UT-AT...

Galactic Marines and Bacara coming?

It's the only logical conclusion from it.

This choice cements the dim future of LSW for me. Buildibles and vehicles (in both the figurative and literal sense) for clone troopers, and not much else.

A UT-AT, as I live and breathe…

Lego, please please please don’t screw this up.

Please don’t just make it a microfighter.

Please include Bacara and the Galactic Marines, and please give them live action / 2014 style printings.

Please mind that there’s an antenna on left side of Bacara’s helmet.

Please mind that the color of Marine’s goggle / visor is green, not black.

Please don’t screw it up.

Please…

I can't complain about the UT-AT. Its giving us something completely new from ROTS and it checks off two long awaited minifigures with Bacara and the Galactic Marines. If this is one of the sets coming with one of the two mystery Jedi its a safe bet we'll be getting a new Ki-Adi-Mundi as well.

I do agree with the sentiment though that the theme is becoming too over saturated with the Clones and not really offering much else. Its why I'm really hoping the MTT is based off the Phantom Menace rather than the Clone Wars. I'd much rather be getting the characters from that film over more random clone commanders.

Posted

If the UT-AT rumour is true that would be a nice little ROTS order 66 nod from LEGO.  Plo Koon microfighter/ARC-170 and Ki Adi Mundi with this.

Hopefully Bacarra and a couple of Marine Clones. This would be a great buy.

I understand the sentiment people are feeling about the oversaturation of clones and I would agree, but I gotta say we didn’t get a large clone wars set this year, and 2025 is the revenge of the sith anniversary, so them celebrating that with a vehicle we’ve never gotten before with characters we’ve never gotten before is what I want to be seeing more of. Last year had a Star Destroyer and multiple other OT sets in addition to the rebuild the Galaxy stuff, and while I (and I think many others here) may think rebuild the Galaxy wasn’t great for the years makeup of sets, I think it’s silly to act like all we’ve gotten for multiple years in a row is clones, even if there is a lot of them.

Landino is legit, but LifeBricks is not; I am going to wait for someone else (LMG, Fateful) to back this up before I get hyped!

Any new Clones that we get will have the current hybrid style - The number of people who would be mad at not getting perfectly 1:1 live-action designs would be far outweighed by those who just want all of their Clones to have the same armour style!

That is definitely getting left off, since there is no way to do it at this scale without risk of breakage (unless they make a new helmet attachment, which would probably look bulky and inaccurate in its own way).

I am personally just wondering how LEGO will achieve their two-colour helmets! If we are getting Galactic Marines, then we are going to get a new Snowtrooper helmet mould, since the existing piece is too difficult to print (and will inevitably have unsightly pink masks); also, the current piece is not compatible with the updated neck bracket, preventing Snowtroopers and Galactic Marines from having backpacks!
I can see the new helmet either being two pieces (helmet piece, mask piece), or a single dual-moulded piece that fits over a neck bracket; either way, the mask section needs to have a more printable surface, so that we can get J:FO/J:S Flametroopers!

I just checked the episodes where the Separatist MTT appears, and one of them is the Bad Batch’s debut in TCW! Could we potentially get Republic Crosshair?! I would like to see a new helmet mould for him with helmet holes (and also Hunter, or at least a reuse of the Imperial Armored Commando helmet), but LEGO would probably just use the standard P2 helmet as they did before (especially since we are getting a lot of new moulds as it is!). 🫤

I wouldn‘t mind a UT-AT, but I’d expect some outcry from certain corners, no matter the result.
Personally, I would like to see some TFA playset(s) in 2025, apart from the rumoured Helmet and Midi Shuttle.

Damn. So that would mean that we’d be getting at least 3 TCW sets in the summer. (Maybe the Clone Pilot set is a V19 Torrent vs Vulture droid?)

Even with the MTT, Lego’s still extremely bad at faction balancing. The MTT is a Troop Transport, not a combat vehicle like the UT AT. We need a ATT or Snail tank to balance out Separatist and Republic forces, and that’s for ground forces alone.

Empire appears to so far be taking a back seat in the vehicle department next year. Need that Tie Defender/ Reaper.

The UT AT is a vehicle with an easily missable 2 seconds of screen time. It logically shouldn’t sell well with normal consumers. But the Clone Bros somehow have tons of cash.

That said, i’m intrigued by the UT AT, more so than the MTT. And am wondering what Legions could be involved. I’m guessing that it’s either 327th or Galactic Marines.

Unless that animated series that’s in development (which might be about Rex and his boys seeing how they left that open in TBBS3) features a UT AT. If so we might get Howzer, Rex, Cody and Echo.

[a lot of good points about the UT-AT, cut to save space]

Assuming the UT-AT is real and it does come with Bacara/Marines:

I agree with all of these points (sidenote: to this day I don't understand why they made the absolutely terrible 2020 armour style for the Clones. I was a certified "clonebro" back in 2019 when everyone was asking for the 501st pack but the new armour style killed any interest I had in that set, both because it's simply inaccurate and because it's not consistent with the realistic Clones I have. I saw someone mention they wouldn't change the style now for the sake of consistency, but that didn't stop them in 2020 and it didn't stop them from changing the Stormtrooper design multiple times over the last few years either). An important thing I'd also add is that they really ought to have the proper accessories, meaning cloth parts and at the very least backpacks for the marines. Unfortunately knowing LEGO they won't :sceptic:

Based on Fives, we should get the shoulder cloth parts but not kamas and Snowtroopers haven't had backpacks since 2017 (I think?). I'd be a lot more excited for this set if we were in 2015 right now.

One silver lining at least is that the Marines don't wear standard Clone armour so the 2020 design shouldn't affect them much aside from the torso's belt and back printing (though ideally the latter would be covered by a backpack anyway). Bacara would be affected, but a really good custom of him is super easy to make using a 2014 plain white Clone body with a CAC cloth part and helmet.

Again, this is all assuming that the set is even real lol

That would be exciting, but I’m not expecting that. I’m boringly guessing it might have Plo Koon in it, considering the unusual original mould in a microfighter. (Also as we saw with the AAT in 2020, the pairings or Jedi/Clones to opposing vehicles isn’t always accurate to anything shown onscreen.)

The UT-AT looks a bit too similar to an AT-TE without legs for me, it’s quite an obscure vehicle to pick for what I’m sure will be a £100+ set, but let’s see what the end result is like.

@QuiggoldsPegLeg I agree about new moulds being introduced for Microfighters only seeming unlikely, but the 2017 U-Wing Microfighter introduced that awesome dual moulded U-Wing Pilot helmet piece which was never seen again.

Hopefully if 2023/4 are any indication, there’s still another 5 or so system sets we can expect?

I’ll hit on all the major rumors in a hopefully not-so-longwinded fashion since I’m pretty late to the rumor party. I’m already failing at my challenge.

Buildable K-2SO - I’m sure it’ll look great, and it’d be one in which I would be interested. However, I’m more concerned about voting against the massive volume of buildables than owning any one of them. Probably means no Darth Malak for me. To quote the other Marvel hero the Human Torch actor plays, “The price of freedom is high, and it’s a price I’m willing to pay.”

Buildable Ewok - I’m imagining buildable Rocket but much worse. Hard pass.

$150 MTT - (Another price increase of $140 range to $150?) I’d be excited if it was the ugly, yet charming, Ep. I version. I have zero feelings toward the CIS paint scheme, but I’m glad for y’all who do.

At least, a Clone Wars set gives us a bigger variety of minifigs (then again, disguised Ep. 1 Jar Jar would be great to have again). I believe we might get a new clone commander or two. I vote P1 Rex and Cody or P2 Bly or Wolffe.

Whoever suggested a Seppie council member is genius: Wat Tembor would be ridiculously amazing if he was included.

UT-AT - An odd favourite GAR vehicle of mine. Looking forward to it. Minifigs are irrelevant to me, but getting different-looking troops will be nice.

$1,000 Death Star - Still back at that eye-watering four digits. We truly live in a society.

No idea how the build will be, obviously, so I can only give thoughts on the premise of a $1,000 DS. I have no interest in the DS as a huge, centerpiece, collector’s model. Would’ve preferred a $200ish set in line with the 2001 model.

It better be outstandingly amazing. I don’t envy the design team on this set; every aspect will be scrutinized, and only because of an aspect the designers have no control over.

I’m sure it’ll be either a halfway-sliced DS with scenes on the backside, so likely not DS II.

I’m more intrigued by the reaction of the community aboard—the leaks, the reveal, the news coverage, the podcasts, the LAN reviews, the reaction to the LAN reviewers getting a free thousand dollar item like people don’t with iPhones, the release day buzz, the Jangbricks review, then the SolidBrix retrospective eight years later. It’s about to be a fun ride.

Still mad we seemingly aren’t getting a Fondor or, to my great dismay, an Ewok Village. I’m taking a flight to Billund to oversee its complete annihila—oh wait, there’s still Blacktron, Soup 2025 and a FF set coming.

Why would you expect them to suddenly revert back to the stylings they used a decade ago?

We're getting two likely $120+ clone wars sets in 2025. The ONLY system sets in january 2025 are clone/clone wars based.

Yup.

Don't get me wrong- it'll be nice to see Galactic Marines, and cool to see an obscure vehicle show up. But when we get so few normal sets a year, it removes the excitement for me, because "big GAR vehicle with a CC and two of his legionnaires" is becoming pretty formulaic.

As Brickwraith had mentioned, an early episode the Separatist MTT was featured in was Liberty on Ryloth. Wat Tambor, a tactical droid, and Cham Syndulla are major players in that episode. Perhaps Tambor would indeed make sense for this one (also as a nod to ROTS anniversary!).

You’re gonna get Lieutenant Ball-scratcher of the 69th legion with two of his men and you’re gonna like it!

The Techno Union would show full support for this inclusion. *turns up music*

Though I am also feeling cloned-out in terms of the dwindling system sets we get, I am pleased that this is a brand new vehicle.

Yeah, but Lego Star Wars has always fluctuated in output, 2013 and 2014 were all attack of the clones and revenge of the Sith sets but that didn’t mean that was all Lego would ever make again. If 2025 does end up being clone heavy that doesn’t mean 2026 will be, I think some people are just being too pessimistic when we don’t even have a full set list or know if the UT-AT is even a locked in leak.

Feels like this Death Star is either going to have 35 figures with a full interior, or four to sit on a display stand. No in-between. Hope it’s the former. I can’t imagine a $1000 dust collector without a “gimmick”.

If it is the latter I could see them including the reactor core tunnel - possibly with a micro Falcon, some X wings, a TIE fighter etc. Perhaps a micro throne room and hanger bay as well.

I'll take back everything I said about the UT-AT if it includes P1 clone pilots. That would quite possibly be the funniest move lego could make with a clone set.

I think there's a couple points here:

1. Yeah, of course. Noboby's saying lego will be like this until the end of time. It doesn't mean it's a concerning trend that is getting more and more prominent over the past 5 years.

2. You're missing a central part of the 2013 and 2014 waves- they were back when lego did lines based on specific battles/movies. 2013 was a battle of geonosis wave. 2014 had the Outer Rim Sieges. (And to take 2014 as an example, it also had a focus on the Battle of Hoth and we still got other major sets like Mos Eisley and a Star Destroyer.) The past 5 years have really just been "clones". With all the buildable and lowered number of January sets, we really only have the August wave for big system sets, and to see so many of them relegated to essentially metaphorical vehicles for more clones is unfortunate.

3. 2020-2024 have been fairly clone heavy. I doubt 2026 suddenly reverses the trend, especially when the only system January sets are clone wars/clone based and the majority of the leaked system 2025 sets are as well. (Is... is it all the system sets not based on new content? The only system non-clone/clone wars set I can think of that's leaked is the Andor one)

Honestly 2025 feels almost like a parody of my concerns over the past few years- increasing 18+ sets has now led to what, more 18+ gimmick sets than system sets? With a record number of buildable characters? and the concern over the clones starting to snap up more set slots leading to the point where almost every system set rumored is clone/clone wars based.

I also think it's important to note that I don't dislike clones or the clone wars. I have a TON of clone trooper figures, I have a modded 2013 gunship, I have both the 2022 AT-TE and a MOC AT-TE, and plenty of smaller clone vehicles, both MOCs and official sets. I just don't like that they're becoming so overwhelming in terms of set slot share at the expense of everything else. (Actually, I also have nothing against most of the 18+ gimmicks, at least in concept- I own BD-1, I was close to buying the executor, and I'll probably get Home One once it goes on sale.)

I agree.

What I would WANT is something larger than the 2016 version, where the front half is plated off and the back half is an interior of every major scene, coming with like 50 figues. (1 per $20, that seems fair).

Given the DS2 rumors, I think it'll either just have two figs- Palpatine and Vader or something- and no interior with it's gimmick being "the biggest one", or a small interior for the throne room accessed by removing a panel, with the figure count being Vader, Palps, Luke, and then like 2 royal guards and an advisor/officer or two.

I felt the same way about the last 5 years until I actually looked back at the number of clone sets released in each year. 2024 only had three clone focused sets, (barc speeder, rex microfighter, battle pack), and all were $30 or less. 2023 had six, but 2 were helmets and one was a UCS set. 2022 had 3, etcetera. I just think we need to wait and see what the rest of the wave is, because by my count we've only been getting about 3 clone focused sets each year in that era, and some of the ones I've been counting are also based on new shows like the barc speeder. This theme has always had it's sets that people complain about, it's just changed from Landspeeders and snowspeeders to clone content. I agree with your 2nd post mostly about the film focused years they used to do and wish they'd bring them back, I've just seen this pessimistic cycle a lot since I started frequenting this forum and try to keep perspective on how these trends shift over time.

Note: I was just counting sets focused on clones, not clone wars sets as a whole, since you were talking about their overabundance in sets specifically.

Posted

I think its important to distinguish that the problem I have isn't with the number of Clone Wars or Prequel Trilogy sets we're getting. Its the overabundance of the clones themselves in those sets at the expense of everything else. There's far more to the prequel era than just the Clone Troopers but we've been seeing very little of that in Lego's product.

I'm thankful the summer wave at least seems to be addressing the Separatists and the Jedi which is a step in the right direction.

I think the volume of clone sets is not necessarily bad, but the price bracket they fill.  Looking at sets under $40 there are essentially three options (excluding mechs and brickheadz).  Clones, prequels, mando.  My kids enjoy rebels and OT so I don’t really have a low cost sets that they are interested in for Star Wars.  I think if there were better variety in the under $40 market the complaints wouldn’t be around.

typing this also makes me miss the early years where a $10 set got a build and two figures.
