As it is written.

Honestly I kind of want to revisit the concept for a brickfilm one of these days. The basic concept was interesting (essentially, Ben Skywalker was told he could have Mara back, but he'd have to kill somebody else to pay for it - decent moral dilemma imo) but the execution was basically just an excuse for me to show off all of the book characters I knew.

This was in the period where Disney had announced the sequels but not yet decanonised anything, and I was genuinely convinced that minifigures of Mara, Jaina, Kyle Katarn, etc. were just a few years away

What would you even want from a new cloud city? I don't think they'd be able to pull off a "shell" to give it an exterior.

Also this.  The 2018 version is great.  The minifigures hold up completely fine, there aren't any major characters that are omitted (the only Cloud City specific characters not included would be Willrow Hood, the E-Chu-Ta droid, and various Ugnaughts, but none of those are particularly important characters), and the model covers everything from those scenes in the movie (plus a little more, honestly).  It doesn't look as "complete" as something like the Cantina, but I'm completely okay with them sacrificing an outer shell in exchange for all of the interior detail, whereas the Cantina's shape and simpler form was much more conducive to a dollhouse style model.

If they ever do re-release a Cloud City, I'm not sure how much they could really top the MBS version.

Honestly I actively do NOT want them to make another UCS/MBS Cloud City for a while. Make a couple of small sets like the carbon freezing chamber so I can finally get Lando without needing to sell both of my kidneys. Yeah we had the Snowspeeder in 2019 but that retired way too fast for me to find it at a good price, especially since I already had 3 previous (and near-identical) snowspeeder sets. Why they didn't just chuck Lando into the 2016 freezing chamber set is a mystery to me; even if it would've made the set cost an extra £5 I would've gladly paid that.

Also I'm not really a fan of the shape of the 2018 Cloud City, or the 2008/2016 Death Stars. Just causes everything to be at awkward angles and for the rooms to be a lot smaller than they would be if they were done as individual sets.

Mmm yeah I've been meaning to have a go at a brickfilm myself for the past few years (done some short ones but nothing incredible). Got the basics of a script for one set in the Pentastar alignment, and even built some ships and locations for it but not taken a single photo lol.

I remember when they first announced the Disney purchase back in 2012. I was 10 years old and the only thing on my mind was "oh cool I'll finally see Mara Jade and Thrawn on the big screen"... then the Great Purge happened.

I've actually not completed anything for about ten years now! My personal standards get in the way and I discontinue projects before they're done, whereas when I was younger I'd churn out any old rubbish

Finally have a proper set up though (I used to film on my bedroom carpet) so I can do a couple of tests. I've been wanting to have a crack at building only the foreground irl and keying in Stud.io renders of the larger set - so I don't need to physically build 50,000-piece monstrosities for the sake of two hours' filming!

It can be surprisingly hard to get hold of main characters sometimes, especially if your Dark Ages coincided with the times Lego made the main characters readily available. Distinctly remember a period where it was impossible to get any of the main OT characters in anything but their Hoth/Jabba's Palace outfits, and C-3PO straight up wasn't available for a few years. Never thought I'd be so excited for a Landspeeder as when the 2010 set came out. Years later, I still don't have Han Solo in his standard outfit.

Unless you're hanging out with a lot of teens/children in a job or situation where you frequently interact with kids/teens, such as a teacher, this is also very true of your opinion on the sequels. Even though many who grew up with the sequels are around social media using age, think about what happens when someone posts that they liked the sequel movies here, on a more "civilized" forum, and then think about what a 14 year old would get for posting that on instagram when the legions of clone bros find the post.

Edit: That didn't come out right.

Yeah you are completely right, when I saw my first prequel movie I was 6 so some of the kids that adored these movies may be like 11 and we just won't know the full general consensus till another 10 years go by.

Yuck! No! It was terrible, it was a giant, ugly kid’s set marketed at an adult collector price. There’s a reason it retired in under a year. Cloud City deserves a remake.

Never had a dark age, but I remember it being very difficult to get Vader when I was first starting out in 2008 (I was 6 years old so had no idea about Bricklink or eBay back then). Used the Shadow Stormtrooper from the battle pack as him for a while, then added the Vader helmet from Palpatine's shuttle when I got that set for my birthday a couple of years later. Finally got a proper Vader from the watch set with him in.

And yeah I also got the 2010 Landspeeder. A bunch of main characters in a cheap set (or at least cheap enough that my grandparents would get it for me for my birthday)? Yes please. Until then I'd been using some random technic parts for R2 (in particular part 32530 for his legs).

Anyway that's enough reminiscing lol; now it's time for me to get back to complaining about the lack of guards in the Sail Barge. Still can't get over the fact that the Mos Eisley Cantina has twice as many figures for £100 less.

How exactly would you fix it? A UCS cloud city exterior with not much of interior? Drastically reducing the size so it's not "giant", and therefore probably knocking it out of the MBS range?

Take the original 2003 Cloud City set, make it a bit deeper, and then just go to town with the details. Basically the Indiana jones temple of the golden idol set, which was really three dioramas lined up horizontally, on steroids. It would have a smaller footprint than the 2018 model and solve the “how do I display this?” dilemma. Cloud City 2018 tried to imitate the Death Star playset, but half that model’s charm was the outer shell resembling the Death Star itself. It just ended up looking like a bunch of discombobulated mini-builds rubbing up against each other in jarring ways, creating a ton of wasted space too (the Han/Leia room bordering the dining room is especially atrocious). Speaking of, I’ve seen 6+ City sets with more luxurious dining rooms.

Honestly I just don't think it's a good pick for a MBS or UCS set. Make it a few separate smaller sets, like the Carbon Freezing Chamber and the Bespin Duel.

Trying to do everything in a single set just means they all end up getting done badly, especially when they're crammed into an awkward circular shape. Same goes for the Death Star sets.

I think a Cloud City diorama like the Indy set would bode well as well as pay homage to the 2003 version as it was done in a very similar style. The fact that Lando, a main character of the most popular and represented trilogy, in his most iconic outfit has reached $200+ on the after market is a colossal failure by Lego.

Cloud City, as proven by the 2018 rendition, is a hard adaption at MBS/UCS size and scale.

I'm still confused, Can someone clarify if the Night Trooper Battle Pack rumor is true, false or unconfirmed ?

As much as I hate to say it, this has to go in the „false“ category. I still hope we‘re getting one next summer, but the chances ain‘t looking too good :sceptic:

Only reason I want the rumor to be false is because I want the actual set to have a Zombie Death Trooper in it as well as 3 different type Night Troopers, I don't think Enoch would be done well in a 20$ set but I could be wrong

And that is why there shouldn’t be night trooper BP, the community would be split in a civil war between those who say that it should include Enoch and those who should include a double death trooper. Rather a patrol gunship with Enoch, 3 Night Troopers and a double death trooper would be more suitable imo.

I’ve said from the start if they didn’t do the troopers in an initial follow up wave they’ll save them for a bp or patrol gunship set for when they do filonis Thrawn film or an Ahsoka S2 whichever comes first.

I'm really surprised the Sail Barge is already sold out in Europe as well as the GWP Lightsaber. I did not buy the set and don't plan to. Too expensive for not enough. But apparently plenty others decided it was worth it.

Same. Nowhere near enough figures, the figures which are present have some pretty big issues, and even if it had more figures it'd still cost a good 100 more than it should.

A few months ago I was probably the most excited about it being a UCS set out of anyone but now it just feels like they really fumbled the opportunity to make it truly great.

I mean I am pretty disappointed with the set, but also a minifig scale Khetanna is the set I’ve been dreaming of ever since I got into Lego Star Wars. While some minifigs are disappointing and it’s definitely overpriced, it’s still a better/larger build than I’d be able to part out on bricklink for the same price.

Absolutely understand why the issues would be a dealbreaker for people who aren’t as rabid for Jabba’s Palace related stuff as I am. Although it seems like there’s a decent chunk of rich Lego Star Wars fans who will buy all of the big UCS sets regardless of quality or price.

Imagine a complete Cloud City model with a roof, cut in two halves. Then take only one half and that will be the final LEGO model. From the front it will be UCS like display piece, from the back you will see the interiors (side by side/below each other) and it will be more like MBS.

I feel like if you want Cloud City to interact with minifigures in any way, it’s not going to be a display piece on the outside. Mainly because it is impossible for it to be structurally sound with the spike at the bottom at anything but very small scale. A flat disk without the spike at the bottom would look nothing like cloud city’s exterior, and also be a huge waste of pieces for a play set.

Bought the Sail Barge day 1 as I wanted the lightsaber GWP and didn't want to pay a fortune for it on the secondary market. NZ & Aus Lego certified stores had double VIP points on the Sail Barge and the 40658 Falcon holiday diorama as a second GWP so it worked out to be a slightly better deal than buying from lego.com

And it's made from good new brown plastic, so you don't have to worry about the dreaded pre-2019 brittle brown like if you bought bricklink parts.

The issue for me is that I am absolutely rabid for anything related Jabba's Palace, hence why I want all the individual guards to be made.
