I’m not trying to convince you a Spiderverse cmf is a good idea (not 100% convinced myself). I just think it’s a shame someone who (presumably) likes superheroes is missing out on a really interesting and incredibly well told superhero story simply because it’s in the format of an animated movie.

It's of course fine if you feel that way. And maybe I'll watch it someday when I have the time (after I've reached the end of my stack). But different people like different things a different amount, and there are simply things I like more than animated movies. On the other hand, I think that "Agatha All Along" was great, a close second to "Loki". I liked "The Marvels". I even thought "Madame Webb" was fairly decent within its limitations and had more interesting female characters, even/especially supporting ones, than most Marvel movies. (Though the ending was terrible and needed more precise foreshadowing and some of the plot holes were at least Marvel-sized.) More people should give that movie a chance if you ask me! But I don't get offended when strangers on a forum don't like those things or don't even plan on watching them, and I definitely wouldn't call them snobs for having different tastes. Swordy Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 (edited) Fascinating to see the explosive, wide range of reactions from this forum. Again, I’m down for a Spider-Verse CMF, but I do wish we could get so many other Marvel characters included as well. Mobius and God of Stories Loki will be hard losses for me should they never see the light of day. Maybe doing it this year wasn’t the right choice. Nevertheless, I’m thrilled that a series of beloved movies of mine are finally getting LEGO’s notice after seven (seven, wow) whole years. I personally am into Marvel for the wide range of heroes and villains, even regardless of how familiar I am with them. My hope for a Spider-Verse CMF is to maximize the amount of characters we have from the Spider-Verse trilogy. Obviously Miles and Gwen will be included, but hopefully the former will be his ItSV look, green jacket or otherwise, while the latter I hope will be in her casual outfit, a look which has at least gained a Funko Pop. On a personal note, I know several of my immediate family would be thrilled to get Hobbie Brown or Pavitr as LEGO Minifigures. I can’t say I’m unhappy about that. Edited November 15, 2024 by Swordy
BoyLego Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 It’s all good, I’m not offended and I’m certainly not trying to cause offence. I think the point I’m just trying to make is that animation isn’t a genre, and someone saying they don’t like animation sort of implies that all animation is more or less the same. I don’t like all animated things just like I don’t like all live action things (anlthough I also thought Agatha was great). A lot of animation is aimed at kids and I can get not being into that, but lots of it isn’t and there is some really beautiful storytelling out there in the world of animation.
RobbieHxC Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 The Spider-Verse CMF rumour sounds interesting and surprising! To be honest, we have already got comic versions of most of the Spider-Man characters from these films, for example Miles, Gwen, Noir, Ham, Scarlet, 2099 - all of which are nearly identical to their film versions. That really only leaves India, Drew, Penny, Punk as new Spider-Man characters. Further, we're getting a set next year with the Spot and Captain Davis. Unless the CMF also features lots of new villains, for example Prowler or Kingpin, I would be dissapointed that it is taking up a whole CMF (a great way to introduce new characters in high-detail) rather than just another set or two to round up the last remaining Spider-Verse characters.
Lion King Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Sorry but Spidey CMF doesn’t sound exciting to me.
kevkipo Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Man this is such a no-brainer. All these colourful expressive characters to choose from, based on these amazing movies. I'm so excited for this, it's sad that we have to wait almost a full year for it! To the people who consider this a loss, I understand you might want a series 3 of live-action Marvel movies, but consider that you've already had 12 years of sets and 2 minifigure series, it's nice to let us fans of Spider-verse have this! :)
thebricksbear Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 On one hand, yea it'll be cool to get a lot of characters we don't get in sets (2099, Jessica Drew, Ham, Noir, etc...) but whoever said the figs are at the risk of being boring is 100% correct IMO. Are they just a bunch of printed minifigs? A hood piece here or there? What other accessories could they have? Hopefully not a bunch of printed tiles like the Muppet CMF. It's a cool idea and I'm happy for yall that have been begging for these. Personally I would've liked these to take the place of some of the Spidey cars and mechs and stuff we get every spring.

I don't think that would be the case... Miles could have his hooded / jacket version. Spider-Punk has a mohawk and a guitar, Pavitr has a headband / hairpiece and a diabolo, Jessica Drew has an afro, Miguel could have arm attachments for his blades, Spider-Noir has a hat and trenchcoat, Spider-Ham probably has a fully molded headpiece, Peni would be a completely different figure altogether. These figures are distinct enough to each be exciting in their own right, just look at the Marvel legends figures.

A lot of us would like some of the variants that weren't in the movies, such as Superior Spider-Man, 60's spider man (who I guess they could TECHNICALLY put in a movie cmf but I doubt they will), Spider-UK, Cosmic spider-man, etc. And like you say, it'd still be able to include the ATSV characters too as Miles, Hobie, Gwen, etc are all in those comics. Look- I'm very excited for the CMF even if it is film based, but I totally get why people want Otto or Kaine or what have you. 12 hours ago, brickbride said: outdated misogynistic fantasies like Slave Leia I'm so tired of this. Honestly, it depends on the characters' visual appeal. The X-Men ones were very popular. And Agatha, for example - many people might not have known who she was but they saw a cool dress and hair and a fun facial expression, plus witches are interesting in general. Regular CMF series often have pretty random characters (like a potter or a knitter or an olympic medalist) but they're visually appealing with cool accessories. And the D&D characters, again, were popular with people who just liked fantasy in general. So if LEGO could find visually appealing Disney+ characters like, say, God Loki or Wiccan (with the crown) I don't think it would be a problem. Okay snob might of been a little harsh, l admit. Hopefully you can see how your original post gave the impression that you see animation as lesser, which would Fe by definition snobbery. But se-lä-vē, I'm a snob myself where Lego is concerned, I know that my distaste of other building block brands is based on my own snobbery rather than any just or fair metric. Nonetheless with the discussion of the snobbishness dropped I still think you're showing a degree of ignorance as to how popular these will likely be. The Spider-verse films were runaway successes and I'm sure every masked fig with come with an alternative un masked head and hair just like the What If Spider-Man or the humanoid headed player character figs from the D&D series. 18 hours ago, brickbride said: But different people like different things a different amount, and there are simply things I like more than animated movies. Borex Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 What is wrong with printed tiles? I love printed tiles! Keep’em coming! Of course they could give them printed tiles as attribute, but there will be other things as well. Not as much as a regular cmf of course. For instance i think Miles Morales will have the bubble coat jacket and something new yorky to hold. I can see them giving two heads like they did for d’n’d as well to have an unmasked version. anyway for those of you that don’t buy offbrand figs, there is already a plethora of spider(wo)men out there and if you cherrypick the best looking outfits, you’ll get a very cool selection for this cmf. Personally i already have a great Tombstone made for myself (thnks to Voldemort), so i hope for comicbased villains already captured by the spidersociety. Especially the wild ones like the Grizzly, Kangaroo, Walrus, Frog-Man, Videoman, Mooseterio, Lady Beetle, Gog, Bigman, Clam for instance.

People seem to have responded well to it (the two posters prior to you, and the one they're quoting both said it was one of the best TV shows Marvel Studios has put out) and it's carrying on a story from one of their other popular shows. The Marvels is a sequel to the character Marvel was trying to push as their premiere female hero. They make some odd choices, sure. And not all of it is great. But if they don't take some risks or make some outside the box choices sometimes then we wouldn't have had things like Guardians of the Galaxy (or, arguably, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Ant-Man and so on). As for Thunderbolts, I was disappointed by the roster initially but that looks like it could be one of the better things they put out next year. And the Avengers didn't start off with their classic roster either so who knows.

They introduced some major new characters, had a really good well-thought out mystery going, didn‘t fall into the trap of turning Agatha into a hero (or even an anti-hero), and DAMN that 7th episode was excellent! The tarot scene alone made sure the series would end up in my top three Marvel shows At first, I was rolling my eyes at the idea of an Agatha show as well, but it really is worth watching! And focussing only on the „popular“ characters is not the best strategy. They have to try out new things, or else it gets stale. And you need to give other characters the chance to become popular in the first place! Iron Man was a B or C-lister before the first movie and the GotG were more like D-listers even. The MCU wouldn‘t exist if they only focussed on the then popular characters! Edited November 16, 2024 by BrickBob Studpants
poisonbricks Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I think the biggest disappointment for me with the Spider-Verse CMF isnt even that it's specifically Spider-Verse, even if I don't care about those movies - it's more that it feels like it's basically a death sentence for any new D+ characters in LEGO Wonder Man, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies, Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, What If..? Season 3 all feel like we can pretty confidently say they won't get full set representation. Spider-Verse already will have had a normal retail set on shelves by the time the CMF comes out. And most likely, there'll be multiple repeats of characters from that set (and maybe other sets throughout the year, if there are any) - we've traded the ONLY chance for some characters to get a bunch of Spider-Man figs that probably would've found their way into sets anyway considering Sony is clearly working with LEGO now
