Of course that doesn‘t mean there won‘t be one as the list may be incomplete, but it‘s pretty curious nonetheless. Also, there doesn‘t appear to be a D2C set, but I‘d be kinda glad if we got a break next year. We already have the $200 microscale DA and the $250 Hogwarts expansion, so our wallets will surely be thankful for a breather No AC and D2C on the list, what make most sense; we are not getting any next year the list is not complete

Gorilla94 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 It will be interesting to see the big tower... Any Chance it could include Fluffy? Like 3 years, 3 big hogwarts sets, 3 big figs/creatures (Troll, Fluffy Basilisk?)

For what we've seen until now - 2018_2020 and 2021_2023 - in Hogwarts sets LEGO has mainly followed a time progression. Now at the moment, apart from Owlery, we see the same choiche: Boathouse, Hagrid's Hut, Castle, Potions, Flying Lesson, Charms from PS; Dueling Club and probably Herbology from CoS. If LEGO is following this scheme, I see most likely that the Tower will be based on CoS, so the Basilisk, and 2026 winter set on PoA/GoF (so Lupin's Class for example). Not sure, in this case, if the 2026 big set - likely the Viaduct Entrance (plus the Viaduct?) - will be still based on PS, but it could also be. There's even to consider that if, as should be, the Tower will have the Dumbledore's Office - a CoS office would be easily linked to a Chamber of Secrets remake than to a Philosopher Stone challenges section. Considering your idea, I see more likely this year the Basilisk and the next year Fluffy than the contrary.
Chocolate Frog Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 No one’s mentioned the new series yet. If that begins filming in mid-2025 then all the attention will be on the new cast from then on, and especially if the cast is more diverse (or different characters are different ethnicities). How far in advance does Lego work - two years? If that’s the case, then they won’t be designing sets from the movie series now to go on shelves in 2026 while the the new series is airing. And if the lead characters for the series haven’t been cast yet then they won’t be designing sets to tie in with the TV series now. That’s why I feel summer 2025 might be the last wave of the current HP theme, and why there’s no D2C which would be on shelves for too long. If they started on new sets based on the tv series in 2025 then they would be on shelves in 2027, just in time for the second series.

So far, no HBO show has ever had LEGO sets based on it. Plus, the movie merch has been tried and tested, whereas any potential show merch is a wildcard. Given how risk-averse TLG has become, I wouldn‘t be surprised if they stuck with the movies, unless the show (and its merch) is incredibly successful. It‘s just the safer option And I for one won‘t buy sets based on that show, if they ever materialise.

Rowling and her highly controversial opinions which run counter to LEGO values, along with the fact that TV show itself is a hotly debated topic with pretty much anybody. I highly suggest we continue to let that issue lie and not discuss it, lest the Mods get involved! (It's happened before, if I remember correctly) Well, another reason might be that parents are relevant for the final buying decision. I am from the generation old enough to be parents but with childhood memories about the theme. I grew up with the original movies, went to the cinema with a wizard hat as a kid, played the original PC game... In fact my first video game at all... build the first lego Potter Sets under the christmas tree. I could not care less about Rowling, but I am nostalgic about the old movies so I would be willing to spend much more on a potions class room with a design that looks like the one I grew up with. Its the minifigures that present the biggest problem. I expect the show will have similar designs for the castle and most classrooms with minor variations and modifications but not enough to matter for lego sets, but no matter how they cast characters will look different.

In time for LEGO to concluded the new castle skyline as it appears in LEGO instructions, considering we miss at least two big set: Grand Staircase Tower and Quad Entrance (probably in the summer 2025 Main Tower set) and the Viaduct Entrance (at this point summer 2026). As for sets based on the TV show, I think that a lot will depend on WB decision on whether having homogeneous merchandising, more than on LEGO. Edited December 10, 2024 by BrickMatit

I see the characters as a part of that to be honest. If I was a non-Afol parent standing in Front of the Lego boxes and saw the new potions classroom as it is, I'd take it with me asap and watch the movie with my kids before building it. If it was published under the new show's logo, but the set was the same including figures looking like the old actors, I'd do so, too. I have no interest in modern remakes, have no emotional investment and do not intend to watch them at some point...
BrickBob Studpants Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) Unless the series does gangbusters, I don‘t see a single reason for TLG to switch to sets based on the show. The current success of the movie-based sets perfectly proves that nostalgia is a big factor, which the show will have to overcome, and good luck with that John Williams’s score for instance will be impossible to beat, and that’s just one thing among hundreds! Remaking a movie series that is still this popular is an uphill battle Edited December 10, 2024 by BrickBob Studpants

If the theme isn't giving anything new you want, simply don't buy it? Nobody is forcing you. The rest of us, and for successive waves of children who don't have sets from even five years ago, find things to like and buy, and derive enjoyment from the theme's continued existence. For what it's worth, this year alone LEGO has continued to do some new stuff within the theme, so the idea that they've exhausted everything is, to me, a bit ludicrous. I get what you mean I definitely should have reworded. I guess I am not just exhausted by the theme but also feel like they never release anything quite, well perfect. For example, the new Knight Bus is perfect but it really needed the shrunken head. Hagrid's Unexpected Visit was, imo on par if not better than Buckbeaks Surprise or whatever it was called (lol) but the absence of the minister of magic and executioner figures in the newest set make it feel like you need to buy both to get the full experience. Then the new hall is missing the main tower, which I hope is released on its own. it just feels like everything gets remade but always incomplete meaning you still need the older sets for the same experience and it makes for an expensive and redundant collecting experience. I would like to compare this to Star Wars, where lots of the builds get repeated but most of them are meant to be Amy built anyways. It's fine to have multiple AT-AT's or AT-TE's or Republic Gunship because there are entire armies worth of these in the movies. So it's disappointing to see multiple Hagrid's Huts and Hogwarts Tower when there should only be one in universe. and one version of Hagrid's hut has the dog but you need the other version for Buckbeak and the executioner, one great hall provides the chamber of secrets but you need the other to recreate the Ogre scene from Sorcerers Stone, but then that one has no tower... it's like they never just release a definitive version of most sets (besides Dragon Alley and Gringotts which I do think are perfect) it all just leaves me frustrated. In conclusion, I was wrong to say that we should retire the theme, but I don't think its wrong to have wished you didn't have to buy multiples of the same set to get a full picture of the theme. Just wish they released sets that scratched every itch. Like even if on wave has the Ogre, Chamber of Secrets, all the professors and everything you could need, it would still retire in a few years and. new wave of people will appreciate buying it when they missed out, so its not like giving everyone what they want would hurt sales cause as you said there is always someone who missed out and wants it. But spreading thee figures and locations exclusively in expensive sets throughout the course of this themes run just make collecting exhausting and I stand by not being thrilled with how most of this has played out. Oh, and Madam Hooch doesn't seem to have her snake/cat eyes in the upcoming set she's in. It's little things like that and the missing shrunken head that make it seem like nothing ever quite keeps its accuracy or even its value in this theme.

In the past it was always linear progression of the movies, less some outliers. It appears like they’re taking the same approach again. It leads me to think the tower set this summer will probably be CoS themed. If they do something different I’ll be surprised. I know there’s debate around this, but with the addition of the new first flying lesson being from the rear of the castle + the now rumoured green house- I’m wondering if they intend to go more than 3 years with this line, and make parts of the castle such as the Astronomy tower, clock tower, bell towers?

Just wish they released sets that scratched every itch. That's fair and I hear your frustration. That said, taking a step back, it's potentially more an indictment on earlier waves than it is on the last one and continuance of the theme. In 2024-2025 alone, on the Hogwarts side of things, we've gotten all of the major professors/adults (Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall, Flitwick, Hagrid, Hooch, Filch, Quirrel, Lockhart), and lots of students. We've gotten other important creatures like the troll, Fang and Norbert. We should have the Dursleys again next year too. The main thing they seem to not be doing so far is the final tasks at the end of Year 1. I hear your point that no section of the castle feels "complete", and if I was just getting into HP LEGO now, I don't think I'd be able to afford it since this newest system is just too expensive for me. However, taking the Hagrid's Hut sets as an example, it's more the fault of the old one for not including Fang (who is in PoA) than the new one which includes everything for the scene it's based on in PS. So really, as a Harry Potter LEGO purchaser since the very beginning, yeah it's frustrating that the awesome troll is in a $200 set that I don't want generally, or Fang is in a new Hagrid's Hut if you already have/like the old one, but in most cases that's not really the fault of the new sets. Besides the weird exclusion of the shrunken head, they are doing a good job of covering quite a breadth of stuff in this newest iteration, in my opinion.

brickbride Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) 3 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: but noooooo, PS and CoS are the only movies that count Well to be fair, OotP is easily the worst of the books next to DH. There's a limit to how much of Harry's whining, Hermione's crying, and Ron's being a jealous megablocks the average reader is willing to endure. We've slogged through it because we'd already come this far, but PS and CoS are much more accessible on several levels, and much more accessible to a younger audience especially - thus of more interest to what is, after all, still a toy company. The 2007 Hogwarts Castle which is based on OotP came out in 2007 when the movie was newly released - that's a very different thing from making OotP the focus of a large castle set now. Though I do think the "most detailed Hogwarts ever" should have Umbridge somewhere in it. How about an Umbridge's Office to swap with Dumbledore's? Edited December 11, 2024 by brickbride
VinnieCannoli Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) So glad I jumped on the "most detailed castle" train at the moment when he had just started the procession. There was always something holding me back from joining this line in the past (parents didn't buy the big set and then university takes too much time to care), but now that it's in full swing with all these giant sets and additional modular "classes", new versions, it's time to enjoy this franchise in a lego version. If the first year we had an expensive Hogwarts set with the iconic monster of the first film, then it makes sense that the Tower should come with a Basilisk? But the tower itself is incredibly huge (it's supposedly the largest/tallest building in Hogwarts?)... The main question - will there be enough space and (more important) budget for a new Chamber of Secrets and a new "monster mold"? (and then again-the C.o.S. located close to the Great Hall, not the tower...) The new Fluffy and Basilisk are my main interests at this point. They made the new Troll, the new Aragog... it's logical that they will do the doggie and a snek. Edited December 11, 2024 by VinnieCannoli
Jaromir Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 @VinnieCannoli Bear in mind that cave troll was long awaited remake, the same goes for fluffy and basilisk, the last two were also remakes after many years, so I would not say that is logical if they will release them again in form after 3-4 years, even though I would love if they will. I wouldn't count in Aragog since it is brick build, not a special mold. Actually, same goes for Fluffy, the last one had specialised head mold.

None of that is present in the movie though, and even if it was, why would it have any bearing on sets? I just think OotP deserves a proper castle expansion too as it‘s the only film besides DH1 not to have one yet! (And it‘s one of my personal favourites.) Granted, a $250 one may be overkill, but I think it‘s also overkill to have yet another large expansion themed around CoS. I get it, the first two movies are deemed the most magical, which is not untrue, but they‘ve kinda been done to death now
