NoOneOfImportance Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Just now, Seaber said: I think the one by the courtyard will be for the viaduct, the middle two for the grand staircase tower, the last one... I'm not sure! It's also possible that some of these connection points are also just for customizability. For example, you could put the tower at the very end, or in the middle, or at the front. Just more variety for kids if desired.
Huigberts Builds Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 Hmmmm, pretty underwhelming on the interior side imo. I feel like I'll need to combine all 3 previous sets to get the actual perfect great hall. I mean we finally got the golden owl lectern last time and now we're back to basically nothing. The tables are also boring. At least in 2018 they tried to do 4 tables, last time it was filled with cool wizard food and it could turn into the dueling club, now they are just 2 long and boring ones. The dungeon is also nothing to write home about. Way too many holes. If they removed that "play feature" and just focused on the one design it would've looked miles better. Definitely gonna have to mix it with the house banner, and I think I'll just make my own kitchen for down there. The banners do look nice though, and is that the Philosopher's Stone in the top tower? At least the figures are great, the Troll looks amazing, and the feet are a nice throwback to the original, which I feel wouldn't look too out of place next to this one. The Fat Friar is amazing, fingers crossed for the Bloody Baron with Christmas (although that would be an odd inclusion so I'm not getting my hopes up too much). Vector looks great, although she doesn't look too much like the one from the movies, I feel like Dumbledore's hat and hair combo would've worked better. Speaking of which, Dumbledore looks great, and has arm printing, making him just as good as McGonagall. Quirrell looks way better as well now with the brown robes rather than black and the more nervous looking expression is way more fun than the more generic one from last time. Either way, I was most interested in the exterior on this one in the first place, so I suppose I'll have to be a bit more patient, but it indeed looks like there are stairs to the boathouse (as seen on the image with Quirrell in the courtyard) and the round building appears to be visible as well. The rock formation looks to be a bit flat though, but hopefully it's just on that one side. The Diagon Alley part looks interesting. Ollivanders looks like a squashed version of the D2C one, which is fine. I like the new wands, I suppose they're like attachments or something. I just hope that means we're finally getting a unique Elder Wand as well. Ollivander himself looks amazing, I'm so happy they went back to the brown clothes, as the D2C one has lost all its uniqueness almost immediately, and the one from before that has skyrocketed. Madam Malkin herself looks great, just not what I expected. The robes are perfect, but she looks too young imo, wish the hat mold came with grey hair instead. But I can easily replace that part with something else. Interior however looks a bit meh again. But hopefully it will come with plenty of prints or stickers I can use to make one that fits more into the d2c alley.

Compare the leaked image and the blurred one and tell me please if I am right or wrong. I think you're absolutely right, and yet somehow whether it's part of 'the most detailed Hogwarts Castle' or not it still feels underwhelming.

Honestly I would rather take 1/2 of the castle decently detailed, versus pieces of the castle that don't match the actual layout. Which is what we are getting if the booklet image is the full wave. Then I will just MOC the rest of the castle and make it complete.

I just don't think the detailed exterior / removable interior thing looks very good here. I know there are budget constraints, yet if it was say this concept but with the Polyjuice style modules slotting into the underground I could see the charm and aesthetic appeal. However, these interior modules just don't resemble rooms. The bathroom section just reminds me of a chair with the curved back and sides and the common room feels like one of the balcony module sections of the last castle wave, except the difference there was that they were just to provide a roof or rampart and this is actually meant to be interior.
brickbride Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 (edited) I'm curious how the Potions Class will fit into it, for much the same reasons you've stated. The "modules" are definitely underwhelming. And I cannot see a feasible way of cramming four figs plus some necessities (such as cauldrons, potions bottles, workbenches, and chairs) into one of them, yet the Potions Class is said to have four figs and to fit into the new system. EDIT: Well, I guess if the students sat two abreast, at 12 studs width that could work. Or possibly even if they didn't but Snape just stood there instead of having, like, a teacher's desk. Especially since I guess the students would all have those stupid short legs and therefore couldn't sit anyway, so maybe we won't even get chairs? Still, asking EUR 38 for one of those modules sounds crazy expensive to me ... Edited April 25, 2024 by brickbride

That's very true. They could maybe squeeze into the bathroom size module or it could be you get two modules and they replace both the bathroom and common room, but it's going to be cramped.

The Bloody Baron being included in the AC would be amazing...Peeves would also be a great option! Since the Fat Friar is included with the Hufflepuff common room (though not much of one), maybe other ghosts will be released along with their common room in the new system? If so, Peeves being included in the AC would make sense. It could also be Professor Binns. Is the theme of the AC known yet, or no? 5 hours ago, Huigberts Builds said: These reveals are usually on a Friday, so I'm gonna guess next Friday is the most likely day for a reveal, if it doesn't get leaked before that. Although the sets seem to be base mainly on PS, Penelope Clearwater, Millicent Bulstrode and Ernie MacMillan (all from COS) would give the same ratio of boys/girls and also one each of the other houses, and be mostly appropriate for the shorter legs. Eagerly awaiting confirmation of their identities - if any!
Mordarch Posted April 25, 2024 Posted April 25, 2024 With the interiors in the bottom part being removable, does anyone think this is how they'll make it modular? Releasing different modules that you can insert how you like throughout the castle? Maybe they'll release another Chamber of Secrets that could fit in there or something.

Imagine if they released a few different Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom modules that you could swap out depending on which Year/Teacher you wanted for your castle.
chris6507 Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 Is anyone else like me and waiting to see how the sets are all coming together before jumping in? If it looks amazing as a minifig scale castle all together i'll consider getting it. Otherwise I might pass. Still regretting purchasing the last itteration. Looks so square and ugly. Did buy the owlery already as I reckon that'd go well with the 2018 sets.

I'm not impressed at all right now. I never really believed the claim that this would be the most detailed Hogwarts ever made but I thought it would at least be an improvement over previous versions and I'm in fact seeing a downgrade. 5 hours ago, brickbride said: The wiki has an unidentified blonde Slytherin girl; I couldn't find any named ones: https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Unidentified_blonde_Slytherin_girl Do we know Daphne Greengrass' or Tracey Davis' hair colour? And a nice reminder that we never got future Draco, Asteria, and Scorpius.
Clone OPatra Posted April 26, 2024 Author Posted April 26, 2024 The 2018 Great Hall took the cake for me and hasn't been topped. Yeah it has its negatives - the proportions are obviously all wrong, the tower interior is weak (though I like its exterior personally), that Basilisk is laughable - but as a toy it really had what counts. Four tables. Enough room for staff. A ton of minifigures. A fair price. The sliding rooms look quite weird at the moment and not what I had in mind. The concept of exchangeable interiors without walls is intriguing actually, but the execution looks dubious from the one picture we have. That could change with better pictures. In any event, I'm not even sad I won't be buying this, though I would of course like the troll.

I think the formula for a good set is "size : (play value + detail)"... the 2018 great hall did a great job with it's a cute but recognisable shape, that captured the licences vibe. The new one does not benefit from havin a row of 1x2x2 Window frames more per window and so on... it just feels empty and soulless :/ that the sky looks terrible doesnt help either.

Maybe they'll release another Chamber of Secrets that could fit in there or something. I very much doubt it, for several reasons: 1) The Chamber of Secrets is one of the most iconic parts of the castle and has traditionally been the focus of the more expensive sets (flagship of 2002 to complement 2001's castle, flagship of the 2021 reboot), so it would make sense for it to be its own set rather than just replacement modules. 2) If, as has been noted, the blurry pic shows us the intended shape of the castle, they're going to need a bunch more underground modules to build this shape. There's not actually that many locations that are canonically underground. 3) How would you even cram a basilisk into one of those tiny slide-out modules? If I had to guess, I'd expect the Chamber of Secrets to be the flagship of another wave (maybe next year's), similar in style to the Great Hall with some aboveground sections (like Myrtle's toilet or Lockhart's classroom or the corridor with the "Enemies of the Heir, beware" graffiti) and some dungeon sections. Those might still be slide-outs, but I guess they could make an extra long one or something to accommodate a basilisk. I'm also guessing that the Potions Class is going to be not only a slide-out module but a slide-out module complete with walls so you can attach it to the Great Hall rather than just replace one of the others. Like I've said, they're going to need underground locations. And EUR 38 is still very pricey for what I'm expecting but would be downright crazy for just a slide-out module. Tariq j Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 Can’t say I’m hugely impressed with the Great Hall. As others have said the 2018 version still feels like the definitive version for me. This version omits the fireplace and the lectern as well. I’m also not hugely keen on those large stickers they’ve used in the dungeons - it feels like the sort of stickers they’ve been using in the Hogwarts moments/banner sets. The minifigure lineup is excellent though and the exterior proportions look a lot better too. Ollivanders looks really nice. Hopefully that sign post is tease of what’s to come.
Jaromir Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 Another thing is, that the Great Hall is one of the biggest and most expensive set from Harry Potter series, apart from Collectors Edition sets, but it does not look that big comparing to the others parts of Hogwarts Castle on the blurred image. Over the past few year, when the Lego Harry Potter series was brought back to life, we were always having at first year wave Great Hall set, which was always the most expensive, and then another, smaller and cheaper parts of Hogwarts were being released over following years. This time I am afraid, that the Great Hall won't be the biggest and most expensive set from new Hogwarts collection.

BrickBob Studpants Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 I forgot what the description of the potions classroom said, but maybe it actually consists of two modules or comes with its own castle section it can slide out of? Personally, I like this modular system a lot more than the previous one. Now let‘s hope they‘ll release more than just a small handful of modules this time!
