As much as I'd like a full wave of bad batch, there's too much material releasing. If lego made a full wave for each series that released, that would be the majority of sets each year dedicated to new material, and I can promise you that sales wouldn't be as good as they are for pumping out stuff everyone recognizes. 6 minutes ago, ToaDraco said: Seriously, I can't even get a single, PROPER tBoBF set, let alone one based on the Battle of Mos Espa, and as bad as we all want the Fondor Haulcraft, that's sadly never going to happen either, I feel. We'll be lucky if we get a single set based on the final season of Bad Batch at this point. Yeah, there's not a lot of "cross-media synergy" options for these - and I think that's really important to Lego. It really reduces their risk when it already ties into other moves & shows. Arguably, we already got our Bad Batch Battle Pack. But unfortunately/fortunately (depending how you see it), it came Clone Wars branded. 3 Shiny 1 Shock (almost) perfectly represents the Imperial-era Clones we see in Bad Batch and the droids make it even better for Clone Wars & ROTS. (Whereas a 327th homage to the 2007 BP or a BB Elite Trooper would've taken away from that.) I would buy a Fondor, maybe the BoBF set (depending on the new Rancor vs. the old one), and a lot of that legit BB Battle Pack... I just don't think these options are likely unless those characters/troopers appear in more prominent media. Quote
Agent Kallus Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Really hope we do get something for the Bad Batch, even if it has to be next year. Quote

Not that that would stop Lego from making a tank, if anything it might even make it more likely as a potential TBB set as Lego seems to like (or are given permission) to do fairly unspoilery early in the season sets as tie-ins. I don't think so- (MASSIVE spoiler I don't think the trailer meant to show) Spoiler Crosshair is in the background in his republic armor in a shot or two of that opening, looks like he's fighting alongside the Batch. 1 hour ago, The Stud said: Hide contents Specifically an adaptation (and possible continuation?) of Dark Disciple. Kaijumeister Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 (edited) If anything I can see a set being released next year as a final hurrah for the show. As much as it’s a shame not to get Lego sets this year the sheer volume of content covered in the 2024 sets makes it completely excusable IMO. But yeah, definitely need updated minifigures of the whole crew. Edited January 23, 2024 by Kaijumeister Quote
Minishark2000 Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 I think we'll get one set for the bad batch, keeping in line with 1 set a season like we got previously. To be honest I wonder why the bad batch didn't get more sets, I really loved the show and imo has more consistently great episodes than clone wars, although tbf I was a lot younger when I watched clone wars so maybe I didn't pay attention as much until the later seasons. It seemed like the bad batch was popular enough to get a couple sets each season, atleast. I can understand for the first season, Lego was unsure so they just did the one shuttle and threw in all the characters, but for season 2 and now the final season come on Lego Quote

I would surmise that for those who haven't seen at least some of that show, including the last season, the Bad Batch doesn't hold much appeal. We can kinda see that with all the returning characters. TLG will also have some sales data on how these sets sell as well; granted, the Justifier is not a great set per se, but by all accounts the shuttle wasn't exactly flying off shelves either. Still, I do agree there would've been room for more sets. I can't help thinking a V-wing with a handful of figs would've fit perfectly in the slot taken up by Yoda's Starfighter last year, for instance. Edited January 23, 2024 by TeddytheSpoon Quote

I guess you're right tbh, the only hugely underrated star wars media in recent memory that got a proper wave was rogue one, and that was because it was a movie. Bad batch and andor, I really like em but I guess there just isn't enough demand from the market. Quote

It doesn't help that TLG doesn't seem to be getting the same advanced access to these shows that it used to, which means it can't ride the initial hype wave when these shows do come out, and by the time they can figure out what would make for a good set with decent demand behind it (e.g. the Haulcraft), people's interest has moved onto the next show. Them seems to be the breaks, I guess. Quote

To not have a battle pack or figure pack of some sort with the troop variants is money on the table. I think the Justifier was a poor choice, albeit rational with Cad Bane showing up in TBOBF. Considering this is now the Empire, these figures will certainly also attract OT fans too. Quote

Could have done a V wing chase set for example with 2-3 members for half the price and another random vehicle encounter with the other half of the team and they would have sold more maybe. The ships were always on sale, I picked up the figures off eBay for about a third of rrp. could have subbed at least one of last years battle packs for one that was bad batched themed, but Lego went safe with 501st but they must know they are at a point where any clone bp will sell so why not go for something different like something from TBB Quote

Flawless Cowboy Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Something interesting I read about the development for the 2020 MBS Cantina is that they designed the final model in 5-6 months, and it was based on prelims that date all the way back to 2016, but of course the final product changed a bit. The designer also said he was responsible for the landspeeder that came out in January 2020, which he finished before starting the final build of the cantina. Of course, the cantina is “only” 3100 pieces and not as ambitious as some of these UCS sets but I think it’s fair to say that no one knows what the final product will look like until just a few months before full production and release. I think that is less reflective of how sets are typically developed and more so just that designers have sketch models of prominent Star Wars locations sitting around. Quote

But the idea that they sit on finalized models of the biggest sets for several months before production and release doesn’t seem to be true based on interviews, which is the point of the original comment. Yperio_Bricks Posted January 23, 2024 Posted January 23, 2024 Yep, that's what i often think too. They have a truckload of sketch models, technical solutions, prototypes or unfinished models or maybe even models designers build in their leisure time. They could go back to those models or reactivate any of these if needed and work on the finalization. But like you said, they are not sitting one a pile of ready-for-production models. Quote

If you read the interview, the designer says he made it of his own prerogative right after he started just as a personal thing, and eventually it was decided to adapt that as a set- this is hardly a typical example of the set design process. It's possible a designer has a moc of, say, the TIE interceptor or sail barge lying around, but it's not accurate to say, for instance, development of the 2024 UCS TIE interceptor started in 2012 when designer Bob Legoman made a MOC of the ship. They're pretty clear at the top of that article about the actual design process taking 5-6 months for a set this big. We also know from Prelims that leak far, far before a set's release that they 100% do sit on mostly or completely finalized designs for months before release. Quote

Yperio_Bricks Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 Sorry, my English Have to add to my post and i feel it's hart for me to be precise: What i meant was, that i do not think that they are sitting on a pile of ready-for-production models they could pull anytime for release. For example, even if a such a model would only be 2 or 3 years old, some pieces might not in be in production anymore, so they would have to rework it anyway. Same for new pieces that became available over time. So i don't think there's a pile of such models they could decide to send into production tomorrow. But what i think they do have, are the aformentioned " sketch models, technical solutions (like technic frames for a spaceship), prototypes or unfinished models or maybe even models designers build in their leisure time." However, models that are planned to go into production have to be finished months before release. I would assume around half a year even. But maybe that is just the best case scenario. I imagine they would want to finish a production model early and not work on it until the very last stressful moment. I guess this is the same in every job. So i guess i agree with both of you! Quote

Maybe. I kinda feel like it'll be the UCS Luke's torso, head, and helmet with the y-wing pilot legs from Yavin. Capitalizing on AFOL'S want for good pilot figs by putting the dual-molded legs in mech might help them get some sales (this is another one that baffles me- like yeah, it's luke, but... I dunno. The dark side mechs didn't do well near me, and if the bionicles were any indication, the fully helmeted dark side characters sell better than the light side characters with exposed faces when it comes to this sort of thing. Kit Figsto Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 To the point about the "production time" debate, I feel like the original Razor Crest is probably the best example of how fast they can rush something into production from start to finish. By all accounts, that ship was totally unplanned (my guess is because at that point, LEGO wasn't doing anything for SW TV shows - after the last couple of Rebels sets, we had nothing other than the Mandalorian AT-ST, which was an incredibly safe choice as it was basically a slightly recolored AT-ST with different minifigures). Once the show was a smash hit, it seems like they rushed that set into production, had pre-orders available in like, February or March, and the set came out in August/September of the following year. Part of the reason that it took so long between pre-orders and production may have been since it was a system-scale model that expected large demand, so the quantity that they had to produce was likely higher than a typical D2C set, which I would assume are produced in lower quantities (especially since a typical LEGO store only has like 2-3 on shelves at a time, whereas most system sets have 5-8+ of each).
