Fair enough. Still, somehow a grand seems extra-excessive. Like, $850 feels like it should be the max. What's next? A $1200 model? $1500? $2000? Where does it stop?

The UCS falcon retailed for $800 in 2017 which adjusted for inflation is now over $1000. But I agree it's crazy expensive, I'd rather have a smaller one for $500.

This isn‘t the full list though! Fingers crossed the rest are all playsets! :classic:

Sure, of course there will be more playsets in the full list, but this trend can no longer be denied. It's clear that all the buildables are taking space previously used for system sets, and by all indication it's only going to get worse.

I imagine the Death Star will either have 30+ minifigs or 2 total

Only 1 proper Andor S2 set is honestly super disappointing, it seems like the best hope for normal minifig-scale stuff is the Mando & Grogu movie, since most of the playsets in the past couple of years have been from the Filoniverse/New Republic Era

Hopefully just two - I would hate to see the BrickLink prices for Minifigs exclusive to a $1,000 set!! 😬

But what exclusive figs would they actually include to make it desirable? No ones going to be jumping at getting an exclusive emperor, Luke or Vader. When they have been all included in recent cheaper sets.

The point of a $1,000 Death Star (II?) is the model, so there may not even be any Minifigs!

Yeah I get that but like people assume there are gonna be minifigs but what’s the point when they aren’t exactly going to be exclusive. The only real iconic scene on DSII is the throne room scene which we’ve just had an over expensive diorama of and 2 system scale sets in the past 5-10 years. The only thing I can see this being if it truly is a 1000 set based on DSII is just a display model

My only hope for this set is if it is a minifig scale Death Star and it’s a reimagining of the one that retired a while back which features scenes from ANH, ROTJ and maybe even Rogue1 and it had 20-30 figures but even then 1000 for a kids toy even aimed at an adult audience is mad. My wife doesn’t mind me collecting Lego because it used to be a lot cheaper than other hobbies but at this rate I think it’s just crazy.

Was it true that SW saved Lego back in the day? I know SW is still one of the most popular themes but if the shift to adult sets keeps going on, and the kind of cheap and accessible sets for kids to be introduced to the theme reduces then I don’t see a viable future for the theme. The Harry Potter theme since its return has already been through the films and started again and does a better job of having a balance of the 18+ but also the basic system sets (kind of like how SW used to be) it also keeps being out newish sets which again is a good lesson for SW as you know SW has even more options for sets than Harry Potter. Harry Potter has their series coming out soon and I can guarantee they’ll do sets off that and still do the films and still maintain a good balance but SW has had a whole wave of new content and instead of cashing in on it they do the opposite.

my point badly put probably is how can other licensed themes do it right and SW not. But like I put in another post earlier they are clearly making money out of these sets otherwise they wouldn’t risk having 6 on the shelves at the same time come summer time. Maybe we all aren’t seeing something that the other AFOLs who buy these buildables are.

Yippee (to quote Anakin Skywalker)

Thank the maker.

Though I’ve now given up all hope for a Endor Bunker and/or Tie Reaper 😅

Yes (and Bionicle)

Yes.

And I agree.

Buildable Rotta the Hutt, Buildable Snowtrooper and Buildable Mando.

The "system scale" sets have shifted to be so small and lacking in detail that it makes you want to pay for an old version rather than wait for a new release that won't be as good.

We will see how the mtt goes ...

A somewhat accurate representation of the Emperor’s arrival. Or, in appreciation of the original scene, it will include one giant sticker as the background and just a few minifigures.

Then, let's see... two buildable figures, a 150€ Battle Droid ship, a 200€ 18+ set, and a 1000€ Death Star. Absolutely awful. Not a single system set in sight, and the prices are insane.

What are you talking about? The MTT is a "system" set. If you don't know what it is, it's the troop carrier from ep1/the clone wars. It's a vehicle playset that comes with minifigs. The news on the Andor set is disappointing but I would cool off on the doom and gloom because we don't know the full list yet. 2025 is already going to be an awesome year for prequel era fans such as myself though. A new ARC-170, Ahsoka's ETA-2, UCS Jango Fett's Slave I, Plo Koon's Jedi Starfighter microfighter, and now a new MTT!

Maybe if you're only an OT era fan I suppose I can see why you'd be disappointed but I'm sure there will be more OT playscale sets too, there always are.

They could include some of the Emperor’s advisors but even then I can’t see them being hugely desirable.

Whoever is buying these buildable figures needs to stop lol. Where have all the SW sets that are a reasonable price for kids gone?

Yeah, whilst we haven’t seen the full list yet it but it does feel like we’re missing that range of good < $50 sets. Looking back (only 5-6 years ago) at some of the sets coming out, you had things like Duel on Naboo, Duel on Mustafar, Yoda’s hut, the Hoth Medical Bay, the Ach To set, the landspeeders from the Solo film, I think you even had a small Mos Eisley Cantina set.

Mark my words, they will not be including any figures of interest in that absolutely crushingly expensive Death Star.

It is clearer now than ever before that the LEGO Group are seriously disregarding classic playsets from their Star Wars waves. As it's been said before on this same topic, the set slots are getting jammed with gimmicky builds that honestly should have died as a concept with the planet sets (open for debate) or been restricted to microfighters only.

The good news is, LEGO (like any big toy company) tends to watch the market carefully, and although they fumble more than they do right, they do take massive customer backlash into consideration. If we could only make it "the cool and trendy thing" of the moment to have classic, system-scale playsets, you can be sure as heck they'll be popping them out like Genghis babies. And on the other hand, if helmet sets, buildable characters and the likes of them receive a negative image (=drops in sales since people live by the image of things nowadays), you'll be finding them in 7 years from now on, in stock rooms, right next to a Jyn Erso buildable figure.

While this would not help the exorbitant prices, which are a problem of their own and perhaps not entirely a LEGO one, it would definitely restore some quality to this previously acclaimed theme, that I'm sure caused many, if not most of us, to completely fall in love with the brand.

New V-Wing? or any set that includes the rumored clone pilot minifig

I dunno. V-Wings are relatively small and were late war craft so shouldn't have P1 pilot. But Lego have done stranger things.

Back in 2008/09 Hasbro made a V-Wing and included Phase I Odd Ball, so there is precedence, but I doubt it.

Interesting developments lately. I knew the first 1000 euros sets would be inevitable, it's just sad to actually see it happen. As for the MTT, fingers crossed it's a TPM one since they are way more iconic (and I don't have one yet).

As for the new 50 bucks set, maybe it's a V19 Torrent? If I recall correctly, they were piloted by clones with yellow helmets.

A thousand dollar Death Star... that had better be one perfect set.
But, then, it'll probably also be huge, so 99% pass for me.

Regards,
Mitch

I do think it'll either be just, laughably overpriced, or fall into the Haslab Unicron issue of being such an unbelievably massive sphere that people just don't have room for it in their houses. The Millenium Falcon can be wall-mounted or sit on/under a coffee table. The AT-AT actually fits fairly well onto shelves, because while tall and long, it's not all that wide, so you can just have it facing sideways on a shelf.

Looking around, none of my rooms really have space for even the $500 death star unless I bought a corner table from IKEA and just sacrificed a significant corner of my living room. Now inflation brings that $500 up to $657 in 8 years (let me go vomit real quick), with lego's own price increases $700 isn't out of the question, but that's still a $300 increase that'd likely go towards some pretty significant size increases. As this is the DS2, which would have large portions unable to have an interior implemented into, the 2005 model may be more accurate. It was $270 in 2005, or about $440 today. Let's say lego puts that at $500. We're at HALF THE COST of the new one. The 2005 model was about 19 inches wide at the equator. Spheres are tricky, but even at the most conservative estimate, where we treat this more like a solid sphere than a hollow one (the new model probably has figures and some level of interior, but I gurantee it won't be anything close to a solid sphere, so this is still a pretty conservative estimate), doubling the volume brings us two 2 feet or 61 centimeters, as a MINIMUM.

Now there's a billion places that math could be wrong, but I really do thing this thing will end up being a two foot diameter sphere at the minimum. I don't know how many people are eager to have one of those sitting in their home, even as massive SW fans.

Thoughts on the new information:

  • MTT is definitely the most interesting part for myself, I might actually get it depending how my budget for Legos shakes out next year. I always wanted one as a kid and getting a new vehicle for the CIS would be great, but we'll see I guess.
  • $1000 Death Star is hilarious. I don't think it'll sell that well, but who knows. At least it will be fun to see it whenever I go to a Lego store for the next five years.
  • The buildable figures stuff is really getting out of hand. I suppose it's not really fair to judge it yet, since there it's totally possible that the rest of the sets we don't know of will be regular playsets, but that seems a little unlikely. I guess the figures must be selling decently well, but it really feels like the theme is losing its identity to me. I'm probably being overdramatic here but idk, I'm just not super optimistic. It feels like we're getting way less minifigure scale sets than we used to, and like a third of everything we get is so overpriced that I'd never even consider buying it.
