I definitely remember seeing the sets on shelves for quite a while after the movie released, but that went for TLJ too, and obviously that's purely anecdotal. Plus I'd assume they probably produce more sets for movies than regular waves, so maybe that was part of why I was seeing them for so long? Wouldn't say this is necessarily true. The last Palpatine that they put in a Dark Side book ended up releasing almost exactly the same in later sets. However, it does put any future Exegol set in question for sure. Quote

Of course anecdotally there was seemingly a lot of overstock with merch for the Disney films (I saw so many Jyn Erso figures in local stores for like 6 years after that film came out, they might be used as currency after an apocalypse) but that likely wouldn't be nearly as dire if they were produced in normal quantities. I wonder how the 2020 TRoS sets sold, that was after the pre-release hype died and sequel sets pretty much fizzled out from there. I do think it's interesting to think about. I think there's always gonna be a stark division between pre and post Disney star wars and the Disney+ content mill makes so much product in a year that sets for all of those shows probably takes the slots where sequel sets would be. Or idk, maybe they're just waiting until the movies start again for cross promotion as the Rey film will probably just use sequel locations, characters and vehicles. Quote

Anecdotally speaking, I remember seeing sets like the Resistance A-Wing and TIE Dorito still in stock on Amazon US well after their respective retirements. I sorta regret not getting them, but it’s not a hard loss for me. Honestly, none of the sets from TROS appeal to me much, besides Kylo’s shuttle or the aforementioned sets I skipped. I think poor sales could be attributed just as much to weak set choice as apathy for the film itself. TROS Palps is an ugly, beautiful sight to behold. Definitely going to pick up this book sometime in the future. That said, like the rest of y’all, I mourn the loss of an Exegol playset, something that would’ve peeked my interest just as much as this Palps figure by itself. Jango Fett Mech vs Obi-wan anyone? It's kind of interesting to see lego's thought process here- in 2023 they bumped the mechs from $10 to $15 without really making them contain more stuff. The extra minifig in the miles set and now all upcoming mechs is assumably meant to give that price bump an associated value bump (I would guess the 2023 mechs didn't sell as well as their 2020-2022 counterparts). The reason I bring this up is the star wars mechs are already a bit more expensive than the superhero ones- $17 if I'm remembering right. I think whether or not we get an extra minifigure is going to depend on how well the mechs sold- pretty terribly around me, though I am guilty of buying the stormtrooper one in 2023 just to see what was up with them. Also, I've hated on the star wars mechs for a long time, but if we start getting ones like the X-wing mech with two minifigures, I'd be completely down for it. (Of course, I'd vastly prefer just getting small system sets again, but lego's done nothing but gimmicks for this price point for over a decade. Even though Marvel has those excellent $10 sets with two figs, it seems star wars won't be getting any.) Edited October 25, 2024 by Mandalorianknight Quote

Well Kylo's Shuttle and The Falcon would have done the most well, TFA Sets must have sold well, back then there was still hype for the Sequels before TLJ came out, First Order had potential and the Snoke theories were cool to read and speculate, good times 2015, IMO the Takodana set,Kylo's Shuttle,Falcon, X-Wings and First Order TIE Fighter were probably the ones that sold the best from TFA TFA 1st Wave was very strong, after that all the sets were mid at best, I remember seeing the Jakku set around 3 years after it retired Edited October 26, 2024 by Lego Nostalgia Quote

I think a real factor in how these sets sold was probably how big they made a lot of them, why make that TLJ Pod set 30 quid, across the board the key issue with this trilogies merch seemed to be that they thought they could get away with making so many products that were so overpriced and they'd do well for the 5 years this trilogy was being made but the nostalgia hit that carried TFA didn't last long enough Quote

Instead of just doing Rebels vs. Empire again, the Sequels should have made the good guys the New Republic (rather than the ragtag Resistance) and the First Order a neo-Imperial insurgent group that grows in power over the course of the trilogy (similar to the Separatists in that respect). The FO are clearly intended to be Empire fanboys, but they are too well-equipped from the start to feel realistic (especially since Palpatine only shows up and provides resources in EP.9 - Having him be a presence throughout the trilogy (as many suspected he was after TFA, given the holographic ‘strings’ on Snoke!), even if only known to the audience, would have helped soften his “somehow” return). Additionally, I am even OK with Starkiller Base and the destruction of Hosnian Prime (as I can buy that the FO finished a secret Imperial project on Ilum), but this should have been moved to the second movie in the trilogy, in order to act as the turning point in which the First Order becomes a full-on threat to the NR. For EP.9, I would have liked to see some planets (perhaps ones that suffered the least under Imperial control?) have defected to the First Order and the Galaxy descend into a “World War” of sorts between the equally-powerful New Republic and First Order. The heroes can still get a win by taking out Palpatine and Exegol (thereby preventing him and the FO from gaining absolute control), but the First Order should not have been defeated; a better ending would have the NR and FO in a stalemate after Palpatine’s final defeat, which leads into a “Galactic Cold War” era for the next trilogy. All fair points, it's very funny in those films they spend the whole third film fighting the secret 3rd Empire and have the second empire we've been following for the previous 2 films beaten off screen. I would rather this trilogy had ended definitively than the cold war thing but tbf as we can see now there was no world where the saga ended there so I suppose it'd be more honest for it to end as you suggest and not even pretend disney will stop making these movies (or trying to , these films never come out) Quote

Flawless Cowboy Posted October 26, 2024 Posted October 26, 2024 What I think most theories (and the sequels) miss is the crux of Star Wars, which is, first and foremost, a coming of age story. George’s vision had the prequels mirror the original trilogy as an example of what NOT to do, or how good men, or good people, are driven to do vile things. And most importantly, the theme that pervades at the end is love and redemption. All of these nuances on the larger universe, Cold War this, galactic stale mate that, trade negotiations, are merely a backdrop to the core of Star Wars. I think the first question a director would ask when charting a new Star Wars film or trilogy, is “what is the point of the story?” I think one of the reasons the sequels fell so flat for so many people is that it didn’t teach us anything new that George hadn’t already shown. There’s no new archetype to explore. Quote

Palpatine, Old Ben, a pretty solid chunk of jedi- it's often used just to represent robes when that's not really accurate. I don't think it's all that much of an issue- for a lot of characters you can just remove the cape if you don't like it- but it is a weird inaccuracy. I wonder if lego's inching away from fabric capes will start getting us more stuff like skirt piece palpatine. 16 minutes ago, BrickBob Studpants said: Agreed. I wonder if lego's inching away from fabric capes will start getting us more stuff like skirt piece palpatine. I personally like the cloth capes - It's probably because they've been around since the start of Lego Star Wars, but they add a very "Lego" feel to the minifigures for me, even if it's not screen accurate. Heck, there's often times I'll give a cape to a minifigure who didn't have one before, just because I like the way it looks! I also don't think that they will completely replace cloth capes. The skirt piece does work well for some characters, but it wouldn't made sense to give them to, say Darth Vader or Superman. I also don't think Lego will go full rubber cape either - the rubber ones don't have printing (besides a small Batman logo on the front of one), only have on color (and lots of characters have two different colors in their capes), and, thus far, they mostly come in one main shape (so no fancy scalloped ends like the Vampire Knight, a weathered look like the upcoming Wolfpack Beast Master, or fancy designs like Lady of Pain). And I have similar feelings about the rubber capes as I do Lego Friends - they're fine for what they are, but they feel somewhat "kiddy" to me, and I'm not personally interested in them, but I also won't begrudge anyone who does like them. I do think that they have a role to play, and I'm okay with their current level of inclusion - but I also don't want them usurp the cloth ones, or even become more common than they are. Quote
