THELEGOBATMAN Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I don't care about the ARC-170. It's a fine 50€ set though... or rather, would be—if it wasn't 70€. Quote

And really, I am generally just curious, because I don't see it, but I am not so familiar with Marvel myself. Hmm... Well, now that I think of it from the perspective that if they release a similar thing with Star Wars like light bluish gray or white text over a black background, well... Yeah, maybe I get it after all. It just looks tacky. Someone on Reddit described it perfectly the kind of set that you will see on a podcast and that it. The figures aren’t great they aren’t a selling point for a set like that but they have the feature of them popping out so they could have made them a bit more exclusive. I wonder about the mental state of a person who would buy it and the SW one. The ARC170 looks good I’m not hating with this but I’ve never watched clone wars so to me the pilots look all the same but I’ll probably wait for may the 4th to get them depending on the promo Quote

You can express your dislike, but there's no need to bash someone who wants to buy it. Quote

This is kinda like if they gave AT-ST drivers black legs with a grey print on the front). Agreed. Looks better than it could've looked like if they had black boots though. This ARC-170 looks very small compared to the previous versions, and it also looks nice. Funny that the box's background is the "Execute order 66" scene - obviously a tie-in for Plo Koon's microfighter, huh? Edited December 2, 2024 by Max_Lego Quote
ARC2149Nova Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 The clone pilots look nice...I also called R4-P44...It's kinda sleek... I really don't like this build. The 2005/2010 models had a certain...gravitas. This is just kinda ok. Maybe it'll grow on me like the 2020 X-Wing/TIE Fighter. Quote

I call my wife deluded for liking Hawaiian Pizza and she calls me worse things for liking Lego. honestly though I just don’t like these logo sets maybe they should have their own subtheme rather than wasting slots in SW theme which could go to a different set which could appeal to more audiences. But like you say Smyths or somewhere will probably reduce it soon enough, though TBH it's not at the top of my list especially as sets that start overpriced and are reduced to being somewhat reasonable are obviously less value for money than sets that start somewhat reasonable and are reduced to surprisingly decent. Willsy Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 The nose of the ARC-170 looks really off, but the rest of the build is pretty good and the minifigs are great. Interested to see the wing mechanism, seems like the actuator moves sideways going by the box art pics? Which could potentially look a bit off Quote

But in all seriousness I like the way the ARC-170 looks. Maybe the engines could've been bigger but I like the use of the ice skate. Am I right in thinking Oddball and Jag never flew together, at least in this ship? I'm not complaining if so as it's nice to get both figs at once, just curious. That’s what I mean I’ve never watched it to me they are all the same I know the commanders always stood out but pilots are all the same why do different prints if the changes in the 3 aren’t like so substantial. Lego could have easily just put 3 plain pilots in instead of two named ones and I dont think it would have made a difference. I still want the set just not at rrp but more of a 20%-30% sale on Amazon come Easter/summer time kind of want Quote

It does mean it was a weird choice to make the box art Cato Neimoidia instead of Coruscant, not that it really matters though. Quote
Darth_Bane13 Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I dislike how we're finally getting these highly desired, fan favorite Clone Wars sets but they are worse than their predecessor's. Coruscant Guard Gunship, 2022 fighter tank, and now the new ARC-170 are all massive downgrades. They're downscaled and the proportions are all wrong, not to mention overpriced. At least the AT-TE was an improvement. Quote

At least the AT-TE was an improvement. Yeah even if they have to downsize them (sure, inflation is a thing but LEGO is overcharging at a much faster rate) they could still keep the details right. The fighter tank is actually larger than the previous version from 2017 but the details and proportions are so much worse. The Coruscant Gunship could've also still been good even at the smaller size (of course, a larger one would have been better and more within "minifigure scale") but they messed up details like the bay doors not opening properly. The only thing wrong with the recent sets is the inflationary prices Quote

Eh I don't mind the downscale, easier to display however I think the Gunship needs to be at the 2013 scale to carry troops, I hope we get a normal one soon Worst part about it though is price goes up, size goes down Edited December 2, 2024 by Lego Nostalgia Quote

If anything the CG gunship is the most minifigure scale one we’ve gotten IMO. At least it is as far as the troop bay is concerned. Edited December 2, 2024 by CloneCommando99 Quote

Just seen more pics of the Arc170 and it does remind me of one thing I don’t like about the downsizing is all the pilots are essentially lying down to fit in the smaller cockpits it does look silly. Apart from that it’s all good. The CG gunship was the first one I bought and I don’t see myself getting a replacement for a while Edited December 2, 2024 by Llewop Quote

I could forgive the CG Gunship if the figs (mainly fox) weren't so bad. Quote

The most important considerations for a prospective buyer, usually the parents, are 1. is it a good toy? and 2. am I getting ripped off? The downscaled versions of many post-2020 vehicles has resulted in sets that are way less feature-packed than their predecessors while carrying a higher price tag. Is the 2013 gunship oversized? Potentially. Would a nine year old who just wants to stuff his ship with a ton of clones care? Absolutely not. Quote

I agree, but I think it's moreso about the fact that aside from the helmet the figures are literally identical. It's not lego's fault, that's how pilots are, but it'd be like if they did a $70 X-wing with all the characters being background rebel pilots with the same face. I think for $70 the price is not terrible, but if they'd included a desirable figure it would have gone a long way towards making that feel worth it. You throw in, like, Dooku and Plo or something and I'd buy it day one instead of my current plan to wait for a discount and/or see how much my MOC would cost to make physically. Quote

I agree in regards to the Gunship, but I'd argue the new ARC-170 is much more fun as a toy than the previous versions. Each one has three major play features, swooshing, shooting, and s-foils, and the new one is (potentially) the best in all three. Significantly sturdier (looking) build, although it doesn't take much to beat 7259. Spring loaded shooters > flick fire missiles > dropping 1x1 cylinders. Pushing a liftarm >>>> 30 seconds of turning a gear Plus keep in mind that 8088's retail price would be $87 in today's money (Bureau of Labor Statistics), 7259 would be $65 Still though, it is very expensive. And I will need to mod it. Quote
