I cannot confirm this for my build of 42163: I replaced by (using https://brickset.com/parts/design-6562) on one side: One track piece less is needed then. By qualitative rating I found that the setup using the red gear has less resistance when pushing the model or moving the track by hand. It also appears to be less 'jerky'.

In today's economy, we shouldn't have expected $10.99 would produce much and it didn't. Most expensive parts here are box and instructions, unavoidable but actually an environmental shame. Besides that they missed a chance for a budget xmas present. Who needs this in March? Edited December 3, 20231 yr by JaBaCaDaBra

That's exactly my point, by needing 1 more link, it means the clutch gear pushes the links out of the teeth. My point was for driving these chains by a motor, if you use a clutch gear as idler wheel it will make an awfull noise from teeth jumping. I can know this, as I had no other way than use it in my chain conveyors in my big warehouse. It works, but it "clicks".

Since we are not talking about a motorized set it's safe to say it works just as good, if not better, with the clutch gears for manually pushing the tracks around. You are right about gear contact pattern and it should not be used under heavy load.
December 8, 20231 yr Model titles are getting more confusing. What exactly is heavy-duty on this small cute set.

Easily recognizable by the missing hook at the rear end! You don't need this for parcel moving right? If wonder why you've never seen one, that's bcause they are only used within the sorting facilities! December 22, 20231 yr Well done to @kbalage! Much deserved. Also, as highlighted in his video - presenting the first alternate build for 42163, courtesy of @mic8per! It's not an official B-model, but it's something, at least. Â Edited December 23, 20231 yr by Maaboo the Witch

December 23, 20231 yr And here is what I cam up with today. A nice little snowmobile with working steering and rocker arm rear suspension (hopefully pivoting properly). Also adjustable tilt of the windscreen by the 8t gear and adjustable seat height :)) Left over pieces: only 1x 9L axle (plus 17 chain pieces, but those make for some nice baggage roll).

Very good alt. One of the reasons TLG stopped releasing B models is better afols alternative creations than official models. I also had some time today to build something for this set and here are the results:

December 25, 20231 yr Thanks @R0Sch for sharing the io-model. It's indeed a simple set, also no reason to buy it because there aren't any new parts introduced and I've the parts at hand (with the most exclusive parts being the yellow liftarm 2x3 Quarter Ellipse). Nice set for Rebrickable indeed, and the alternatives are created before I could read this thread :). Will build the set, but doesn't come close to the 42133-1 - Telehandler.

Similar universal sets adapted to the current reality are on my wishlist (along with the return of technic minifigures and remastered 8480) from TLG, but that probaly will never take place. 3 hours ago, GerritvdG said: It's indeed a simple set, also no reason to buy it because there aren't any new parts introduced and I've the parts at hand (with the most exclusive parts being the yellow liftarm 2x3 Quarter Ellipse). Agree with you, this set is one of the two large disappointments of the coming year for me (especially after this year's great mini sets 42147 and 42148). It seems very budget with limited functions (there isn't even a simple ripper). As a parts package it also doesn't look very good but most of the rest sets are much better imho.
