I think it's odd that your comprehension of weapons is limited from a pike to a gun. What about Ty Lee's chi-blocking? I imagine after joining the Kyoshi Warriors they would've learned and passed down the technique, it is very efficient against benders. There is also spears, cannons, swords, armies, battleships, air fleets etcetera. In the Avatarverse due to bending some technologies like aircraft are made much sooner than things like guns. There seems to be a focus on mechanics, albeit more simple ones that must be done on a large scale, as opposed to firearms which would be hard to accomplish with firebending. Not to mention that anti-benders might not strictly be wanting to taker over from benders.

That said, giving it some thought firearms could work. They would need to be very simple and steampunky and rare but it could happen. I like the idea that the non-benders are revolting because the spirituality and preference of bending over tech fulfills the sort of purpose the Catholic Church did hundreds of years ago; good intentions, but stopped advancement and better living conditions.

Batbrick Away!

Yeah, I'm sure that not everybody can learn how to chi block. I'm sure Ty Lee was taught as a young child, and is not even a master yet.

Actually, I don't see it as Star Wars at all. The Antibenders aren't in power yet.

And the antibenders would be outmatched without Guns. Try killing a bender with a pike. Impossible!

And near the end of seaon 3, we see that the fire nation has less-than primitive cannons.

No, but they could be later on, creating a new empire for the the Avatar to fight. But I guess that wont happen.

Yeah, but on the other hand, as it has been mentioned before, guns would give them too much of an advantage. A highly trained bender might be quick enough to melt a bullet, derail it, or freeze it in the air before it get him/her, or simply make a protective shield or armor out of hard rocks. But that would start becoming ridiculous.

Comic-Con has revealed some interesting details: SNIP

I gotta say, every single piece of info I hear about this project makes me love it more and more and more.

I agree. Even though this is a miniseries, they seem to put as much care into this as ATLA.

Well, at least the info I posted reveals that there won't be a single filler episode, making it the equivalent of the first season pretty much, possibly better since most regard it as weaker to the awesome seasons 2 and 3.

Yes, a mixture of season 2 & 3 minus filler episodes sounds great! But it's still too bad since they did an excellent job even with filler episodes.

Isn't that more of a hand-to-hand combat move? Either way, you're right, I can definitely see that knowledge being passed down and used in a fight against benders.

Yeah, I'm sure that not everybody can learn how to chi block. I'm sure Ty Lee was taught as a young child, and is not even a master yet.

Why not? It's just a matter of hitting a body at the right spots. And I don't know what qualifies as a chi-blocking master (if there even is such a thing), but she seemed pretty good at it, good enough to teach that art to others. But I know what you mean. It would be kinda lame if any non-bender could simply turn any bender into a noodle.

This series seems like it's going to be quite interesting. It's going to be kind of weird since it's going to be all steam punk'd but I'm sure it's going to be great! :cry_happy:

Apologies for this little bit of self-promotion, but I just wanted to show this off. Just a bit of a thought experiment-- and no, I don't think any of these things about the show detract from it, any more than I feel the movie's equivalents detracted from it. It's just looking at the things people gripe about in TLA (acting, plot, pronunciations, and casting) looked at from a slightly... different perspective.

Just saw the movie and I have a brief review along with personal thoughts on the movie.

The acting could have been better, the effects were rather well done, the plot was a bit choppy, I liked the cartoon better when it was around. I still think its worth seeing just to relive the cartoon IRL. With the ending like the one given I'd imagine that they're either going to work on 2 more movies to finish it all (each movie is a book I think) or it will end here because of how poorly most of this movie looked. I went to the theater and it was empty at least.

Just my thoughts. And "Ung" really killed it for me. Its Aang for crying out loud.

Technically, Aang is pronounced Ohng in actual Asian languages.

Ironic that they made the name properly Asian while simultaneously making the characters white.

Don't worry, they'll keep the Asian influence. And what wrong with steampunk, Mr. Cyberpunk?

There's nothing wrong with steampunk but It's just going to be a big change from the original series.

I see what you did. Very clever

And the original series had quite a bit of steam-punk, there shouldn't be that much fuss. And technology rarely progresses much in peace time.

Man, I haven't thought about this show since it ended...

It's nice to see they're doing a spin-off and I like the whole "Asianified NYC" vibe going on in the trailer.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but apparently they're planning to do a total of 26 episodes (source).

That seems like a reasonable amount to me; it's the same amount of episodes that numerous one-shot anime series have (e.g. Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Gurren Lagann).

I was very impressed with all the news at Comic-Con. The characters and settings look like they'll be awesome. And the creatures don't disappoint either! Pity it's still nearly a year before this new series debuts...

Really, though, seeing that the creators are so excited about it is enough to make me excited. I wish there were some teaser site or something with tidbits added regularly to keep that anticipation building. Maybe when the broadcast date gets closer.

I wonder if a LEGO brand might be possible. While the A:TLA line was a real disappointment, TLG has done much better with licenses since then. And the existence of Spongebob sets this year shows that TLG still has a strong working relationship with Nickelodeon. The only thing that would get in the way would be of course that we have no idea how popular TLA:LOK merchandise will be, since it isn't a huge phenomenon like Spongebob Squarepants, a proven product-pusher like Star Wars, or a high-budget, much-hyped film like many of LEGO's Disney licenses.

WOH.

I clicked on the trailer and at first was "URGH, they making a sequel to that stupid movie" :enough:

then I think I wet myself. :look:

Looks great!

Can't wait to jump back into airbender

I hope they come out with more Airbender LEGO - the Firenation heads were awesome.

I'd have to disagree with this; 2 Spongebob sets does not imply a strong working relationship.

In fact, I'd say it heralds the end of the Spongebob line and probably any future lines with Nickelodeon.

Of course, I could be wrong, but it just seems to me that TLG's deal with Nickelodeon has been a bit of a wasted effort.

I wouldn't call it wasted. Two Avatar sets are better than none IMO, and the Spongebob line did give us some useful parts. Of course it would be great if there some sets for Kora, but I too feel like the Nick license is nearing its end, and it looks like TLG will have enough on their hands next year with the Superheroes line. But as Katara would say, we mustn't lose hope!

I can't wait for this. My whole family watches A:TLA together. The girls watch it almost every day, and it's one of the few pieces of kids' entertainment that really never gets old.

Honestly, the trailer does not really spark my fan-love, but I know that the creators of Avatar have much more in mind than throwing out a few flashy images and selling Happy Meals, so I have faith that the series will sparkle when it's finished.

As far as Lego licenses go, I predict there's not a chance in hell we'll get a specific "Legend of Korra" license. It's got a female lead, and TLG just will not go there. The only chance is if they do a general Avatar license combining TLA and LOK, which honestly I would like even more. But not much chance of that either, in my opinion. That ship already sailed. But this is one thing I'd love to be wrong about.

Well, I'd say it's a good sign that there are any Spongebob sets. Many people had assumed after seeing no Nickelodeon licenses last year that LEGO's partnership with Nickelodeon was over. The licenses with Disney (Toy Story, Cars, PotC, PoP, etc.) and Cartoon Network (Ben 10 Alien Force) reinforced this belief. So for a number of people the Spongebob sets came as a surprise.

It's worth considering that there have never been more than three Spongebob sets in any one year. So it's a little unreasonable to assume a two-set wave is a sign of weakness. People believed the theme dead last year when there were zero sets, and the fact that the theme is coming back a year later without any any huge signs of stagnation suggests that TLG and Nickelodeon both still see promise in the theme.

Now, I don't by any means think this means Nickelodeon licenses are a gold mine for TLG. Spongebob Squarepants is the only thing they seem to have had any major success with, partly because the show moves merchandise in general with great success. However, the possibility remains open, and I have high hopes that if a LoK does in fact emerge, it will have the same design quality we have come to expect in recent years (even PoP, based on a moderately unsuccessful movie, had amazing set designs), rather than the somewhat lackluster designs seen in the A:TLA license.

I guess I can just go ahead and say that I’m huge fan of Avatar, it’s not like I’m hiding it with the MOCs I have been posting. It may be on the last page, but I like Aanchir’s little drawing, it’s a nice inversion of the usual reactions.

Sorry about the bumping.
