Yeah, but just to show off. He'll sell the minifigs and stuff in his bricklink store.

I honestly respect this a lot more than the other options (scalping the sealed sets being the worst, followed by buying that many just to have before it's even out). This contributes to the secondhand economy a fair bit by putting the figs on the market, driving the shock trooper BL price down, etc.

Mandr’s latest video sold me on the idea that the visual dictionary figure is a Jedi Bob remake.

I still hope it's young leia so we can get the more interesting figs in the sets, but man would I love a Jedi Bob or Rebel Friend.

Definitely. I can see people being relatively indifferent to the R2 set, but then see it comes with a Malak figure and decide to go for it. Similarly I’m sure the inclusion of Fives will sell more copies of the Tantive IV Boarding then the set itself would perform otherwise. But with young Leia? As much as her role in the Kenobi show was great, I can’t see it being that appealing.

Malak is making me look at that R2 a lot more than I want to...

Fives is securing that boarding set a second copy to do an expansion for.

Young leia is actively a negative for me for whatever set she's in due to the opportunity cost of including almost anyone else. If we don't get Mara, Cal, or Galen because of her, I'm gonna lose it.

How would that be “because of her”? You could just as well blame the Malak figure for Boss Nass not getting made, or Fives for denying us a Saw Gerrera minifig  It’s not like the decision was between her and either of those three (two of which are massively overrated anyway IMO, unless you mean Galen Erso, in which case one there‘s one overrated character :snicker:)

Yes, correct. Malak and Fives- if we don't get Boss Nass and Saw- take slots that could be used for those characters. They take slots from the three I mentioned as well. The difference is they are fan favorite characters with very interesting designs from some of the most fan-loved projects in the saga, whereas young leia is a small child in plainclothes from a mediocre show, one of which the character has countless more interesting designs. Why not Boushh Leia?

And-I assume it's Mara and Galen you're talking about- Mara and Galen are overrated? I wrote PARAGRAPHs on Mara awhile back, but I'll summarize here- Don't even think about her being Luke's wife. Completely take every aspect of what she does in the NJO off the table. And you still have a breakout character with a major role in the Thrawn Trilogy, the novels that brought star wars back into the spotlight. One who appears in countless stories as the emperor's hand, a great example of a way to do a sympathetic villain who's still very much loyal to the emperor in early stories, and who's design still appears today in things like the mobile game SWGOH.

Starkiller is a shining example of what you can do in legends in terms of powerhouses that wouldn't fit in mainline films. The visual of him pulling a star destroyer OUT OF THE SKY is iconic, and unlike many characters that are criticized for being too powerful/learning too quickly, he has the very interesting nerf of being extremely mentally unstable. Sam Witwer's spoken on this before but the detail he put into things like Starkiller not knowing how to meditate, etc, are incredible. They're certianly both more deserving of anniversary figs than Galen, who's an interesting character for what he is but he's just a scientist with a few scenes in one film, not a legends icon like the other two.

I play SWGOH, and honestly that game proves nothing when it comes to being proof a character is still relevant. It has tons of characters in it you would probably think are not at all deserving of popular recognition

it's a fun game, they just add anyone and everyone they can though

like would you say Dr. Aphra from the comics is deserving of an anniversary slot, cause she's in SWGOH

Fair enough. I just never liked her being Luke’s wive and that fans have put Mara on a pedestal and treated her as if she was a beloved classic OT character, despite only appearing in books and comics  She just never really fit in for me, not even in Legends.

And as for Starkiller, I know it’s a videogame, and I had a ton of fun with the first game back in the day (the less said about the sequel the better), but some bits were just ridiculously exaggerated, like the SD scene you mention. Fun, yes, but also stupid  Also, he‘s not too interesting as a minifig. Unless it‘s the helmeted version from the alternative timeline…

Eh, it depends. They added a ton of no-names at launch to fill out the roster, but if a character shows up without a recent product, it means either they really fit with a needed mechanic (Iden and having a home for imperial troopers outside the main squad, for example, or Sana Starros with the leftover CLS reqs), or they're a fairly fan-requested character. If you look at Mara's release, she was part of the Starkiller Journey, who's characters were essentially a greatest hits of legends (Mara, Kyle Katarn, Darth Talon- which I personally don't see but a certain subset of fans love the character-, Dash Rendar, and Galen himself).

So TLDR I should have clarified- presence in the game alone doesn't mean much about the character, but given that she's one of a small number of legends characters in the game and the way she was added, it's certainly evidence of the enduring fan love for the character.

Actually yes I 100% think Aphra would be a good choice for an anniversary slot- a character who's had a lot of play over the past decade or so but is unlikely to fit in any sets anytime soon. Trip and Betee may have been better examples to use for characters in the game who wouldn't be good anniversary slot choices, but again- they're clearly there to fill out the Aphra squad and reqs, which were just characters Aphra knew and then their opportunity to unleash Hondo. (Ironically I'd say Hondo would be another good option here)

Seconded for Aphra. She's probably the most well-known character from the SW comcis, and she'd make an extremely interesting minifig choice - more so than Mara Jade or Galen Marek IMO. (Wait, why don't we just do characters whose names sound similar? Mara, Marek, Maul, Malak, Malichos...)

What is funny (to me) is I assumed in the earlier post Mara was the only good character.  The two video game leads (I played both but only about half) were ok but to me Mara (from the Thrawn trilogy) was the best character of the three listed.  Also I would like a Galen Erso minifig but that is mostly because we are missing a ton of rank insignia for empire characters so that would be one more.  Just funny that I read that completely differently then intended with which character was good.

Her character arc in that trilogy is one of the best in fantasy fiction, absolutely no bones about it, it was incredible. I still get chills with how they managed to conclude her destiny in that trilogy-

Spoiler

she does end up killing a Luke Skywalker, simultaneously stopping the emperor's voice in her head and killing something Luke had no way of stopping without going insane.

It's one of the few projects I wouldn't mind them trying to adapt 1:1, and a big part of that is Mara's character arc being so strong.

Cal's excellent, but if you haven't gotten to Merrin yet (who I don't believe shows up until 3/4 of the way through Fallen Order), I get why you don't see anything special. I loved him from the start, but he's fairly basic until you reach his dynamic with her, which leads into most of his growth in both games and other media.

Galen is the most standard of the three on the surface level, but the effort Sam Witwer puts in the role really elevates it for me. He puts everything he's got into some of those cutscenes, and hearing him talk in behind the scenes stuff about how meticulously he went over how each scene fed starkiller's character (the meditation thing is so cool- the director didn't get why he was meditating so tense, and he explained Vader wouldn't have taught him to meditate, so he'd just be doing how he thought it would work, and being sith-trained, he'd be completely failing at finding inner peace) brings him above "incredibly strong but generic character" in my opinion.

I'll defend Mara and Galen to the end, but while I think they're iconic and better characters than Aphra (Not that Aphra's bad, but Mara and Galen are ones I'd personally consider some of the best characters in all of legends), I won't lie, Aphra may be a more interesting design than TFU1 Galen at least. She'd definitely benefit from duel molding and arm printing, if they'd give that to her, and a new helmet wouldn't be bad either, though she could use the aviator one. Galen is a pretty standard sith styled outfit, and I think he'd really require some excellent facial expressions showing his sheer anguish and power, as well as blast effects, to be seen as "worth it" for some fans.  Mara I'd personally say would be fairly unique and visually interesting from the pink saber and flowing red hair alone, but if they wanted to be more distinct, the hat/goggles and cape she has in some media could add that.

I would take the M name idea. All of them (save maul, though I wouldn't mind rebels maul) are cool characters/designs we either haven't gotten before, or in starkiller's case, the figure we did get is very rare and outdated.

I understand- and I should have specified her being legends in the game is what makes it more of a thing than just any character. Obviously no one's straining for Old Daka or Dathcha (That said, who's to say we haven't already had him?)

It‘s not gonna happen, but what I‘d find amazing is if TLG revealed the anniversary figures one at a time, but in form of a guessing game with shadowy outlines (like @Ashnflash is doing for his Shrek Ideas project). Granted, it likely wouldn‘t work since they‘d all leak beforehand, but it‘s a nice thought at least :snicker:

Well, new Mandalorian movie announced and ahsoka season 2 confirmed. Look forward to hopefully getting the missing ahsoka season 1 characters at the very least when that comes out.

Can’t get excited for new shows and films in relation to Lego. Maybe I have unhealthy and unhelpful perfectionism but I find the Ahsoka sets to be really lacking because of hiding spoilers etc.

I thought the Ahsoka show was boring, but the three Ahsoka sets were all bangers. I hope Ahsoka season 2 gets a similarly small, but focused and high-quality, line of sets.

I thought all three Ahsoka sets were some of the strongest non-D2C sets we've had in the theme recently, and while they did a solid job covering the first half of the series, we could use some representation for the last four episodes. Confirmation that we're getting a Season 2 (which, let's be honest, was already pretty likely) will hopefully give Lego extra incentive to do a few more sets as we wait. Even just the Chimera would be sufficient for me at this point.

The "Mandalorian and Grogu" film news is a very interesting development. Still not sure if I'm fully in love with the idea of turning it into a film but it is certainly a safe move for Star Wars' first movie on the big screen in a while. And as someone disappointed at the direction of the show with BOBF and Season 3, a change in format may not be a bad thing necessarily. (Even though Variety's reporting that Season 4 might also still be happening? Who knows...) As for how this news pertains to Lego, it'll be interesting to see if this change to a film format means that Lego will get a wave of sets out ahead of its release instead of months or even a year later. I also think this means we're going to have to wait even longer for an updated model of the classic TPM N-1 fighter. Assuming that Mando and Grogu are still using this particular ship, I think a new and improved N-1 is very likely to tie-in with this movie to replace that rushed BOBF model.

Incorrect Ahsoka shuttle colour and woefully small, wrong Huyang colour, incorrect Jacen hairpiece, wrong lightsaber colours, double pack that makes no sense (admittedly still a good set but Baylan’s shuttle would have been better).

But, I repeat, my perfectionism at play here.

Is this Mando film instead of a series 4 or are we going to get a series 4 and then a film?

wonder if they’ll go back to doing a film wave and what kind of sets they’ll do.

Again with Ahsoka is this going to be before or after Filonis film?

For Mando, it’s unclear. As of right now, the only source to say anything was Deadline reporting that the fourth season is still in development, but that may be speculation given that Lucasfilm hasn’t said anything. For Ahsoka, I’m assuming that the second season will come before Filoni’s movie, as I personally assume that the movie will serve as a culmination and finale to certain plot points, but again, that’s just me.

Given the popularity of the Mandalorian and the fact that this will be the first Star Wars film in a while, I would think that LEGO would capitalize on this and give it at least the initial six set wave that they’ve done before. This is all speculation, however.

Hiding spoilers was certainly an issue in terms of what figures we got, but the sets and figs we did get are excellent IMO. Lego always goes all out and gives higher budgets to things tying into films, and while I'm sure recent commercial failures of films have hurt that, this is a star wars movie- a MANDALORIAN movie no less. I think this'll be the first time since Fall 2019 that we get a full wave dedicated to a single source- The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Totally agree- I think the Chimera needs to happen, especially with the news of season 2 and that the next mando saga film is Mandalorian and Grogu as opposed to Filoni's Heir to the Empire one- means they'll have enough of a gap where they can put something chimera related out for that film too.

I honestly think a mandalorian and grogu story is one of the best choices for a movie right now (I feel the same way about Mando S3 and hope this is a directional change. Just do a fun standalone about them hunting an imperial warlord).

As for the TPM N-1, I still feel that being yellow instead of silver and having a vulture droid packaged with it should be different enough from Mando's N1 to secure a slot for both within a year or two of eachother.

I blame Lucasfilm for this, although saying that the Ahsoka sets have been a big step up from what we’ve been seeing with film / show tie-in sets that are light on spoilers IMO. Personally the last time I felt sets coinciding with the release of new content were this good was probably Solo in 2018 and Rogue One in 2016. Both films had excellent set representation.

From Ahsoka, if Lego can find a way to get Thrawn, Enoch, a couple of Nighttroopers, Ezra, and maaaybe some of the Nightsisters and an Ashoka the white (with poncho) out there, I’d be so happy, even though it’s a big ask. A flagship summer set of the Chimaera seems like the perfect outlet for this, but the lack of confirmation from leakers is reducing my confidence Lego have anything more planned from this show even though it’s too early to tell.

I feel like we need both. A series 4 I feel like we need a flashback episode to show how Grogu got from clone wars to when Mando rescued him. I think that works better as an episode than a scene in a film. Then I think a film would be a perfect way to end their story.

also I asked about S4 because they said Pedro pascal wouldn’t be in because he doesn’t need to be just the voice.
