joeee Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 (edited) Durmstrang Ship would benefit if were bigger, but I like this size because it will not overshadow the Great Hall. It would look decently proportional. Edited May 2, 2024 by joeee
BrickBob Studpants Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Looooooove the Durmstrang ship!! It’s even better than I was expecting! And the minifigs are fantastic
Seaber Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 (edited) Love the Durmstrang Ship, bit of a shame there Maxime is the same variant as before, just with legs rather than a dress piece this time. Karkaroff looks great, but I don't remember that hairpiece. And great to confirm we get Crouch! Another name ticked off the list. I really like Ollivanders and Malkins, it's an improvement over the WWW set and hope to see more of these in future years. I like the extra shots of Hogwarts, I think it's only the courtyard interior we haven't seen now? I understand what people are saying about the inaccuracy if the Boathouse Steps but not sure how they could have been done better in this system/sclae/pricepoint/recommended age. Potions is absolutely wonderful, let's hope we see more classes like this - Charms with the panelled walls and blocks of desks and a new feather, transfiguration with cages and a half rat half goblet, any of the DADA lessons... or a Herbology set with a proper greenhouse! MaxHeadroom Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I honestly love this great hall, even the interior (at least of the hall itself). The overall shape is obviously the most accurate we’ve ever seen, and leagues ahead of the squashed 2018 model. It’s got the little tower on the visible side of the hall’s exterior for the first time in minifig scale. It’s got the second lower layer of windows for the for the first time since *2001*. The entrance is also easily the best we’ve ever seen on a proper Great Hall set. We’ll see how it compares to last year’s version once we can see it better but I at least appreciate the effort to make it 3D and brick built instead of just a large sticker. Yes I miss the arches over the windows. I’m not a big fan of how the central tower turned out either. It’s not perfect but it’s still easily the best exterior for the Great Hall. Everything around it is also the best we’ve ever seen. The rocks are definitely better than 2021 and 2001. The 2018 courtyard is laughable compared to 2023 and the Sirius Black/Battle of Hogwarts mismatched courtyards don’t really compete much either. It’s nice to have the railings around the outside of the Great Hall too.The stairs are too straight but they exist for the first time in minifig scale. They’ll be mostly covered by the boathouse anyway so I’m not too bothered. The interior of the hall itself is also great and has as many pros and cons as the rest of them. Yes the 2018 version technically had four tables but really it only had two rows of tables broken up in the middle. Personally I’ll take two full length tables over four half length ones. The banners also look great and make a lot more sense than always having to display two different houses at a time or just the Hogwarts crest of the 2021 version. I don’t mind the golden owl not being here since it wasn’t always there in the movies anyway. The candles are finally actually floating on clear bricks for the first time since 2001, if you even count those giant floating flames. The sky isn’t perfect but it’s another thing we’ve never seen them try before. It’s a shame to loose the fireplace but taking it all in, it still seems like the interior of the 2024 version is at least as good as the 2018 version. Now the basement rooms… are another discussion. They aren’t just empty hallways though so that’s a step up over most of the Hogwarts sets we’ve seen in recent years.

The fact that you can remove and fold out modules is quite clever and allows for better interior detail, especially as exemplified by the Potions Classroom. That’s a good point about interiors. In the past, to have an interior, you had to also have an exterior wall - which meant you ended up with very long (and for the Green roof line, featureless) Hogwarts displays. But now it can be like a little top-down view of what happens inside without wasting exterior space (and also without wasting pieces!).
Seaber Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Well, with confirmation of the minifigs, here is the updated list of who we still need: PS (7+3): Alicia Spinnet, Tom, Dedalus Diggle, Doris Crockford, King's Cross Guard, Bloody Baron, Augusta Longbottom, (Firenze, Trevor, Unicorn) CoS (8+1): Millicent Bulstrode, Mr Mason, Mrs Mason, Ernie MacMillain, Penelope Clearwater, Mr granger, Mrs granger, Knockturn Alley witch, (Errol) PoA (2): Aunt Marge, Housekeeping Witch GoF (4): Roger Davies, Amos Diggory, Frank Bruce, Eloise Midgen OotP(6): Mrs Figg, Zacharias Smith, Madam Bones, John Dawlish, Antonin Dolohov, Prof Grubbly-Plank HBP (7+1): Narcissa Malfoy, Amycus Carrow, Alecto Carrow, Thorfinn Rowle, Katie Bell, Cormac McLaggen, Marcus Belby, (Inferi) DH (9+1): Charity Burbage, Bill Weasley, Mundungus Fletcher, Elphius Doge, Rufus Scrimgeour, Xenophilius Lovegood, Aunt Muriel, Bathilda Bagshot, Dirk Cresswell, (Giants) Aside from Hogwarts, not many locations are needed to tick a lot of these off - Leaky Cauldron, King's Cross, Privet Drive, Malfoy Manor, Burrow Wedding Tent, and Knockturn Alley would provide an opportunity for over 20 of these alone!

This means that as of right now, Igor Karkaroff and Lavender Brown are the only two characters that can actually wear the current version of Ravenclaw’s Diadem. (Not that they should, it’s probably super cursed based off what happened to Dumbledore when he put on the Peverell ring)

SuperChris Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I love the new ship - back in 2005 the original was my favourite LEGO set! The new Great Hall looks great but I can’t justify the purchase until I see how LEGO handles the next sections over the next few years. If they’re all at the same quality, I can see me buying all of them.
Slytherin Alumni Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I was really excited when I heard about the new Great Hall! Fortunately (price), it did not meet my expectations. The exterior is nice, but the interior is much smaller than I had imagined. The biggest GH ever by LEGO should have all 4 house tables along with the Professor table. The troll and the Fat Friar are the only things I really want from this set, so perhaps a BL order? I love the potions class and look forward to combining it with the potions book and making a moc classroom. The AC is really nice this year. Although, it seems really overpriced: $45 for 301 pieces! I will absolutely be waiting for a sale on this one. They normally have them on sale by Black Friday :) Buildable creatures are not for me, but I do agree that Aragog looks great! The Triwizard Arrival doesn't interest me either. I only wanted WWW in DA (and a new B&B...maybe next year) so MM and O's is a skip for me. I am particularly interested in the D2C Burrow (which has not technically been confirmed) later this year. The wedding tent being the GWP would be icing on the cake! When do we normally hear about the D2C? Is it in summer?

Wish it was just the ship to keep the price low. But original content in 2024 for this theme? Nearly unheard of, excited to scoop it up. Do you mean the Durmstrang ship? While there hasn’t been one for a while, there was one in 2005. We’ve actually had one more recently than we’ve had a Troll on the loose! The Durmstrang ship looks great – not my area of collection, but it does look great. Bonus points for making the carriage smaller in order to save on parts, and for giving Maxime proper legs. I’m fed up with all those minifigs that you cannot pose in HP. (The Great Hall is very bad about this, again, with all the skirt pieces and short legs.) The Potions class has a number of nice new parts and a great new Snape, BUT as an add-on to the new modular system it’s pretty rubbish. So, what – you have to fold the sides around the base, stack all the random stuff that doesn’t fit on the base, throw in the minifigs, and then slide it in instead of one of the other modules? That doesn’t make for a great display (since you can now only see the front wall with the door, and also this doesn’t fit with the Great Hall’s existing modules which don’t have front walls or doors). But it doesn’t give you ease of play, either, since you cannot just slide it out and play with it like the Troll or Hufflepuff common room modules; you have to take it out and re-arrange all minifigs and loose parts. It’s basically a glorified Moments book, except those actually looked very nice while closed. Also, as has been pointed out, you now have nowhere to put the other module you had to remove in order to make room for this one. When I heard that they were making the Potions Class as an add-on to the new system, I figured it would be in the same style – that is, two side walls and a back wall to add onto the Great Hall at one of the existing connection points, and a module-inside-the-module you could slide out for ease of play. What they’ve done instead seems poorly thought-out to me. Also, so far we’ve had four sets for the new system. And one’s the Great Hall with the slide-outs, one’s the Potions class which isn’t really compatible with that, and two are stand-alones with no sliding-out functions at all. The timeline’s all over the place, too – this is understandable when combining several sets, but as it is, it’s somehow Halloween in the Great Hall’s dungeons while it’s Christmas in the Great Hall. (A wasted opportunity for including Halloween decorations, given that the Advent Calendar could easily have supplied the Christmas decorations on its own.) This new system seems a lot less cohesive than the 2021 system already (and that’s saying something). EDIT: I've just found that a German retailer, JB Spielwaren, has the Great Hall up for EUR 170 (apparently the list price is EUR 200, not EUR 220 as in several of the leaks) and you can get the Bloody Baron as a custom minifig to go with it! Just putting this out there since so many people are wanting the Baron. https://www.jb-spielwaren.de/lego-76435-schloss-hogwarts-die-grosse-halle/a-76435/ Edited May 2, 2024 by brickbride
Sinistereo Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 even in the minecraft summer 2024 video ashnflash said that North America is getting both those sets and the HP sets in August....is there any legitimacy to his words? Since when do lego sets not have a simultaneous worldwide release?

Mordarch Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 It has happened before with the HP-line actually, usually like a month difference between zones.

Virginia_Bricks Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 The Star Wars summer wave is delayed 2 months this year so I would assume it is the same thing for Harry Potter. And it is only delayed for NA. Overall disappointed in the potions classroom set because there is no added exterior. It is great for play and customizability but it feels like a wasted set in the modular castle lineup if you want a detailed interior AND exterior of the castle. Going to wait till next year to think about purchasing it and see if one on next year's wave has a an incomplete dungeon you can slide this into.

Oh, I believe you are correct just wish it was different. Since this won't be the complete castle (that would take 6+ years of sets), when I MOC the remaining sections maybe I will just include an empty dungeon for this to slide into.
Bobdapeach Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 It’s 3am and I just woke up and am going to work, but I remember a discussion yesterday about release dates. I just saw on Twitter the designer for buckbeak saying it’s releasing June 1st
Seaber Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Aside from the Triwizars Arrival, all official images are on the Lego store if you want extra/hq images and hadn't seen them yet :)
