As much as I want an OotP-themed expansion (which we haven‘t had any in the reboot other than the RoR!), it‘s the most likely scenario An OotP expansion could be really cool with a new Gambledore minifig, Umbridge‘s office, Sirius appearing in the fireplace, or even the twins blowing up Umbridge, but noooooo, PS and CoS are the only movies that count There was a good post on the Reddit community about sets per movie since 2018, but POA has had 9 since then only one less than COS and Goblet of Fire at 7. Its just castle based sets that lack in the later movies, but that isn't Lego's fault but rather the most exciting scenes later in the series happen outside of the castle.

Fair point, but you could still very easily have a castle section dedicated to OotP. Dumbledore‘s and Umbridge’s offices, the RoR, and the DADA classroom play very significant roles in that movie! That said, I wouldn‘t mind the tower being based on PoA either. In that case, they could feature Lupin‘s classroom and we would still get a new Gambledore!

I'm going to go with your first option as I find it unlikely that they would go to the trouble of producing the supposedly most detailed Hogwarts ever and yet cobble together some random tower that fits nowhere. I can understand the owlery as it's a separate structure in the source material, but I'm guessing it's more likely the Flying Lesson is meant to be used in connection with another yet unreleased set. I really hope so at least or it would show very little forethought and care and I think the designers know there are a lot of Lego HP fans that have been following the brand through the past two castle iterations and are looking for something more cohesive.

More so based on my other examples rather than the DADA classroom, admittedly I’m with you! I had the 2007 set growing up, it was one of my first. Building the little Umbridge office with the cat stickers and cat plates and all the pink accents was so fun. Would love to see a modern take on that with way more detail. Also bring back grumpy scowl Umbridge face, most of her new minifigs she’s looking like a sweet little old lady. Dumbledore’s Army scenes are also endearing, so a way more detailed or thoughtful version of the room of requirement would be cool with some patronus lessons. Would also like a brick built serious in the fireplace tile again. I will accept that a $250 tower would be a risk to display this movie, but I really hope that one of the castle expansions in the future brings in the later movies. Even an Umbridge office add in would be cool. Edited December 11, 2024 by JS038

I just think OotP deserves a proper castle expansion too as it‘s the only film besides DH1 not to have one yet! (And it‘s one of my personal favourites.) Granted, a $250 one may be overkill, but I think it‘s also overkill to have yet another large expansion themed around CoS. I get it, the first two movies are deemed the most magical, which is not untrue, but they‘ve kinda been done to death now First of all, LEGO doesn't make sets solely for movie-goers. The books are still a thing, new boxed editions are being released pretty regularly for both kids and adults, and those do factor into our enjoyment of the sets. It's not just Harry's incessant whining in OotP - the books (and movies) generally become a lot less fun after GoF. Just compare Lockhart and Umbridge, the teacher foils in CoS and OotP! Both are despicable people but Lockhart's despicable in a hilarious way with his incompetence and his obsession with looking good and his hints to Harry about being famous and his pride in having won an award for his smile. With Umbridge, all you get is Dumbledore handing over Hogwarts to a child abuser. In addition, the focus on classes becomes less with each book, mostly just one or two classes per book (Divination and DADA in PoA, DADA in GoF and OotP, Potions in HBP), whereas the first book introduces plenty of classes, even ones LEGO has never done (such as Binn's History class). So yes, like most everything else HP (Hagrid's Hut, the Burrow, Hedwig ...) PS and CoS themed Castle expansions have been done to death, but that's because the earliest books are the best suited to them (with later books filiing in gaps such as Divination). I don't think LEGO's all that interested in taking risks with the theme these days. Even Malfoy Manor neatly fits with the Ministry and Grimmauld Place in a mini series of dark location sets. They'll do one every other year - Lovegood House or possibly Spinner's End might well be next - but other than that it's the same old, same old. Edited December 11, 2024 by brickbride
Legoman123 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 Can someone tell me why the new Knight Bus dosent have a Shrunken Head included?

Looking back over the POA and the pictures of this set, it looks like it might have been a trade-off for the accuracy of the design. Looking back, the 2019 model is fairly inaccurate. The indent on the right side is far less extreme than it is in the film. Ernie is sitting in the center of the model, closer to the indent, and the set chose to put the shrunken head to his left rather than to his right and in front of him as it's placed in the film. In the 2025 model, the indent is properly proportioned to scale, which results in Ernie being pushed up against the left wall ( when looking at this model head-on). Looking at the picture from above, there's only 1 stud between Ernie and the indent where a window should be, with the indented wall onward being where the passengers are. There doesn't seem to be any actual room for the shrunken head to be put within the vehicle itself, and any other placement would be inaccurate. All this to say that it seems that between the choices of creating a more accurate design for the vehicle as it exists in the films or including all character elements, they chose the former.

Accuracy excluding the shrunken head, that is…! ;) When I think of the Knight Bus, I don’t think of the exact dimensions of the bus. I think of the fact it’s purple. I think of the fact it’s triple decker. And I think of the funny head saying “Old lady at twelve o clock!” “It’s gonna be a bumpy ride…” “Hey guys? Why the long faces?” Lego have missed out a defining feature of the scene in pursuit of this vehicular accuracy, it appears. Seems a strange choice to me.

It certainly is an odd choice given that the shrunken head is a pivotal part of the scene when lego seems to be striving for contributing all the needed characters for a scene ( Malfoy mannor being an exception because of how many figures would be needed). They could have put him under the indent outside of the interior. Although that wouldn't have been accurate either at least it would have been still included. The only way it could have been fit within the vehicle would be if they made the build larger. Besides concerns about how it would look, knowing Lego, they would charge more for it.

So it's not that close to The Great Hall. Hi, I made the original post on Reddit, with an image from this Hogwarts Re-creation blog. The image shows the Hogwarts training grounds area based on Alnwick Castle, which was one of the main filming locations in the first two movies. This section shrinks down in later movies. I posted the Chamber of Secrets version since it was the best view of the area I could find if the back of the castle and it is very similar to the layout in the first movie (mainly with the addition of the Whomping Willow) One red circle was representing where the Flying Lesson scene takes place in the film, which is the four-cornered gatehouse type building that had the statue with the spear that Neville gets hooked on. The other circle is the more likely part of the castle that the set will actually connect to, though considering that the set is a generalized representation of two towers and a wall from Alnwick, it could also end up connecting at the far back corner by the green house. I think just like the other Hogwarts waves, we will wait to wait until the all sets are released before we have the full shape of their intended layout. Edited December 12, 2024 by Ferder

I'm almost certain that Flying Lesson will represent Training grounds tower which is exactly what you call "a shrunken Alnwick Castle". I understand some might be disappointed hoping to have something more majestic in that place but 99% it won't happen and there are still many many other parts of the castle that await.

Yes that's very possible. This is what Training Grounds tower looks like by Half-Blood Prince. It mostly looks like one of the Bell Towers, but there is still a bit of Alnwick Castle remaining. Hopefully that would mean getting the Transfiguration Courtyard too at some point since the Training Grounds tower is right on the corner of it.

Sure, a smoother top would make them more screen-accurate, but then they slowly become more of a "generic action figure" instead of a "Lego minifigure," if that makes sense. It would be like having individual fingers on the hands or noses and ears on every head - I just don't think it would look right.

The fact that those exist make those characters with stud on top of their head look unfinished standing next to them in my opinion.
Virginia_Bricks Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 Underrated thing from this year's wave of modular castle sets: Only Harry and Hermonie had repeat minifgures. As for next year the only repeats so far are Harry and Draco (who we didn't get at all in the first year), but likely guaranteed Neville repeats with Herbology and Ron and Hermonie will be in the large set most likely.
