Mandalorianknight Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Geez guys, I think it's pretty well covered. I don't think every individual member needs to chime in and go "well I think you're wrong, @Lego Nostalgia". Yeah, it's subjective whether or not someone likes a movie. You can't really call an opinion wrong. It's also true that the marvels, by a lot of metrics, really just wasn't that good. You're arguing past eachother, and starting to escalate it from going after opinions to making implications about people's character, which.. c'mon. Don't imply that kind of stuff. If we can actually just move on, I am wondering what Falconfan's old comments mean in regards to deadpool 3. That's 100% not a trailer for a movie ages 6-12 should be watching in any capacity. I wonder if we'll get something just generally TVA related, or some sort of Wolverine set allegedly based on '97 or just general X-men that features his Deadpool and Wolveriene suit.

The set would not be directly based on Deadpool & Wolverine but also it scratches that itch for fans that want a LEGO Deadpool set this year by being an 18+ set like the other helmets were but it's a Deadpool set without Karens freaking out. @BrickBob Studpants I know this is a inside joke on the forum but seriously speaking, IF there was a world where there wasn't anything to worry about Karens and LEGO WAS able to make direct sets on Deadpool & Wolverine (or Anything R Rated in general), would you actually be against or for it? I'd personally love a set and figures but I know a killer astroid hitting Earth tomorrow is more likely than us getting a set and figures for an R rated movie for obvious reasons Edited February 13, 2024 by calebcold3

Scarilian Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 The film was promised as being R-Rated, Disney may water down a version and release it as a 12 but the tone is not suitable for children and would go against Lego's brand values regarding adaptations of material. If they choose to do that then it shows a level of hypocrisy as they'd be adapting Deadpool yet cancelling a Helicopter, Comic Style Explosive Factory, Indiana Jones Temple of Doom, etc... If we do wind up getting sets then the Mad Max knock-off vehicles seem the way to go as they'll likely be the most easy to adapt into Lego sets. Personally the Deadpool 3 trailer completely killed my interest in the film or getting sets from it. I'm completely detatched from it now... I'm fine if we don't get sets for it, can focus on saving for other sets for other legacy films
Mandalorianknight Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 Guys either of you can just end the conversation. No need to have the last word. 9 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: Depends on the movie I’d be in favour of a Deadpool & Wolverine set, but in most cases (like horror franchises) I’m glad TLG doesn’t produce sets for those IPs. I agree in general-I wouldn't want lego to produce stuff for horror movies or the like. But stuff like Deadpool and Daredevil I'm more iffy on. I think deadpool as a character should be availible, though I wouldn't necessarily want branded deadpool 3 sets to be a thing for any reason other than seeing you eat a minifigure. It's funny, I think deadpool is one of those characters that spawns a lot of annoying fans because they think sex references and profanity make him cool and mature (I had a roommate like that and he... did what deadpool did in the trailer when the TVA woke him up. He no longer lives in the suite.) But there is/can be some really interesting stuff done with the character- the fact that he struggles so much with self-loathing leads to some actually pretty touching stories, like the one where he recognizes he's not the right person to help a girl on a ledge but essentially takes her mind off of it with his insane banter until he gets her to people who can. I thought the first two deadpools shined when they explored that part of him, and it looks like this one might be doing that too. And then you've got daredevil, which is widely regarded as the best superhero show of all time. Now, I don't think that "They're good/they have something to say" is why they should be able to show up in stuff, moreso that alongside the deadpool movies, you've got his appearances in cartoons, the lego marvel game, etc. Same with Daredevil. Now it's harder for deadpool because his main costume is pretty similar in the movies and comics, but I think a bright red suit distanced from the movie design could be ok in an 18+ mansion or something. Also, while I'm not sure I'll like how far they end up going, lego is pushing the boundry in that respect. Dune is still PG-13, but it's a very mature story- they don't get quite as explicit with the Baron's particular evil as the book, and we haven't hit much of the more graphic violence yet, but we still had people having their blood drained out for the sardukar's war paint, and it's still got a pretty dreary tone throughout that picks up when... Paul stabs and kills a man. 8 hours ago, RedHoodPug said: Honestly there's a term used at the beginning of the trailer that although I'm sure some 13-15 year olds will know about, I still don't think it's appropriate for them. No, don't get me wrong, I totally agree- I said 6-12 because it's the standard lego set listed age range, not because I think the movie's appropriate for 13 year olds. And that term aside (which honestly the joke probably could have slid into a pg-13 movie as they don't really imply what it means), the trailer drops the F-bomb and TVA agents splatter their blood all over the place.

Lego Nostalgia Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 If they don't make anything based off the movie I guess I can live with it, I have the 2012 Deadpool and Wolverine and they actually look close enough to the movie costumes. 1 minute ago, Mandalorianknight said: I know, but I highly doubt they'd use the only F-bomb in the trailer, and that it'd just be deadpool's reacting to seeing something kill a TVA agent Anyway we're in 2024, most kids know what the F-word is, hell I knew it when I was 7 and I'm near 20 now.

Not to get too off topic, but kids have known most of those words for forever, it's not a 2024 thing (though parents do seem to not care as much that their young children are using that sort of profanity). The question isn't "is deadpool 3 going to introduce kids to these words (which it still would for many kids)" it's "will kids/early teens seeing deadpool 3 associate the hero's constant language and sex references with being "cool" and start using that language more frequently/idolizing that sort of behavior", which.... yes. There's a reason it's rated R. This isn't a "video games cause violence" thing. Go to your local comic shop and there are enough grown men who idolize deadpool for that sort of thing. It's understandable why lego wouldn't want a children's toy promoting a movie of that rating. (Again, I want to clarify I'm not saying something like "deadpool movies shouldn't exist" or "we should legally prohibit parents from letting children see this". But movie ratings are a thing, and most children do not have the ability to understand "while this movie makes the protagonist look cool, he's using terminology that someone my age shouldn't, and making references to behavior someone my age -quick aside here- or, like, in general? Look, free country, but if I met a guy who talked like deadpool in real life, I would not want to interact with that man- shouldn't be doing. I will be a fan of this franchise whilst understanding that deadpool is not meant to be a role model but a deeply flawed character who uses humor to cover his self-hatred") Edited February 13, 2024 by Mandalorianknight

There are myriad reasons why ratings exist, and they are surprisingly justified. One only has to look at pre-code horror comics to understand why Fredric Wertham published his book. Granted the outcome was extreme, but the basis for it was concern. While swearing won't harm a child and those who grow up knowing bad language can be adept at language in general, kids exposed to abusive language show increases in anxiety, depression and trouble in school. The number of studies regarding children being exposed to violence are manifold. I shouldn't have to expand on the consequences of exposing children to anything of a sexual nature outside of a curated setting. I have two kids. My son is ten and has a built-in sense of right and wrong, I respect him for it. My daughter is six and draws a line between the violence of, say Gladiators and that of the Harry Potter films. She also suffers from anxiety and gets nightmares easily. I'm not going to jeopardise the sanctity of their childhood to satisfy a whim. They're kids for a short time and adults for a lot longer, so they can wait until they are ready to watch/play certain media.
