I apologize. She sure will, and then you two can eat all the cereal you want while listening to the imperial news networks before she leaves for work.

Hate to break it to you guys. But the Night trooper BP is fake news. Someone, most likely JediBricks, made a post posing as BrickTap.

Your anger and lust for power have already done that.

This is a deeply upsetting tragedy. Especially because since we know a fair number of the june sets now, it's possible we just don't have a BP coming. (Unless prices leaked and I missed that?)

And cereal.

I like that this is just certified @THELEGOBATMAN  lore now. You should add "Dedra's Husband " to your signature.

I wouldn't put them on the same level at all, Syril hasn't ever witnessed the actions that the Empire is truly capable of and willing to perform, whereas Dedra is actively participating in them.

Exactly. Syril, with the information/indoctrination he's living in, has mainly just been doing his job and trying to stop someone he thinks is a murderer (I mean, I guess Andor really is a murderer, and killing the second guy was pretty dark even with him being corrupt, but you get the point). Dedra's going around torturing people and knows full well what the empire is. (Look I'm not judging what THELEGOBATMAN's into ok?)

Agreed, but they also need a pilot, no? Unless Andor is flying a U-Wing himself in S2.

He allegedly is, but he also pilots one in Rogue One, so it's not much of a stretch anyway.

Wouldn't the fact that they aren't using it prove that it is no longer relevant?

Lego named the Khetanna “Jabba’s Sail Barge” on the plaque and the box and the product page, but none of these mean the name “Khetanna” isn’t relevant or canon. It simply means it’s less marketable. Although even these seem to be random in Lego’s case. Most people would identify the Slave I as the Slave I, but I’d wager far fewer would know that Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer in A New Hope is called “Devastator”, which they opted to call it on the plaque.

I think you are way, wayyy over-estimating the number of people who know the name of any of these

Perhaps, but Lego has shown that they’re not afraid to name ships by their lesser-known (sometimes downright niche) names. Even I didn’t recognize what the Devastator referred to at first, but I’m glad it got its name. Or the…Delta 7 Aethersprite-Class Light Interceptor. No way in hell am I memorizing that but the nerd in me loves it.

Everyone knows that Boba Fett's ship (and by extension, Jango's) is called the Slave I. Always has been, always will be.

The Maker George Lucas decided it. Nothing anyone else says can alter that. For nearly 20 years, LEGO has referred to the model as Slave I, in contrast, they've always named The Khetanna Jabba's Sail Barge. People are only mentioning this particular change because of LEGO's history with the models. I raise that all of LEGO's set name choices have taken an odd turn, lately, and Slave I's apparent renaming is just an effect of that.

The only thing of true controversy would be if the little black plaque somehow neglects to refer to Jango's ship by its proper designation. As in, class: Firespray-31, name: Slave I

In other news, glad to see Plo Koon finally gets his remake, Night Troopers I couldn't care less about, U-Wing sounds nice. I still haven't bought a UCS set (cries in A-Wing and RGS), so I'm not gonna say much about Slave I except that it should've been system scale.

Nope, the always been, always will part is wrong, as Disney ordered Lego (source : the designer of Boba Fett's starship set) to stop using the old name. The "true controversy" might very well happen then, because they've got no other choice.

I think he means that all the true fans of Star Wars know the name of the ship, and no amount of retconning Disney tries to do matters because it is the canon and legends name of the ship. Frankly I think the whole name debate is ridiculous because I've never seen anyone get offended at it, and if you are then I don't even know what to say...

Perhaps, but Lego has shown they are very unwilling to p*** off their partner Disney by using a name that it doesn't want them to use. Even I didn't know this fact until a few days ago so...

No one is disputing that. We’re just not pleased with the disregard for long-extant canon for the sake of corporate correctness.

What's really funny to me is that there's a really solid chance Andor S2 does feature scenes in which Syril and Dedra are acting all lovey-dovey with eachother while... preforming their jobs, which would be a really dark dichotomy and also in-character with Andor's interest in showing that all these people are, well, people. They can be monstrous in many ways but still have human capacity for love.

why does it bother y'all what the ship's name is?

Because it’s the result of corporate suits shadowing the work of creatives who came up with the original name and story behind the name. And the fact that people have known the ship by a particular name for almost two generations. It’s not unlike when people (some would say reasonably) had heart attacks when George Lucas, the most rightful heir of all things Star Wars, went back and modified the original films in the special editions, wiping things out in the process like the original voice actor for Boba Fett. Except now it’s not the creator and brain trust of Star Wars doing it, it’s marketers who likely were in diapers when the Slave I was first named in 1980.

Hyperbole doesn't make your argument better, for your information. Disney owns the license, they set the rules, they are going for a different direction than Lucas' original stories, if you don't like it, consume some other products.

Can we just move on? We're beating a dead tauntan here...

You asked for an explanation why people are upset, I gave you an explanation, and instead of accepting that people have different opinions than you, you simply (condescendingly) invalidated those opinions. Yes, let’s move on, this is going nowhere. And don’t tell people how to spend their money.

I'm not, I'm just saying that a fictional thing's name CAN and DOES change sometimes, it's not carved in stone.

Really resisting the urge to make a smart remark, he was talking about me.

Market it however, in universe, (and in our hearts) it's still the Slave I. Will that name be used for toys? Idk, Idc, it's just letters on a box. Besides, was Anakin a slave or an indentured laborer? Can't change that. Are the Zygeerians slavers or people transporters? It's the Slave I because the slave won, whether Disney wants it to be so or not doesn't matter. They didn't create Star Wars, and they don't control the fanbase. If you want to ignore decades of lore, so be it, but others are allowed to remain loyal to the source material.

Shocking as it may seem, I'm still gonna like Star Wars regardless of what Disney wants to do, because I don't care about what Disney wants. They make shows, we make our own stories/stick with the classics. Mouse be damned.

Also, it's a ridiculous point to argue that somehow renaming the Slave I (which, btw, they haven't actually done) is them "moving in a different direction".

That's why I love the villains in this series. They aren't portrayed as cartoonishly evil caricatures, but rather regular people with jobs.

The work they do is horrible, because they work for the Empire—but from their perspective they are just doing their duties. Obviously Dedra is much more aware of the grander scheme of things than Syril, but the point is the same—they want to be efficient, to work well and advance in ranks.

That's why at some point you really root for both of them—Syril is actually doing a good thing, even if you try to look at it more objectively instead of from his perspective. He's trying to catch a murderer when no else seems to care about it, preferring to conveniently cover it up.

Dedra, on the other hand, tries to rise through the Empire's ranks, but she's constantly brought down by her incompetent colleagues, constantly trying to ridicule her. When she succeeds through hard work, you're satisfied—until the next episodes fully hit you with the realisation of who she actually works for.

I love this quote regarding Dedra:

(And I also love Dedra.)

Well put. This is also why characters such as Thrawn, Rae Sloane, Gilad Pellaeon, Karyn Faro and Eli Vanto work so well. You end up liking them despite being imperial scum and keep rooting for them because of their individual likeable personalities until you fully realise what they serve.

Also, I get both arguments for Slave One. But at the end of the day does the name really matter? The ship’s build is the main thing to be fixated on. Honestly if they used the ship type (fire spray gun ship) it should be acceptable.

Merrily torturing innocent people with the death wails of an alien species that are so horrible they turn the victims practically insane is pretty cartoonishly evil in my book  That is one of the most messed up things in the entire canon.

The Empire is evil in all of SW, but they really turned the dial up to 11 in that show. If they do that, the least they can do is to then kill the villains in satisfying ways, and so far they haven‘t done that. At all. Like that ***** that gleefully had Salman hanged and kicked B2EMO, and yet got no comeuppance. These are the people Cassian should shoot in the face :laugh_hard: I hope S2 delivers.

The context in which it's used isn't cartoonishly evil tho—it's horrific, and feels frighteningly real.

I mean, horrible tortures exist in our canon too. I doubt any of those villains would be considered cartoonish. Like @THELEGOBATMAN said, context is everything. The electrified walls of the prison are an effective tactic. (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to), both in creating tension for the characters, and for the audience.

EDIT: I totally read that as walls, not wails. Either way, psychological torture is a very real thing, and has been utilized throughout history. So, it's not a stretch for a galactic empire to use such techniques on its captives.

I'm going to set my foot down on this one. The talk about the Slave I name debate has gone too far and it's going to be hard for anyone to be able to respond objectively at this point. Everyone is allowed to share their point of view on this forum. But the exchange needs to be civil. I'm going to make a few pointers, and then we need to give this topic a rest for a few days everyone needs to cool off.

The onus is on you, because there's no reason why it can/can't be changed, so if it can go either way, why do y'all insist on it being kept?

This is 1) circular reasoning and 2) unnecessarily combative. Please seek to keep exchanges polite and reasonable.

On 9/28/2024 at 3:37 AM, Horation said:

Anyhoo, that was the original name, full stop, but it's no longer the case, full stop. The onus ISN'T ON ME to prove why it deserves a change, it has already been changed, you can either accept it or be sore about it, either way, the new name doesn't care.

You are welcome to be okay with Disney/Lego making changes to ship names. @Flawless Cowboy is also allowed to not like the change. But to say "the new name doesn't care" is to try to redirect the original complaint. Those who don't like Disney's name suppression are upset at Disney and hopeful Disney does care what their consumers think.

21 hours ago, Horation said:

...so in other words, any new content IS marketing, whether you want it to be or not.And why is it that if they had intended it as marketing material they'd have used the original name? Wouldn't the fact that they aren't using it prove that it is no longer relevant?

I'm having a hard time following this logic. Marketing is one thing. Content is another. They connect and relate but they are not the same thing. And Disney not using a name doesn't make it irrelevant. Them not using a name can be a relevant factor in understanding why there is a change at all. But a thing itself cannot be it's own proof.

I bring these up to help you understand how to better dialogue and debate online. As I stated at the start, you and everyone else is allowed to share their opinion on the topic here. But it will help you if you can share your opinion in a clear and logical manner.

That's what I don't get, why does it bother y'all what the ship's name is? From all I care it can stay the same, change, or something in between (Boba Fett's starship slav 1).

Fiction means it's not based on reality. But that doesn't mean it's fluid mess of constantly changing details. Words have meaning. Names have meaning. Sure, Disney is allowed to change a name as Star Wars is now their property. But the name didn't just change spontaneously. There is a reason Disney is purposefully choosing to ignore the name Slave I. You can be fine with that or you can dislike it. But it's an intentional action and people are allowed to be bothered by it.

It's the logic behind why Disney is meddling with names that matters.
