Its a shame about the long wait but hopefully Lego will take this time to catch up on the remaining characters from the first season. Aside from expanding the team roster I think its also important to release Sinister and Bastion now while they still can.

I don't expect to see much next year beyond a potential Advent Calendar and the Sentinel getting a stand alone release like the Leviathan did. I am hoping Marvel gets a third CMF series as that would really go a long way in helping flesh out the roster of X-Men characters.

I think Sinister is still someone we could get in the future but I do feel that Bastion really only has one chance which is in a potential 2025 set. If not then, that's it for him.

I hope the Advent Calendar is X-Mas themed to the X-Men, a rather obvious choice imo. Especially since the original show also had a Christmas episode. I also think Iceman and Jubilee would make great choices for the advent calendar with his ice powers and her firework powers. Just looking at the cover below, that's basically the X-Men '97 roster so there's plenty of material from the show and comics that can be used for inspiration.

Great, now I really don't want to watch this in the cinema. I haven't seen "Black Widow" so I was only introduced to Yelena in "Hawkeye". If found her very obnoxious and annoying, and the series' constant shilling of her, basically going "Look how cool she is! Isn't she the coolest?" put me off further. Same with Echo. (Hawkeye really got the short end of the stick there. He's the only founding member of the Avengers to never have had a solo movie, and then they used his already-short mini-series to shill not one but THREE characters that weren't him. Some of us actually like the character, you know!)

Also, I've never seen a trailer so full of generic quotes - honestly, there wasn't a single one that made me take notice. (Compare with, say, Star-Lords rant about not killing people in the GotG 3 trailer.) Coupled with all the shots of people striking poses it's like they want to market this as the most generic MCU movie ever, no characterisation or character quirks to see here, just move along please.

I'm not optimistic about the MCU going forward. I guess hardcore comic fans will still find something for them, but most people I know aren't comic fans. They all used to follow the MCU closely until "Endgame", but after that their interest has been limited to the occasional Disney+ show (not all of them!) or movie (again not all of them!). And whenever I tell them a tidbit about an upcoming movie I've learned from a LEGO forum, like "There's a new Captain America movie coming! Yes, I know Captain America's dead, but the Falcon guy from 'Endgame' is now Captain America!" or "There's a red version of the Hulk played by Harrison Ford!" they look at me as if I'd just made that up. Honestly, the only characters not dead and not confirmed to be retired I care about by now are Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and Star-Lord. And I should be surprised if we got any more than a small cameo for any of them in the remaining movies. My experience of course isn't the same as everyone's, but I do think they're losing the casual audiences more and more.

Well said, I didn't hate the Thunderbolts trailer, but I just found it to be a big "meh".  You make a good point with the Star-Lord Vol.3 quote at the end of that Guardians 3 teaser, because it feels like Thunderbolts* is trying so hard to be a GOTG/TSS movie but without the charm and writing of Gunn.

I don't want to sound like a doomer, but I think Thunderbolts would be lucky to make HALF of Guardians 3's Worldwide Box Office.

If you don't like Yelena, I don't recommend Black Widow then. You will not enjoy that movie at all since it's basically Yelena stealing the show.

I agree with you on your larger thoughts about the MCU. Their golden age is over and I don't think any of the future projects have much appeal. There's not any hype for a Captain America who isn't Steve Rogers. Thunderbolts feels like it's full of all the MCU rejects. We don't even have an Avengers team or any idea of who might be an Avenger to interest us in what's coming next. Marvel bringing back Robert Downey Jr. was their "break in case of emergency" scenario. We'll have to see if that works in bringing back general audiences for the next two Avengers films.

The only movies that I can say impressed me after Phase 3 were No Way Home, Guardians 3, and Deadpool and Wolverine.

and The only MCU future movies I can say I'm looking forward to are Fantastic Four (it can't be worse than Fan4stic... right?) and MCU Spidey 4. I am cautiously optimistic about the two Avengers movies since the Russos are directing them but it's obvious desperation/break in case of emergency.

Assuming we get an X-Men themed advent calendar next year, I feel like we will get a bunch of reuses from the X-Mansion with 1-2 characters using a Christmas sweater, but that comic cover is good inspiration.

I feel like a good build in the X-Men Advent calendar would be a Christmas themed wheelchair for Charles. That would be cute.

That's more or less what I expect to happen. Marvel Advent Calendars rarely ever include new characters in them compared to other Lego themes.

I don't mind an X-Men Advent Calendar having recycled figures if it lessens the chances of getting repeats in other potential sets like a Sentinel.

I actually enjoyed Black Widow but I know most people were meh about it. It felt less formulaic to me than the usual MCU movie. No Way Home was a disappointment for me as a big Sam Raimi Spidey fan. No Kirsten Dunst and I felt like Marvel was trying too hard to shoehorn Tobey and Andrew's characters in the MCU style of humor. I'd rather see continuations of the Raimi and ASM series rather than this one-off.

I had high hopes for FF but frankly the female Silver Surfer has me convinced Marvel hasn't learned a single lesson. I'll wait and see what reviews are like. And I'm wondering what Spidey 4 is about since early claims were that it would heavily feature Daredevil and Kingpin but now there are rumors about Venom. I think the Avengers movies will be the best but I'm also not sure they'll be able to live up to Infinity War/Endgame. There's not enough anticipation and it's way too unclear what the direction of the MCU is right now.

Has a Marvel advent calendar ever featured a new character? I was hoping for at least one but you're right that the most variation we'll probably get is Wolverine and Xavier in Christmas sweaters. I wouldn't mind some kitchen builds to replicate Jean and Gambit fighting over who makes Christmas dinner though.

That would be neat.

Another factor is that a new character like Jubilee probably wouldn't even look good with the budget of an advent calendar. She would definitely need a CMF series to be done justice to. Someone like Sunspot would be easier to create in minifig form with his white jacket look so I feel if we did get a new character, it would be someone rather basic to incorporate like him.

Yeah, Marvel hasn’t ever had a new character included in an Advent Calendar, and it would surprise me if they started to do that with an X-Men advent calendar tbh.

Honestly I feel like an X-Men Advent Calendar is such a No Brainer with figures and builds:

Like Have 5-6 minifigures (Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Gambit, Rogue, Charles) with two of them wearing Christmas sweaters.

Have the builds be a mini X-Jet, Mini X-Mansion, a Wind-up Sentinel, a kitchen build like you were saying (maybe throw in a Soda can on the table for a little X2 reference), and so on.

It would surprise me if LEGO skipped out on doing an X-Men Advent Calendar next year.

That's a pity. Angel would have been a good new character to include as well as he fits the Christmas theme.

All of those builds are a great ideas. I think Iceman would be a fitting addition as well since there could be a build featuring an ice sculpture or snowman.

*X-men cover*

RIP nightcrawler, he's being blasted with the god of all ice spikes while Jean, Rogue, and Gambit sip their starbucks.

x-men calander would be cool (haha, ice) but I doubt lego's confident enough to give it an advent calendar already. I know D2Cs are more expensive, but they're also aimed at the nostalgic adult market, whereas the advents are usually more aimed at kids.

Still nothing on Thunderbolts though. What gives?

Ideally the F4 set gives us all four in the Fantasticar and Silver Surfer.

Please let this be real, please let this be real.

If not, then the TVA should’ve pruned this dying timeline already. XP

(That went into a dark direction and shockingly I’m perfectly okay with that.)

I know the F4 set is most likely for the film, but dude, if that was a comic set it'd be an all-timer.

Wild that this is the first F4 set 10+ years into this theme

Funny how our first Doctor Doom was in an Ultimate Spider-Man Cartoon set

Looks like X-Men ‘97 season 2 won’t be coming until 2026, which is disappointing. Hopefully we still get something from Lego next year to fill some of the gaps in the team *cough cough* a brickbuilt sentinel with Jubilee and Nightcrawler *cough cough.*

Hopefully we'll get a few more X-Men '97 sets to tide us over next year, if only to pad out the roster of X-Mansion characters. They might be based on the '97 series now that enough time has passed that spoilers aren't an issue, or just generic comics-accurate X-Men sets featuring beloved characters (cough Wolverine)... just so long as it isn't just another X-Jet! If they wanted to help promote their X-Men sets, Lego could celebrate 25 years since the first X-Men movie with an anniversary set or two, but I'm not holding out hope for that one.

Hoping they might make an X-Mansion expansion set! LOL

Or buildable Master Mold with two Sentinels!

That is concerning, especially since it's a team up movie. But so long as we get John, Yelena, and Ghost, I'll be happy.

Buildable Galactus with a microfig of Julia Garner's Silver Surfer, take it or leave it.

First Doom, first Defenders, first comic character with Nova, that show being able to use wider parts of the marvel lore was a great thing for early lego marvel.

Honestly I have been getting a feeling that we aren't gonna get any Thunderbolts sets at all. I feel like we would've heard something by now if we are now getting news about Spring sets, which apparently includes the F4: First Steps set.

The team only has four members. Is there really much point in spreading them out?

Judging by the set's title I'm beginning to have doubts about us getting a 3 set wave for the film. I'm leaning more towards it being a one-and-done situation like The Marvels was, or if we're lucky an appetizer for the next modular like Gargantos and the X-Jet were.

Honestly, one set or even none at all for "Thunderbolts" seems perfectly fair to me. After getting burned with "Eternals" and "Wakanda Forever", LEGO have clearly taken a cautious approch even for movies with established characters like "Ant-Man 3" and "The Marvels", and it seems like they weren't wrong to do so. "GotG 3" and "Spider-Man 3" are an exception, but both Spidey and the Guardians have a huge following, plus - and that's surely as important for a toy company - their characters and locations are visually appealing. Even kids who don't care about the movies might want to have a Talking Tree minifig, Raccoon in a Spacesuit minifig, or Crazy Electric Guy minifig! And then there's the Statue of Liberty and a bunch of spaceships. Meanwhile the cast of "Thunderbolts" looks a lot duller, consist entirely of B- and C-listers, and is not all that kid-friendly. And the trailer at least doesn't have any interesting locations, either. I guess LEGO could do the desert bike chase, but I say that only because LEGO loves bike chases and not because I think that one's something special. So I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

Also, I'm surprised that everyone here is so excited for the Fantastic Four movie. To me the entire concept just seems ... I don't know ... outdated? Like, of course there's only one female character and of course she has the power of invisibility. It just all seems a little quaint and old-fashioned to me. The fact that Reed Richards showed up in "Dr Strange 2" and was portrayed as basically a dumba*s and a dick doesn't help, either. (Or the fact that in Germany, Die Fantastischen Vier [The Fantastic Four] were a nineties hip-hop group. Although that's not Marvel's fault.) Still, like I've said above, I'm sure LEGO will make sets if the movie's colourful and appealing with at least one cool location and characters that are visually fun. But three sets is a tall order for an entirely unproven concept after "Eternals" and "Wakanda Forever".

Unfortunately, I really doubt we’d get both a comic and a movie Galactus in the same year, and the movie makes more sense.

If the movie does well, maybe we’ll get a 4+ Fantastic Four set.

Per the same source as the Galactus set, the Hulk Monster Truck includes Thanos.

What I am wondering is: Does Lego make sets for Marvel because they themselves think a movie will get people to buy sets, or does Lego make sets for Marvel because of a contractual agreement to produce material for the film.

Whether the film looks great or not, Lego has made sets for every Marvel film since 2014 (exception D&W b/c R-rating), so I wonder if there exists a mandate to produce sets, even if just one with little to no figures.

It's worth noting that even if they're relatively unproven in merchandising lately, they are still a huge property - they're Marvel's First Family, and have historically been one of the highest sellers in terms of comics. There's a reason that even if the attempts haven't been great, there's been four separate iterations of them in film - people keep trying because they're popular!

The comment on them being 'outdated' kinda hits the nail on the head, but for a different reason - to me at least, that's kind of their appeal? They're like Superman, they're representative of a different, really idealistic time, and they allow themselves to be unrestrained heroic sci-fi fun (most of the time)

If you're curious to learn more about them, honestly their current run is a great place to start - if not that, Waid or Hickman's runs on them are fantastic!

It is a shame how Reed was portrayed in MoM, and honestly how Johnny was portrayed in DPaW, but I'd bet money on those being intentionally poor to make the actual MCU F4 look better by contrast

The bit about the Avengers bursting out of the Marvel logo is apparently true, though. The usual place has a breakdown of which rumous of his have been confirmed by other sources so far. The one about Galactus is unconfirmed.
