Hermes Mocs Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 An image of the upcoming CMF series just leaked. We'll be getting a new adult wolf mould and what seems to be a long-haired cat in white (hard to tell, but the tail seems to be more fluffy than the one of the existing cat mould). I would not be surprised if we see recolors of those new moulds as Padfoot and Crookshanks in the future.

I’m not very experienced at searching for leaks! thank you.
Hermes Mocs Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I saw it on instagram, @cmf6169_leaks was the account. But the image had a confidential stamp, so it might have been taken down again already.

It’s hard to tell exactly how well the new cat or wolf would work for Harry Potter characters currently, since the image is an out of focus group shot where most of those animals’ bodies are concealed - we wouldn’t even be talking about a new cat if it weren’t noticeable that the tail in the pic was thicker, the way things are place make it impossible to tell if the face shape is any different. That said, I wouldn’t get excited about Padfoot appearing in the wolf mold, he’s a big dog but ultimately still a domesticated dog, and the current mold used for him is actually the correct size, and scales well by being noticeably smaller than the minifigure werewolf, which I’m not sure the new wolf would. Crookshanks, on the other hand, probably would look better with the new cat mold. There have been two attempts at him (both since the reboot) and there were some pretty large changes between the two, suggesting that the designers were aware that shorthair Crookshanks didn’t look quite right. Now, none of the January sets could include him, but the Knight Bus being on that list means that the foot is in the door for more PoA sets in the summer wave. I’ve said before that a PoA based Quality Quidditch Supplies and Magical Menagerie would make a good installment in the DA playset series, and any PoA castle section in the new modular system could easily include a Gryffindor common room.

Sure, it's speculation. But from what we (or I) can see, the mold seems to be more accurate in shape at least. The current dog mould used feels somewhat... flat. Regarding the size: The most recent dog mould we got was the Afghan hound whose shoulder height is one plate higher and whose head is two plates higher than the shepherd dog and the retriever. Padfoot being described as a huge dog, I'd say a slightly larger mould than the current one is proportionate. But as I said, it's speculation, though I'd love to see that. Totally forgot about the rumoured Knight Bus. Makes it more likely imho hahahah. And if not: Acrylic paint ;)
B234 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Hello, maybe I am going to buy the Lego 71043 Hogwarts castle. Is it true there are 2 versions? Both have different kind of grey towers. Thank you.

It also doesn’t change the fact that one of his most notable scenes has him facing off against Moony the werewolf, where it’s obvious that 1) his face shape really is much more domestic dog instead of wolf, and more importantly 2) he’s significantly smaller than the werewolf, which is minifigure sized in lego form. It’s obviously tricky to tell from the pic we have, but the new wolf looks to be in a realistic scale with minifigs, which is to say that it should look roughly equal in size to one. That’s too big for Padfoot compared to Moony.

I think you're focusing too much on the limitations given by the real-life proportions in the movies. Also it only was speculation, as I said. Edited September 20, 2024 by Hermes Mocs

There’s a difference between ‘this small animal needs to be slightly bigger proportionally so it can fit on a stud’ and ‘lego isn’t realistic, so comparative sizes don’t matter’. The rat mold might be a bit larger in comparison to a human than they are in real life, but it’s still small enough for a minifigure to hold one in their hand, and it still looks smaller than the cat or owl (it’s natural predators). Thus, a dog that is supposed to be noticeably smaller than a wolf shouldn’t be the same size as one. And I’m still not sure why there’s any speculation about Padfoot using the wolf mold, since his facial and body structure aren’t the same at all.
Gorilla94 Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 Crookshanks would be wonderfull. He is the most missing thing, when it comes to HP minifigures, in my opinion.

You are overestimating the weight LEGO puts on getting proportions or scale right. The main quality LEGO strives for is readability, and that applies to all of their figs, animals, regardless of their real-life size or the movie example. Scabbers is only one example. The same is true for Cornish pixies that are magnitudes larger in the LEGO rendition than in the movies. Yes, the stud seems to be the minimum scale orientation in that regard. However, characters like Griphook or Dobby, mere half or a third/quarter the size of Harry etc., even in the first two movies, are the size of first and second graders in LEGO, because LEGO wants the figures to be read as "humanoid character", regardless of their actual size (which would be closer to the Cornish pixies in LEGO, which apparently is not too small to be done technically). There are loads of examples like this (I mean take the recent gorillas; they are near the size of a horse lol). To name another example close to what we're discussing is the Fang we recently got. He's characterized as massive dog/gentle giant in the books. In the movies, Fang is hardly the height of the kids' hips, in LEGO he's almost eye to eye with the first graders from the same set. Again, it's because the focus is on the readability as Fang being a massive dog; any other dog mould would not convey that notion to the "reader". They even changed his color to make Fang's face print readable as boarhound/Neapolitan mastiff with all the creases. So why would that not apply to Padfoot/Sirius? He's described as huge dog, so intimidatingly big Harry questions if he's actually seeing the grim. And regarding the movie example: I don't know what movie you saw, but at least the CGI version in PoA is massive: In this scene the shoulder height is like what, 8 inches/20 cm higher than the back of a regular park bench? So what height is he; 90cm, 1m? That's bigger than an average wolf. Also this is what you call "the fact that, large or not, Padfoot isn’t near the size of an actual wolf". Check at around 0:34. That thing is absolutely massive, nowhere near the size of a wolf but larger. Yes, he's smaller than werewolf Lupin, who, again, is rendered a minifigure so he's read as "actually a person". I don't expect the wolf mould to be larger than the Wolfpack fig it comes with, so I don't see your point that it might be larger than werewolf Lupin?!?. The wolf mould would scale quite well from what we can see (ofc it's no final judgement, as we don't actually know). I think the tattered look of Padfoot is also captured quite well, especially around the neck etc. (at least better than the current mould, and I take any improvement over that one). Also, again: I said I would not be surprised if they used the mould, NOT that I would be surprised if they don't. I don't expect LEGO to use the mould or anything, but certainly I wish they would for the given reasons as it would be an improvement in my eyes. Luckily for you, you already got a LEGO Padfoot that fits your idea of him. So what's your problem with people who think it doesn't? Edited September 21, 2024 by Hermes Mocs

To be honest I don't know^^' My dark ages started, when Lego changed to flesh minifigure, and lasted until the Simpsons came out. All I want at this point from the minifigures are Crookshanks, the Bloody Baron, robes for the other houses using printed medium legs like the cmf Gryffindor ones, more child face prints and more lesser knwown teachers. I qm super excited how the big Hogwarts with all Sets combined will Look like

Of the first three, Charity Burbage is the only one who appears on screen (in a rather disturbing scene), but given this year’s introduction of Madam Malkin and Charlie Weasley there’s now a solid precedent for including off screen characters.
THELEGOBATMAN Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 What do you guys think will happen with this theme when the HBO series releases? It's aiming for a 2026/2027 release date, so we have at most two years of this theme left as it is. But what then? Will WB tell LEGO to focus all their merchandise on the new series? Will we still be getting sets based on existing movies? Will LEGO just stop making sets for this theme altogether?

Will we still be getting sets based on existing movies? Will LEGO just stop making sets for this theme altogether? As for the third question, no they won't. HP is one of their top-selling themes. As for the first and second, honestly I don't know. I saw an ad recently that they're casting kids aged 9-11 for the trio, and explicitly welcome diversity. I've talked about that before and was shot down, but I'd be surprised if we ended up with an all-white trio or generally with the show's characters looking like the movies'. As to if and how LEGO change their HP minifigs to reflect any casting choices - well, Marvel might be a good comparision? There's the "Spidey and his Amazing Friends" cartoon for kids which gets 4+ sets, but there's a different Spiderman (or as of No Way Home, three different Spider-Men) in the MCU Multiverse. And then there's even more Spider-Man characters from, say, Across the Spiderverse which get sets as well (Miles Morales has had at least two I can think of, a mech and a car chase). They all just sort of exist next to each other. HP could go the same route, I guess. Of course, Spider-Man wears a mask most of the time, so while true fans surely can point out the differences in the costumes, for a casual buyer these characters are all just Spider-Man.And of course we don't know how successful the HP series will be whereas the movies have a proven audience (and nostalgic 90s kids are probably one of LEGO's main buyer groups by now, especially for the more expensive sets). Going back to the 2025 sets: The X-Men Mansion over at Marvel is reported to be compatible with the modulars at just over 3000 pieces. I'm not personally sure how that would work since it's supposed to have a layout akin to the Natural History Museum, which had 1000 pieces more, and also includes a side-build (a Sentinel). But a leaked image apparently shows the modular connection points so let's assume the information is correct. That said, what do you expect from Malfory Manor? I'm sure we can rule out compatibility with the modular system and expect an open back, but how big do you expect the Manor to be, and how many studs deep? Edited September 22, 2024 by brickbride

The thing about Grubbly-Plank is that she’s only present for the first part of the year before Hagrid’s return, so to include her would require a large OotP Hogwarts set based off something other than the Weasley twins’ fireworks display or anything else that came after Hagrid’s return. Maybe something involving the first DA meeting plus the wall of Educational Decrees? I’d expect something like that to not have much room for random minifigures though, what with the DA vs Inquisitorial Squad narrative.

Given how cautious TLG is with TV tie-ins, I can‘t see them going all in with show sets. The live-action Marvel shows are relegated to CMF series and even the non-Mando Star Wars shows get very few sets Moreover, this is the first big franchise like that with a complete reboot, so most license partners will likely be cautious. There simply isn‘t any precedent. If they switch to TV show merch and it bombs, it would take a while to recover. Nostalagia is a big factor why current merch sells well, a major advantage which the show won‘t have. It‘s not a coincidence HP merch is doing better nowadays than it did when the movies actually came out! I essence, movie sets still sell, show sets may fail. At most I could see them doing one wave each every year, as completely abandoning the movies is just too risky.

In the earlier movies they threw a whole bunch of extras at the head table and in the teachers’ section of the Quidditch stands. That’s actually the main reason we have ‘canon’ designs for Sinestra and Vector is because lego picked a couple of more interesting looking female extras and assigned them the names of known but unseen professors in their Harry Potter video games. WB apparently had no problems with this, and now the appearance of the ascended Sinestra extra has been used in non-lego media as well. It’s hard to say if lego would ever bother producing a Professor fig without a name attached to it though.
Chocolate Frog Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Maybe they’ll use mini figures for the movie theme and mini dolls for the TV show and keep them running side by side.
