The first spaceship MOC I started to build. It is based on the Gold leader model, with the pipeline colours of the Gold 2 model. Yellow markings are sadly absent because of studs.

Here are two views of the cockpit interior - completed with instrument panels and the proton torpedo gunsight:

A view with the build standing on its landing gear. The rear rings are too heavy and need transparent parts for support. Sadly, I didn't come up with a lighter and more accurate solution:

Although it's not one of my best MOC's, but I hope you like it.

Although the redesign was radical, I didn't think it deserves a new topic, so I post it here.

I enraged the ship's hull, making it longer, wider and the small details more accurate (basing it on Gold 5 movie model). I also replaced the vectral rings with much, much better ones - which I am very proud of. Now the model has much better proportions and is almost exactly at 1/32 scale!

The underbelly was also redesigned for better accuracy (though the forward landing gear is, sadly, still inaccurate):

The model still stands well on its landing gear, though the vectral rings still need supports (transparent on picture):

I couldn't tolerate the inaccurate front landing gear leg any longer and redesigned it:

Note that now it retracts backwards, just as on the original, not forwards as before

Interesting take on the building techniques, looks almost pre-1999.

I don't understand. Seriously, such parts didn't exist even in 1999. I know better-looking MOCs of the Y-wing exist, but I didn't know mine is that bad. I think my take on the engines is the problem - I couldn't think of a better solution...

Why, thak you! But, yes, it's not my best-looking ship. My X-wing and TIE defender look much better, for example

Those two ships look extremely good. I'm a beginner to building with lego, which might be why, but I've no idea how you were able to build some things. I'd love to be able to take these ships apart and see how you did it.

Thanks! Sadly, I have no intention of creating and posting instructions for those ships (though I may tro, starting with the TIE Defender). Studying the techniques of more experienced builders is a good way to study - and there are lots of designers that are far more advanced than me out there. Building out of a limited number of physical parts is also very helpful.

I built all of my MOCs without designing a 3D model first or having a strict blueprint in my head - I created them on pure inspiration, starting with the parts of my future build that I imagined in my head, considering the pieces I have or can acquire now. It may not be the most rational way of MOCing, and I didn't build everything I wanted, but it's somehow reliable in some ways

That's impressive. You must own a lot of lego to be able to do that also.

It's complicated. Let's say I have much more parts than those who build digital MOCs, yet much less than those who build very large creations

Didn't want to offend you there. it's the blockiness of the cockpit and the engines, visible studs and the overall color scheme that gave me that impression. I didn't say it as an insult, there was a certain asthetic of Star Wars creations on the internet before Lego made official sets.

I see. Well, it's just the solution I could think of back then. Studs are sometimes impossible to avoid, and the deficit of tiles is often my bane when building MOCs. Nevertheless, my build was utterly imperfect, and I had to redesign it a little. Despite the many problems, I think it's a decent model mow, albeit not the best-looking.

Very nice, I love your old school touch on it

Why, thank you, but the problem is... I honestly didn't intend my model to be 'oldschool', just a decent, not super awesome, yet faithful recreation of the spacecraft. Maybe it was unintentional...

What I meant is that in star wars, the Y Wing look terriblys "old school" compares to many other fighters. And more : most builders tend to adapt the builds with more and more "modern" part as new wedge and new curved/wedged slopes. That makes the Y Wing more and more modern and cool, but far away from Star Wars original design. That's the meaning of the "old school". Your Y Wing is very decent and very accurate !

I totally agree with Prof. Thaum. You nailed the look of the fighter very well. Especially the cockpit hood is often recreated too 'streamlined' in series or moc sets. You took a good look at the quite pragmatic, robust design of the Y-Wing that it has, in contrast to the X-Wing. The engines are solved well, without relying on dome shaped fronts. Good work with these angles!

@Sentinel_Brix, I find your criticism valid. Thanks for the appreciation! There is one part that I don't quite agree, though:

I don't think it's 'too streamlined' on other MOCs - the cockpit was quite streamlined on the original, I recreated it with wedge plates only because it was the best solution with the resources I had

If you mean positive criticism, yes. I did not criticize anything on your build, only praised it

And i did not mean the whole front, but really the cockpit hood (the window parts) only. You have built it very well according to the original. The hood is definitely not super streamlined on the original. The Y-Wing is like a humvee. Not streamlined, not looking 'fast' but robust.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant :classic:

Ahh, you meant the cockpit canopy? Then yes, I totally agree with you, I dare saying that the old canopy piece doesn't really fit the Y-wing

The head(?) shape is better than anything TLG have produced for a Ywing, pretty spot on!

The colour scheme reminds of the behind the scenes process with the models and concept art.

Well, thank you, but tbh it's not that hard to best official Lego sets...
