The Gringotts set we already have is clearly meant to be compatible with DA. Besides, DA will soon be 4 years old and will likely face its EoL within a year or two, negating any further add-ons that rely on its availability. A DA remake is more likely I think

I wouldn't be so sure about that. You're approaching it with simple common sense, and that's not the only driving factor in their decision making process. (If it is at all...

Something going EoL isn't an entirely reliable predictor of things to come. For example, the Ninjago City and NC Docks had been retired for over a year before NC Gardens appeared, and for the same reasons you don't think they'd release a DA2 after DA went EoL, I'd argue the latter set lost a little on appeal if you hadn't gotten at least one of the others before. Agreed, but that didn't stop them. Instead you have the release of NC Markets to broaden NC Gardens' appeal again. While it might seem superficially counterintuitive, the approach helps with retailer shelf space issues, rewards fans by increasing the value of something they took a chance on, and allows your piggy bank to replenish so you can make the next stretch when it inevitably comes. (How many aren't getting the 2024 GH because the product cycles were too short?) The thought a set might suddenly get such a boost in the future in turn lends more attractiveness to their present collections (sometimes deservedly, sometimes not), and that while they also try to keep the scalping / speculating in check (purchase limits, or through brutal re-releases: 2009 and 2015 Winter Toy Shops, for instance). It's a delicate balance. Whatever else, the brand holds value in part by how they manage releases and re-releases; that's part of what you're paying for.

So yeah, I can absolutely picture them doing the same with DA. On a different note, though, the set was made so you could display two builds across from two others, so if they did the same again, it's not necessarily a deal breaker that you'd be missing half the street.

We are also definitely experiencing a DA remake, and will eventually see more of the same if only the line runs long enough. Rinse, repeat. Lego, kindly take my monehs.

As for Gringotts, I know you can display the set with DA, but if the line continues, there's no earthly way they don't remake it, also on a D2C scale. The current version also has half a set that proves difficult to display with the rest, and over-invests in the façade while under-investing in the Menagerie, which is too rudimentary by far and not in scale with the street. So this, too, feels like something they'd revisit.

Personally, I’d prefer a revisit of the Magical Menagerie to be at the playset scale seen with last year’s WWW and this year’s Malkin’s+Ollivander’s. The multiple custom WWW products from last year and the new multi-wand pack in two colors this year show they’re willing to give these sets the budget to actually feel properly stocked even if the architecture is lower than D2C standards. With WWW being HBP based and this year’s set being based on SS, I can easily see the next couple of years being, say, a CoS Flourish & Blott’s+Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor and a PoA Magical Menagerie+Quality Quidditch Supplies (featuring the Firebolt).

Not very likely. The ship has so little screentime and is of such limited significance story-wise, it‘s almost a miracle we‘re getting the playset version, let alone a more expensive one :shrug_oh_well:

The Knight Bus, Flying Ford, and Hogsmeade are very plausible ideas though! :sweet:

Agreed on all of this. I'd forgotten there was a rumor for a large Knight Bus - that would be pretty cool.

  • Knockturn Alley
  • Leaky Coultron with Knights Bus
  • Durmstrang Ship (that was actually my guess for the return of it but now we got a playscale one instead - probably won´t get the D2C one for a while now)
  • Ministry of Magic - likely they won´t make it now since the playscale one didn´t seem to sell well. But for me they should have made a D2C version right away instead of the playscale one
  • An other Icons Set where you build Fawkes instead of Hedwig
  • other Diagon Alley shops
  • and there are plenty other locations they could make an UCS version of. Hogsmeade in the Style of Diagon Alley, Privet Drive, Grimmauld Place etc.
  • and likely they will come up with other unique ideas

These would all be cool, I think the only ones I'd buy would be a large Durmstrang Ship and Grimmauld Place. @krimimimi mentioned another Hagrid's Hut at large scale might work, too, and I think I'd buy that as well.

Has any one found any comparisons out there between the 2018 Great Hall and the 2023 Great Hall? Trying to gauge a size on this bad boy to see if I’m willing to sink $200 for it.

Presumably it will include the Harry head with the alternate sooty+broken glasses face that’s so far been exclusive to the Diagon Alley D2C. It will probably mostly feature the Floo fireplace with whatever new play feature they’ve devised for it, but with any luck there will be enough leftover pieces to do a display of Borgin & Burke’s merchandise.

I would expect some display of the surroundings of the fireplace at least.

It sounds interesting but I am a little bummed that there’s a high chance we won’t see and collectible portraits in the gwp since the main Diagon set for this summer doesn’t include them.

Yeah, unlike the choco frog cards those are meant to not only be collected but also used in the actual Sets, which wouldn´t just be fitting in the GWP, at least not with the wizards displayed. I could however see them using them in the Burrow, but at the same time it wouldn´t surprise me if they werent included aswell.

I am just not sure if there is that high demand for that. I mean the hut we have now, or the last one have a good size to display next to the castle and is much smaller compared to other buildings like the Burrow where I just see more place to display. Personally for me the hut just isn´t a Set I would need a proper version of (because the ones we got so far were pretty good) and I don´t know what they should increase it in size for really. While other buildings like the Ministry would greatly profit from a bigger version.

Still in the process of building the sets, and I noticed we just got the very first minifig with the new sienna skintone, namely Padma! I wonder if the other new skintone introduced earlier this year (umber) will also show up in a minifig soon :sweet:

I'm surprised this polybag ain't part of any GWP promo since it's clearly an extension to the forbidden forest creatures set.  I wouldn't mind they release more polybags like this though.

The polybag typically gets bundled in as a lower price point gwp whenever the actual 40XXX gwp promo is run - although sometimes that’s only in store and not online. The leaks say that this year’s Borgin & Burke’s promo will start September first so I imagine anyone as yet unable to find the Draco polybag will be able to snag it then. If memory serves, polybag thresholds are usually pretty low (below the price of this year’s advent calendar for instance) so anyone wanting to snag it for free should be able to do it pretty easily.

Polyback thresholds were 40€ if I remember correctly, though doesn´t matter that much since we would be buying enough to get the main GWP anyways. I hope we stay in the price range of last years GWPs.

As for the question when the GWP will be avaiable, they started celebrating Hogwards day last year and mentioned to do the same again next (this) year so it should be at the same dates (with maybe a few days difference) every year now together with the big D2C Set.

Technically the big D2Cs have almost always released at the beginning of September since the reboot - they just finally thought to market it as back to Hogwarts day last year. The gwps haven’t always coincided with release days though, so it’s nice they seem to be sticking with that now.

About the Burrow... I think it would be nice if the set came with a pair of new mold gnomes... they were an infestanting presence in first Harry Potte videogames (infestating both Hogwarts rooms and corridors and Weasley garden)

There was a leak of the D2C Burrow set description, again on polish website. It states that:

  1. The set will be over 50cm high.
  2. Burrow will be can be split in half vertically and it can be folded so two halves will make set closed.
  3. In front of the Burrow, there will be small garden and on the side a small farm with 2 pigs.
  4. On the ground floor we will find kitchen with big table and family clock, and living room with fireplace.
  5. On upper floors we will get rooms of Ron, Arthur and Molly, Fred and George, Ginny, and also small Percy's room, toilet and bathroom.
  6. Leak says there will be 10 minifigures but it lists only Ron, Ginny, Arthur, Molly, Fred, George and Percy, I am not sure if they treat pigs and owl (Errol) as a minifigures.
  7. Also they say that no stickers included, only prints.

10 minifigures

For what I remember, in the survey leaked burrow there were at least 8 red-haired minifigures (I don't remember Ginny) plus Hermione. Weasley family has 9 members and it would be logic to have all of them in a collector set. So I would say Weasleys plus Hermione and the GWP with Harry to recreate the Floo Powder scene from CoS.

If you look at the survey leak picture it’s pretty easy to see eight redheads plus a minifig with Hermione hair on the ground, and if you look closely you can see a shorter redhead with the hair typically used for Ginny on the upper balcony.

That can’t be what they were going for in the preliminary image - Hermione wasn’t in that scene. She doesn’t even visit the Burrow until GoF.

Remember everyone, this was just a survey leak. It’s so not-set-in-stone that all the characters are represented by blank white minifigs. The final set could have Harry replacing Hermione, or Harry added for 11 minifigs total, or Hermione removed for just the 9 Weasleys. We won’t know anything until either reliable leakers get ahold of more detailed information or pictures drop of the actual set. Until then, we just have to reassure ourselves with the fact that the designers clearly want to give us the full Weasley family, so we have decent odds of getting Bill and Charlie finally.

I was always in doubt about that being Ginny... feeling it to have strange proportion, but well probably it's her.

Yeah, I know... but as you've said there decent odds of getting the entire Weasley family. And, by the way, I would find totally illogic to not have all of them.

I think it’s best to reuse baby figure as gnomes with new head piece.

There is like no way that Harry won´t be included in the Burrow (not that I would miss him if he weren´t included but it is seeems so unlikely to me) The GWP will be avaiable for a short time only and won´t be a reason to not include him in the set.

So if really all Weaslys would be included, we would have the minifigures then - but that remains to be seen.

Increasing the pig number with one from the normal sets, could have put in some piglet as well so not so impressive pigwise

10 minifigs sounds reasonable and the other rumoured info fits with the prelim! Not sure about the “everything’s printed” claim though. The 2020 set had a looooooot of stickers, and this version is bound to include even more details and references, so this sounds a bit fishy :shrug_oh_well:

Isn’t this the same source who claimed that the ceiling in the GH would feature some stickers?  If so, seems like the source is credible, except when it comes to stickers and prints

Does Lego ever run deals during the Hogwarts GWP week or is it just the GWP? Wondering both about 2x VIP points and specific set sales.

I seem to recall a couple of sets getting double points promos back in 2018 when they started the reboot, but nothing stands out in my memory since then. It would be nice if we could get a Harry Potter double points promo for back to Hogwarts day like Star Wars gets for May the Fourth though.

As for 6., Google translator gives me "Molly, Arthur, Ron, Ginny, Fred and George, Percy, Errol and - of course - Harry (and one more)". This would suggest eight actual known minifigs plus Errol plus "one more" (which could be a human character or not). So no Charlie and likely no Bill, either. Though of course the information would depend on just how well the source can tell the individual Weasleys apart. But the characters mentioned all correspond with the rooms (except for Errol and Harry) so it makes sense.

As for 7., it specifically says "all graphic elements in the set are to be prints, including Quidditch team logos, posters and bedding." Make of that what you will.
