usual remake aspects will still be on shelves, which should result in some new stuff combined with overdue remakes in 2HY 2025 I’m expecting the usual mixture between OT, PT, TCW, and Mando sets plus maybe a new ST X-Wing (ideally even as the May UCS set, unlikely as it may be). Out of these, I’m mostly looking forward to more sets based on the Mandoverse shows. I doubt they‘ll take a backseat next year, with the hype around the movie already building up at that point. Quote
Flieger Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Well, I would have loved to get my hands on some of those High Republic Jedi, they look nice. And Bazil in particular could have been an amazing minifig. It is rather hard to imagine that with an 180 Million budget for the Acolyte, Disney would not want toy and collectible sales. And Lego is the largest toy company (and more...). If there is truly nothing then it is because Lego does not see a chance for profit here. And if Andor, with its rather mature (for a TV show) anti-fascist themes, can get a Lego set, it was not that The Acolyte was too dark or anything. Quote
FullBrickDev Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I would have liked to have seen Qimir in minifigure form simply for the helmet, and more High Republic Jedi wouldn't hurt as @Flieger said. Quite puzzling indeed that a 180 million budget didn't yield any sets. Quote

I'm super curious about this, now that you bring it up. I think that the Justifier and Andor set probably both didn't do well, in the case of Andor because of price, in the case of the Justifier because it was way too big of a price point for a niche vehicle like that, but I feel like the other sets generally seemed to sell well, unless I'm forgetting something. The Kenobi sets didn't have a super long shelf-life, but I also didn't see them hanging around much, so I'd be curious to know sales figures there. The only other sets, to my recollection, have been the recent Ahsoka ones (where it remains to be seen how they do), TCW S7 (which sold out instantly everywhere and took like months to get to a point where they were commonplace on shelves), and Mando/Book of Boba Fett (which has been the property that LEGO seems to focus on most today, so I'm assuming they do well. Lordhelmet Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I really want to see the images of the sail barge. I am a little concerned about how they do Jabba given the weird eyes lately. Are we thinking early September reveal? Quote

My guess is a combination of factors, mainly them wanting to avoid spoilers (took us a while to see close-up images of Qimir‘s helmet even), the release date uncertainty, and the darker tone of the show Quote

Granted, a lot of these are older/limited series, but a show simply existing does not mean that it unequivocally deserves a Lego set. We do have Anakin's custom Jedi starfighter from the '03 series which is crazy to think about. I agree though, but the rest are rather experimental, mostly noncanonical small scale projects. 52 minutes ago, FullBrickDev said: Quite puzzling indeed that a 180 million budget didn't yield any sets. ginja Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Thing with acolyte and to a degree andor, is that the series are focused on characters and most lego sets are ships or locations. I really liked acolyte, but I am not sure what they could make a set out of aside a duel type set. Quote

Very sleek design and I like the idea of it having two separate cockpits Quote
OOM-9 Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 If the show were more of a success they’d find a way to make things. Could do Sol/Jedi ship or Qimir’s ship. They could do a forest duel set similar to Peridea or smaller like the series of $20 duel sets they’ve done depending on amount of figs. Could do a cave training set in the same vein as the Ach-To Last Jedi set they did. Or a duel set in the witch camp from the final episode. Alas, the show was meh at best. Decent fight choreography and a few good actors couldn’t overcome the sloppy writing, canon/philosophical diversions, and non-characterization. I’m much more frustrated over only one Andor set to date. Luthen’s ship is a no-brainer and yet we wait. Quote
Kaijumeister Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 (edited) With quite a few regulars from Rogue One such as K2 along with ships like the U-Wing being confirmed to feature in the show (going by D23 footage anyway), I don't think Lego will scoff at the opportunity to revisit Andor. I can definitely see a U-Wing being done next year that significantly improves upon the 2016 iteration, and heck even the Fondor may not completely be off the table - although I wouldn't be surprised if it gets significantly downsized like the T-6 just so it's a less risky move on Lego's end. As much as the cost and lack of more Corpos was an issue, I still maintain that Ambush on Ferrix is one of the best vehicle sets we've seen in this theme. Extremely sturdy, generous interior, and excellently done shaping. The ship may have been small, but it was dense and had a good heft to it. Even the speeder bike build was great. I'll still keep my hopes up for something from Jedi: Fallen Order or Survivor next year. Plenty of loopholes to circumvent the anniversary figure rule around characters that would never have been included in sets of their own otherwise. Also, extremely trivial nitpick but does anyone else here get annoyed by the over-reliance on using TLJ Luke's hairpiece for long-haired characters? It didn't work for Cassian and it doesn't work for Ezra. I don't know why Lego refuse to just recolour the Mad-Eye Moody hairpiece in black, it works so much better for long haired characters. Swordy Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 I’ll wait and see on Acolyte Season 2. It’s too early to see if Deadline’s report will prove true or not. That said, I don’t believe a lot of people watched Acolyte to care enough about it. Maybe the numbers were so bad that Iger had to cut it this short? Either way, this news does hurt chances of any Acolyte sets, and for that I think LEGO was wise to skip it. People (okay, one YouTuber in particular, but I’ll refrain from saying his name) always make the case for every single movie he or she enjoys to feature a LEGO set. I’ve come to the conclusion that not everything deserves, much less requires, an official LEGO set. If it happens, hooray for the film’s fans. If not, then create your own build to celebrate that film you enjoy. I don’t need an Elite TIE Defender from Rebels as much as someone else needs a MBS Geonosis from Episode 2. We each like what we like, and we’re appreciative of what we do get. Concerning the discussion on Andor S2 sets, I expect one if at all; two if we’re extremely lucky. A Fondor at $150 or a U-Wing at $140—if the U-Wing even shows up. *laughs in Jedi Vector cameo* I can see the argument for a buildable B2EMO or K2-S0, but I cling to the hope that we’ll get two playsets instead. Andor has its fans, and they increase every day, but I doubt most of them are the type of fan who’ll buy the merchandise for that show. Correct me if I’m wrong, though. Given that LEGO hasn’t returned to Rogue One since 2017, I doubt we’d get a return in 2025. That said, the chances do go from 0% to 1%, and something-something-Batman-something-something-100%-chance. I agree, while it was definitely pricey and could have used extra figures, the build was phenomenal. I ended up buying a second when it was on a good discount just because it was so solid and well built. I get that it isn't a popular ship per se, but if it had been $60 with 2 extra Corpos, it would be an S tier set imo. Quote
CloneCommando99 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 You know, I think we’re very likely to get a new A-Wing next year. It’s an iconic vehicle and the last one was in 2019. Quote

Could be anything atm but I’m wondering if we are getting a Jedi Starfighter, a 4+ Mando N1 and an ARC170, that’s quite a few fighters on the shelves already. I’d rather Lego throw in some more land based vehicles or location sets. with the Mandolorian and Grogu film and the Ashoka S2 and whatever Thrawn pops up in next there is going to be a lot of new republic/imperial remnant sets coming so I’d rather Lego make new versions of things from those shows when they come out rather than remakes now and instead focus on stuff that we haven’t had in a while (like the Arc170) Quote

Oh, absolutely, that piece is soooo overused. I have it on 7 different figures in just dark brown. It worked okay for Sirius in 2019, but then in 2022 they put Sirius in a heap of sets without giving him anything more accurate, and then it showed up on Ezra, Michael Corner, Scabior, Cassian, etc. Would not Lloyd's hairpiece (which, by the way, already existed in dark brown) have been spot on for Cassian? His hair isn't even that long and the way Lloyd's is parted and tousled is perfect. Edited August 21, 2024 by AD_Bricks Quote
starlego98 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 So in 2025, the only new media we'll be getting is Andor? It's been almost a decade since we've had so little material. I wonder what LEGO has planned for next year, because the only sets I expect to be based on media are from The Mandalorian. Quote

No disagreement here. The set was great. It it is just that the show is really ... adult, mature. It is not the vapid 2000s young adult stuff like Twilight with its brooding, 'dark' (buff, topless) characters spouting supposedly 'deep' one-liners that The Acolyte tried and failed to imitate. (Though we should not forget that The Acolyte was called a huge success by some based on a screenrant article ). Andor got really dark and deep (for a TV show) at times, and I have to admit I am not sure if I want that as a Lego set. I like the troopers, especially the ISB troopers, and in Lego form they would look nice. But Lego to me represents my innocent time, a time of good vs evil with good winning and evil being cartoonish. Andor's evil is truly and realistically evil. Maybe I don't want that in Lego form, just like TLG refrains from representing war or a certain political group in German history in too much detail, even as enemies in a fantasy setting. Maybe. I am not sure. Maybe if a nice Andor set comes I will buy it anyway because I like the show. ...which leads back to The Acolyte, as not many people liked the show. A couple of extra notes to this: The Boba Palace set, which by all accounts should have sold well since it had a variety of aliens, a palace remake for the first time in years, and Boba Fett, failed miserably given that they were hard to sell even on clearance. The Kenobi duel, which by all accounts should have sold alright to kids who wanted Kenobi and Vader, plus a cool droid, etc. for a cheap(er) price, sat on shelves with no interest, and was only sold when it hit $25 or less on clearance for people who wanted to stock up to resell Ned-B. The Ghost only got pushed forward a year in retirement (to 2025) because LEGO discounted it and people bought it up to resell during the discount on May 4th (which LEGO interpreted as renewed interest I'm sure). The Ahsoka shuttle sold well when it hit Costco for $60 or less, but it just sits on shelves near me with little to no interest. I literally forgot that the E-WING set exists.. And so do a lot of people I think - it's sold well at $90ish, but I otherwise I haven't seen it do all that great, and a similar case with the Tie/Mando fighter... The Mando N-1 sits at $48 everywhere, and even then, it doesn't sell well due to lack of interest. The TCWS7 sets did well, yes, but part of the lack of availability was the release time during 2020 with the pandemic, so I don't think we can go off those numbers for interest (though I'm sure they would have done well anyway). All that to say (and this is certainly region-specific), I don't think the show sets as a whole have been good sellers - at bare minimum at MSRP... I don't really blame LEGO for stopping doing as many, and for using the few that do release (like Peredia, Onyx, etc.) to pack in all the important characters to make sure they sell. Quote
