Amblyrhynchus Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 I think these sets sound great and I applaud the strange and unexpected choices, but I gotta say that I don't like the choice of anniversary figures at all. None of them make much sense to me. Cal and Fives are fine, but they could so easily just show up in future sets where they belong. Malak is OK but young Leia isn't terribly exciting. There were so many options that would've been more appropriate and less likely to show up otherwise -- TLJ or TROS Leia instead seems obvious to me. Never liked Boss Nass, but even he would've made more sense. Hope there's more to come. Quote

All these random anniversary figures and our boy Saw Gerrera still can’t get a figure what else has he got to do, he’s appeared in more SW media than anyone else at this point. 2 hours ago, TheUnusualBuilder said: As for Jango's Slave I, while there's always hope there's also no specific reason to believe it is or isn't in the pipeline, it's not like LEGO's decision making is ever consistent. If we’ve got the 25th anniversary of TPM this year then AOTC must be coming in a couple of years so we might get a few sets dedicated and that may be the time we get one. If we did I would love It to be at the same scale as the one from the Mandolorian. Quote

Eh, it's $55, and 3 of the 7 figures are unique. It's $11.25 per massable fig, which is a pretty tough ratio. 18 minutes ago, Amblyrhynchus said: I think these sets sound great and I applaud the strange and unexpected choices, but I gotta say that I don't like the choice of anniversary figures at all. Cal, Fives, and Malak are all major fan favorite characters. White/infinities vader might not be as fan-requested as the others, but he's still a very interesting design- the average person didn't read the infinities comic, but the concept of white armored jedi vader is 100% something I think most people would be more interested by than old leia or boss nass. Another thing (and again, we aren't talking about young leia- no clue why they chose here) as that these are all action oriented/bad*ss characters. An elite clone ARC trooper, a sith lord from the old republic, one of the only purge survivors, and light-side vader. An older woman who's only real "action" scene is inexplicably flying through space and a slobbery gungan don't really track with those. Quote

With how much LEGO loves celebrating anniversaries as of late (two last year, two this year), I could honestly see LEGO doing two or three sets for all of them (or at least for SW and AotC, not sure if they'll have stopped avoiding the sequels by then). MaximillianRebo Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 Some numbers to consider: the UCS Death Star was 4016 pieces for a full sphere and Betrayal At Cloud City was 2812 pieces for a hemisphere build. Obviously we aren't getting a full sphere with 1500 something pieces for the new Death Star set, or a hemisphere at the size of Cloud City, but a scaled down hemisphere should be possible at that piece count, depending on what else is included. That is great. Though I too was also hoping for 187th as they're much less likely to be seen again any time soon and are older figures so the longer it gets the less likely we are to see them in the magazine. But that makes the magazine gift a figure three months in a row which is good. It'd be funny if an anniversary figure like Malak showed up in a magazine, unlikely though, but not impossible seeing as we got the Bespin Luke that was only otherwise available in MBS or the American exclusive duel set. I’m surprised it is 3 in a row for the magazine although didn’t we have 3 builds in a row before Christmas? Obviously the magazines are for children but I wonder if they prefer figures or those small builds. it would be the ultimate troll by Lego to out anniversary figures in magazines like that, you know considering they are putting the UCS Rex in a micro fighter this year I’d say it’s not impossible Quote

Yep, we got the TIE Advanced, Joda's Starfighter and the Fighter Tank in a row before Christmas. I expect the Rebel Fleet Trooper coming with the magazine either this year or next year. Quote

Not sure what other figures could come for the rest of the year. Maybe a Morgan figure and probably one of the clones from one of both of last years battlepacks Quote

For whatever reason, when the info on it first came out, it was supposedly an $80 set with 8 figures, but it's since been reported to be about double the size, presumably something along the lines of the Yavin IV set, but an Imperial version. I would guess 10-12 figures is more likely given the updated size. I think you have to assume Vader, a couple of Stormtroopers, and Tarkin are almost sure things, and then probably a DS Trooper or two, maybe a gunner, another officer (Yularen, Motti or Tagge?), a TIE pilot, assuming it comes with a midi-scale TIE, and then a couple of hero characters (my personal hunch is Luke/Han as Stormtroopers, that way they can sort of double up the fig count without actually including more Stormtroopers) and then one of Leia/Chewie/Ben, depending on what rooms are depicted. If it comes with the detention block, I assume Leia, but if it comes with the tractor beam control room or the duel hallway, it would have to be Ben. Quote
Kaijumeister Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 I wonder just how good the June Mando S3 sets are going to be minifigure-wise? Moff Gideon: Expecting a reuse of the Gar Saxon helmet mould and the darktrooper armour piece, but an updated face that better resembles Giancarlo Esposito would be welcome, the 2021 minifigure barely resembled him. Paz Viszla: Personally hoping for a top to bottom revamp but the 2021 minifigure would still work. Praetorian Guards: New helmet moulds I hope? And of course just reusing the existing Praetorian Guard shoulder armour piece. Imperial Supercommandos: New helmet moulds which I think were confirmed last year? Quote

PsychoBuilder Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Honestly, it would be really funny and kind of a neat homage to the original toy line if they did base it off the original Kenner Death Star. I wasn't around when the originals came out, but I have fond memories of getting to play with my dad and uncle's Star Wars sets and figures. I doubt they would though, given likely copyright restrictions. On the other hand, if I remember correctly, didn't the sandspeeder come from a random canceled Kenner set? Also, does anyone know if the 800 piece count has been confirmed to be incorrect? Quote

Also, does anyone know if the 800 piece count has been confirmed to be incorrect? Starting with your latter query, the Death Star has now been confirmed to have 1,555 pieces. As for the former, there shouldn't be any copyright issues with LEGO doing a Kenner-esque Death Star - in any case, even if LEGO took inspiration from the Kenner version I highly doubt it would be close enough to a 1:1 recreation for any issues to arise. Llewop Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Considering the new piece count for the Death Star play set im certain we are going to get a ship (certainly the same scale as the Y wing from Yavin) I reckon it’ll be Vaders Tie, as it’s the only mainstream tie variant we haven’t had in the past few years and as we are also getting a new tie in the same wave wouldn’t make sense to have a normal tie in this. I do hope this is a full on imperial set to balance the full on rebel set from last year. So realistically 12 figures max, 2-3 will be droids, Vader, Tarkin, Tie Pilot, DS gunner, 3 Stormtroopers, an imperial crew and maybe a named/unarmed officer to round it off. If Lego are feeling generous they would do Yularen but I’m not sure. the build is what I’m struggling to imagine. Is it purely internal, is it all on one level or multiple levels. Love the sound of it and I like the Yavin set. We need more of these playsets on locations/bases there is so much potential in them Quote

I get it it’s a good chance to get characters not done but for me 90% of imperial officers are generic white guy in grey uniform which vast majority of casual fans would not know who’s who. I wouldn’t/ couldn’t care to tell them apart at least with Yularen he’s appeared in TCW, rebels and Andor and his white uniform is again unique to add something different to the set Quote
