AD_Bricks Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 I think it’s quite cool that the first Clones to actually get arm printing were Rex, Fives, and Echo, (and Omega too but whatever) and also that there are now figures of both Fives and Echo! Thought I had while writing this: Fives had better have a specialised face print. I hope we get to see it in leaks at some point soon. Quote
Lordhelmet Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 on a plus note rebel pilots are much better today overall with improved leg and torso printing than they were in the past. Plus we got Garven Dreis last year and have an opportunity with the new x wing to get another pilot. Personally I am hoping for someone new, or a will scotion or wes janson remake. Quote

Bulky as they were, I still miss the 2018 dual-moulded helmets Weird how they were discarded IMMEDIATELY. Oh well Quote

Also, hopefully it’s not too long before we am ARC Trooper version of Echo! But since he never made it to the Ohase 2 ARC Trooper armor, it would require a new helmet mold with the fin 36 minutes ago, BrickBob Studpants said: Bulky as they were, I still miss the 2018 dual-moulded helmets Weird how they were discarded IMMEDIATELY. And since they discarded them, we need another Biggs with a regular helmet for consistency I took the original Biggs helmet and put it on the Biggs with hair minifig. No visor though. (I also took a current Luke pilot torso and legs for Jek Porkin which got me to six red squadron pilots that all look pretty good) I am coming around to the newer helmets. For consistency I prefer the old ones, but the newer ones had really nice printing. Just hoping for one or two new or modernized pilots (with screen time) in the new set. Quote

Yeah they're pretty much perfect. The only improvement they could make would be giving them all dual-molded legs but I'm fine with that being a UCS-only thing. They are a bit lazy with Snowspeeder pilots though- they're supposed to have slightly different suits which was correctly done for the LEGO figures in 2013 but for some reason they went backwards in 2019 and started using regular pilots for all of them; even Luke in the UCS AT-AT is in his X-wing suit rather than his Snowspeeder one. Yes! They did a great job with the snowspeeder pilots in 2014-2017 but they just stopped and started giving them the X-wing pilot torsos and legs. At least we got the proper ones in Assault on Hoth and the UCS Snowspeeder and other sets around that time so we got a fair few of the correct ones before they stopped Edited January 14, 2024 by Balrogofmorgoth Quote
ArrowBricks Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 New picture of Fives looks a lot better. The cloth is still awkward. Hoping there is an exclusive head. Quote

Hopefully we will see more playsets leading to another echobase. Yavin, this years Death Star, etc. I love that line up if they continue with the base idea. Anything to reduce the cost of pilots and imperial officers (Death Star) in bricklink. Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 I can't understand why LEGO stopped using cloth for waists. A lot of minifigures desperately need them. Since they don't do a lot of dual-moulding, having a waist cape printed only on the front will always look absolutely awful. Quote

Nothing remotely close to “absolutely awful” even enters my mind when looking at them Quote

It’s just less than ideal from literally any other angle lol which is the frustrating thing about it to me. I have had issues with some of the cloth ones in the pst though. Discoloration and fraying and things like that. So I’m torn on what I would prefer Quote
Minishark2000 Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 The Malak is great, and I generally like fives. Why these were chosen for anniversary figures? I don't know and I don't care. Quote

I have the Revan poly bag and Malak is a really nice figure as well. And Fives looks great too. I’m really excited to see Cal. Leia I could take or leave but since we probably won’t get anymore Kenobi sets I’ll take it Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Darth Malak looks great and he's not a plushie, so @Mandalorianknight got out of this predicament Now we only need a Skullpoopl 3-free Marvel 2HY set list, and him, me, and @THELEGOBATMAN can ride into the sunset, all having survived our bets unscathed @Puresh still needs to be punished though. Agent Kallus Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 (edited) These anniversary figures clearly have a lot of budget dedicated to them, I wonder if the them got extra budget for them. I mean Fives and Malak both have new printing for legs torso and head ( well helmet for Fives but presumably a new faceprint too) and both have a new part ( admittedly Fives' part is cloth but he does have printed arms). I mean think of just how many new figs we are getting this year so far: Fives, Malak, Nash, Nubs, Mando-Era Pretorian guard, Beskar Armoured Moff Gideon, Koska Reeves, Imperial Beskar trooper, Young Leia, Cal Ketsis, (Chaste and Non-Promiscuous) White Darth Vader, Dark Rey, Dark Chewbacca, Dark Threepio, Blue Gungan, Kelleran Beq, Scruffy Thrawn, Ezra, Ahsoka the White, Enoch, Nightsister Elsabeth, Jedi Bob, Nite-Owl Mandalorian. There's definitely more too and I presume some the repeats will be new figures as well as it has been too long for a reuse. This must be one of biggest years yet( in terms of new figs), and we've still got a September wave. Edited January 14, 2024 by Agent Kallus Quote

Pedilego Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 (edited) Malak looks great. It might even look better with picture pictures and/or in hand. It looks like he has some dark red on red print. Often times it's hard to capture those matching-color-details & it requires that sheen of light to make them pop. (While I'm concerned about the dark colors for the collar/belt printing on the torso, they look fine on the legs so hopefully the printing on both body parts look crisp on the final product.) His fabrics in the game look black but, seeing as how (a) action figure versions set the precedence using brown and (b) it being easy to replace, this isn't a problem. While I could nitpick the lack of a (a) fabric piece, (b) dual molded legs, the latter isn't standard & the former would've required a new piece for the "loin cloth". (I'll probably play around with keeping the hips & changing the legs and/or adding a cloth 'skirt'.) What's most important is that they gave us a new piece for his mechanical jaw. Well done, Lego. Fives, on the other hand, the homage to the monster that ate Cutup on the helmet is no longer recognizable. The only way that can be fixed is using a knock-off. Again, I could nitpick the lack of fabric piece & dual molded legs but c'est la vie. Same goes for the massive ammo pouch; that's the precedence set by Rex so OK. While I prefer the 2014 torsos for movie Clones, these "new" ones are the best match for Clone Wars P2 armor so I do prefer it for Clone Wars characters like Fives here. I do think the lack of printing on the "crotch" part of the legs isn't as striking in this photo as it was the previous leak, so that's an improvement. Ironically, imo arm printing is the one detail that isn't needed. I'd much rather dual molded legs (when applicable) followed by dual molded arms. That in mind: the arm printing on this fig is superb. It really goes a long way in capturing the details/'tools' the ARC Troopers have at their disposal. Lastly, unfortunately, I have a potential gripe: Why is the pauldron flat? Either print onto the 2012 ARC Trooper piece or, if they couldn't figure out how to make printing/multiple colors work, use the Venator Palpatine technique & use multiple pauldrons to get the curvature & multiple colors. They've found solutions in the past; why would they settle for such an unflattering look now? I'm hoping it's not more regression & it's not the final look (e.g. missed neck holes, it sits differently with a neck bracket, the photographer used a CAC cloth, etc.). Fingers crossed for face printing with his "5" tattoo. That alone would mean a purist Fives without flaw could be assembled... of him escaping Kamino... using plain P2 armor lol. EDIT: Perfect! CF Mitch Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Gotta say, Darth Malak looks amazing. Fives too (his head is definitely spot on ) but I'm not really too interested in him Hopefully, but doubtfully, the anniversary figs won't be too expensive on BL, 'cause I have little interest in most of the main sets Regards, Mitch Quote
Kaijumeister Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 (edited) Malak looks perfect, and Fives looks awesome with that face print! Damn. If we can expect some quality prints / new moulds with the anniversary figures, I’m hoping for Cal to look fantastic. Personally hoping for some combination of: - Arm printing - Potentially a new crouched BD-1 mould that can attach to Cal’s back / look over his shoulder, it’s such a cool look but also the least likely thing to materialise. I guess this can already be achieved with the existing BD-1 and some pieces anyway - Bracca scrapper poncho Seems weird to pair Leia with a buildable creature - I really hope there’s more to that rumour as another slot wasted on buildable [thing] just seems like a waste - unless it’s something that comes with minifigures to interact with. Minishark2000 Posted January 14, 2024 Posted January 14, 2024 Hopefully bricklink sellers will be selling the full lineup of anniversary figs in a single store so they'll be easy to acquire. Quote
