Exactly. TLG have the reputation that all of their products (and by extension, what they‘re based on) are suitable for kids. They wouldn‘t want to tarnish that for this one movie

And as I’ve said before, the 18+ branding wouldn‘t save them since it‘s not equivalent to an R-rating. The Winnie the Pooh and Sesame Street Ideas set have the 18+ branding, so it should be obvious to any customer that it‘s nothing more than a marketing ploy

Lego non vuole andare vicino a Deadpool.

lego has problems with an R-rated movie. If the character was the problem, he wouldn't have been delivered to Cominc Con two years in a row

But also if the character WASN'T a problem, we would've gotten some vague tie-in set with a comic/TAS/whatever Deadpool. They know how much money it would make.

I think SDCC is a bit of a special case because it's so limited and not really promoted to kids. Since the movie released, Deadpool has been gone from standard retail sets, gone from LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2, even outside of LEGO, gone from cartoons targeted at kids.

Movies are the main problem, but the character being basically known only for them is something that is clearly having an impact.

That’s disappointing. I’d rather get a comic based Spot, but oh well. He’ll fit in well enough.

Exabricks has a picture of the booth up on their insta with the X-Men art someone previously mentioned. There’s a display in the back. But given the wording above, I seriously doubt they’ll stick the mansion there. Sounds like we might see something Spider-Man related. Possibly just sets that are already out.

I'm bringing this up next time I hear people saying that we're totally getting lego deadpool.

Loved Deadpool and Wolverine. LFG. Clapped uncontrollably for (not phrased as a spoiler but just in case-)

  Reveal hidden contents

a character putting glasses on

, and I don't clap often unless it's the end of the movie. last time I did was the three spideys moment. But that said, not only do I get why we didn't get sets, I don't think we should. I wouldn't want a kid watching this movie- I mean, they have to drop somewhere in the realm of 100 F-bombs, half of them in the context of parts lego minifigs don't have, and even if the set was marketed as 18+, lego IS a toy brand at the end of the day.

The movies gonna make bank but to me wow the plot and development was all paper thin

i watched it in the cinema

I’m not convinced it would make money. Which is more likely the reason they don’t do it.

I would imagine adult figure collectors are a vocal minority and the vast majority of Legos consumer base will still be children. Most children don’t know who Deadpool is.

Most people seem to be saying Lego won’t touch an R-rated character because they are afraid of backlash but I think it’s more likely they wont do it because an R-rated character won’t be well known by kids and therefore won’t sell well.

Kids know who Deadpool is, especially 12-14 year old boys, which is Lego’s target age group.

How? What media are they consuming with Deadpool in? I understand there will be some who read comics and some who have watched the films but I’m talking about the majority of kids.

Just because their parents don't want them to watch these movies doesn't mean kids won't. For some, that's a further incentive  I'm pretty sure D&W is currently a hot topic among kids, with many discussing how to sneak into a cinema to see it and bragging about it

So you think the majority of 5,6,7,8,9,10 year olds are sneaking into cinemas and watching an R-rated movie. As I said I understand that a few young teens will see the movies. The majority of children will not.

I never said it was a majority. I think only a small minority of kids will actually see it for themselves (at least in theaters)  Doesn't stop the movie from being discussed among kids though, which means a lot of them are at least aware of its existence.

Confirmation of a Spider-verse set is probably the most exciting thing to happen to this theme in years, at least for me. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but I hope that if this one is successful (which is all but guaranteed I'd think), we get more later down the line.

Let’s gooooooooooo. Peak is back on the menu boys.

Now we need a Spider Society battlepack in the summer wave with any of: Scarlet Spider, Spider Punk, Pavitir Parabhakar, (sorry if I misspelled), Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Woman or Spider-man UK. The build should be Peter Parked-car.

In all seriousness tho, I don't think I've ever been more excited for a set. Genuinely. Horizon's Tallneck is the only one I can think of actually.

The Spider-Verses are my favourite movies ever. Can't pick a favourite out of the two, and I don't call them the best movies of all time, but they are my favourites. I think about them daily. I listen to the soundtrack intensely, still.

I've always wanted merchandise from those movies. I don't like Funkos, the Hasbro figures are crap, and there's not really anything else. I bought the AtSV vinyl and the art books for both movies, but they are not something I display as of now. So to have a LEGO set based on it is truly special for me.

Yeah I mean it's not the godfather, but it's not like the MCU tends to be known for incredible plot. (Though I'd take this plot over most of the post-Endgame stuff) I think Wolverine has a nice character arc.

Picking this out of your comment because I think it is a really important distinction that a lot of people don't get.

If I claim that kids have never heard of Family Guy or Rick and Morty, would that help you understand the absurdity of your statement?

That's what makes us different. I am based and I claim to have a monopoly on the truth, so my favourite movie is the best movie of all time. I win, you get portrayed as the soyjack.

Being real, I'd say it's just an okay movie with a barely functional plot. I really enjoyed it for what it is, but that might change if I end up rewatching it down the line.

Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. I already watch plenty of good films very often, so having the movie equivalent of McDonalds once in a while is pretty fun. Especially when we get the coolest character of all time back on screen babyyyyyy!!! (No, I don't mean any of the titular characters)

You'd never guess my ranking of the trilogy.

Truly, people are sometimes so annoying when discussing things like this.

"What's your favourite movie of all time?"

"Oh, I actually really enjoy Dungeons & Dragons: Honor among Thieves."

"Well, that's a pretty cool movie, but there's no way it's better than the critically acclaimed masterpiece The Godfather, and its equally masterfully crafted sequel The Godfather: Part II."

Like, shut the hell up. Let me enjoy things.

“Good is a point of view, Anakin.” - Sidious

Morally bankrupt statement, but a very true statement when it comes to defining constitutes the best film.

To keep things Marvelous, I think the Avengers is the best MCU movie I’ve seen because it showcases the best a movie can do with a multi-movie interconnected universe.

I also think that Winter Soldier is the best solo-superhero movie I’ve ever seen, because of the journey Steve Rogers goes through and how it captures the depth of his integrity.

I also also think Spider-Man 2 is the best solo-Spider-Man film to date, not just showing the great power, nor even the great responsibility too, but why Spider-Man is needed: to be a symbol of the hero in all of us.

I also also also think that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the best Spider-Verse film because it not only showcases the multiverse in a way unlike any other superhero film, but captures each universe and their Spider-Man (Spider-Men and Women? Spider-People?) with rich detail and depth.

Whatever quality a film does exceptionally that speaks to you most and matters to you most is the best film to you. We can only quantify and qualify what we know to be true in our hearts.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

I wish we got another character than Gwen, since I feel like her comic minifig is nearly perfect to use for Spider-Verse—well, except the blue slippers, and we’ll see if they add that detail or not. I would’ve preferred Spider-Punk, but at least we’re finally getting some Spider-Verse minifigs. :D

All 3 minifigs should get side-leg printing (Miles’ bleeding armpit, Spots’ spots, Gwen’s shoes). I doubt we’d get that much detail on each, so let’s allocate that budget to Miles, and given the Spot and Gwen arm printing? I don’t know if I myself agree with what I just said. That said, I’m tired. :P

Nevertheless, LET’S GOOO!!!

There’s a subtle distinction you are missing. When I was a kid I had heard of Freddy Krueger sure, but I hadn’t seen any of the movies and I didn’t have a connection to the character where I would have wanted to ask my parents to buy me a toy based on him. Hypothetically, if Lego had made a Freddy Krueger toy back then, I’m sure there would have been some of the more edge-lordy kids wanting it because they knew it was forbidden, but would it have outperformed the Phantom Menace sets that were coming out at the time? Children want toys based on characters they know and love from watching them on screen. I’m sure lots of kids have heard of Deadpool but they don’t know him well enough to want a toy.

Also just to reiterate, I’m talking about children, not teens.
