Samolot Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 (edited) My model for the TC 26 contest. Wondering what to build this time I was looking through old Lego Arctic sets on the internet. I came across the 60194 model and immediately noticed its original chassis with tracks at the front. I thought it might work in Lego City, but I don't think it will work in Technic. But it was worth trying. From the very beginning, I had doubts about whether it would be possible to maintain the rigidity of the system. That's why I started the construction with the front suspension. It turned out that it wasn't as bad as I thought at first. The steering system worked and gave hope that it would also work well in the finished model. Besides, my stock of orange bricks allowed me to build without having to buy anything. The model has a snow bike and for this, I decided to add a loading crane to it, which was not in the original model. In addition, I have seen trailers on skids in other sets from this series. That's why I decided to build a trailer and a story for the model. Some time ago, an exceptionally heavy meteor shower fell on the earth. Most of them fell in the Arctic. That is why scientists from all over the world set off in special vehicles to collect meteorites in huge snowy areas. The model has 4 motors, 2x PFXL for the drive, 1x PFM for turning, and 1xPFM for the crane. The power supply is from the buwizz cube. The body detaches from the carriage using only 6 pins. The steering wheel works when turning. Initially, differentials were installed on the drive wheels, but after testing on snow, I gave up on them. At the rear of the vehicle is a fake V8 engine. The crane on the trailer is operated manually. I hope you enjoyed it. Edited January 8, 2024 by Samolot Quote
Seasider Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 Looks like a great start. not sure how you posted those pictures but I only see part of them on my iPhone and have to click on each individually to see the full image. i was wondering if anyone would take a City set and convert it to Technic and I’m glad someone had taken in that challenge. good luck Quote
Jurss Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Good use of those Aframes. Is that differential really needed in front? Quote
Lixander Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 Great idea! Looks really good and seems really promising on the functional part too. Looking forward to see it finished. Quote
Samolot Posted January 3, 2024 Author Posted January 3, 2024 Another day of work progress. Thank you for the first positive feedback. To answer your questions: I use Sariel thumbnail helper to load images as usual. The problem may be with the dimensions of the phone photo and their vertical positioning. Now I'm going to place them horizontally. Yes, a differential at the front is needed, because the difference in the size of the curve marked by the tracks is very large. Quote

Alex Ilea Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 This looks awesome! I especially like the big A frame used in the outside of the front tracks, well done. Quote

That part has puzzled me as well, nice catch! Only wish that instead of those bunch of large, randomly shaped discontinued parts Lego made some more useful, more generic connectors / beams and kept them at production.. The model is coming together really nicely, it has a rugged look and some promising functions. I like the suspension at the front, curious how that actually performs. Quote
Samolot Posted January 7, 2024 Author Posted January 7, 2024 (edited) It snowed tonight. Just in time to take the video and photos. Edited January 7, 2024 by Samolot Quote
Thirdwigg Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Great job, and perfect timing for the pictures! Quote
JoKo Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Looks nice! The A-frames are spot on, the resemblance with 60194 is stunning but that's also what's annoying me a little bit when the contest is about "Design a non-licensed/non-branded arctic vehicle". Quote
