Gorilla94 Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 What do you think? Will Harry Potter continue after the most detailed hogwarts line? I have to say I am a bit confused by stuff like downgraded minifigures with reused torso and unprinted legs. Then there comes something gorgeous like McGonnagall with printed arms at thd same time. Some sets set new standards in terms of how well made they are in my opinion (like Hagrids hut), then there are just awefull ones like the owlery. Those extremes seem new to me. I heard there are rumors about a bloody Baron next year? That would be cool. Now we are speculating about a quaffle mould. I think the most needed stuff are still printed midleg versions of the house robes for the other houses. We need Hermiones cat. What else is missing? To be honest I'd like to get tan hair for Luna and Lucius. I dislike the yellow hair. In the end it would be cool to get more young faces without lipstick, so there are less clones.

Seriously, why wouldn't it? It's one of LEGO's best-selling themes. The "most detailed" moniker refers solely to the modular Hogwarts system in any case, which is only a part of the HP theme. I'm sure they'll find some other superlative for the next iteration. 1 hour ago, Gorilla94 said: To be honest I'd like to get tan hair for Luna and Lucius. I dislike the yellow hair. And I really hate LEGO's tendency to signify femininity by having characters wear lipstick, no matter how inappropriate this is for the character in question. The D&D CMF series even had a barbarian warrior wearing lipstick! Edited December 25, 2024 by brickbride

I think it all depends on how long this Hogwarts line continues on for. Harry Potter has far less locations and continually expanding content than other perennial themes like Star Wars to draw from, so inevitably at some point most of the movies' scenes will have been covered. That being said, Lego could keep remaking the same locations and sets every few years and each time hit the next lot of kids who are interested in Harry Potter and were too young to appreciate or buy those sets even a couple of years before. The only trouble with that is that adults too are clearly purchasing a lot of the Harry Potter Lego and whilst each wave might capture new adults into the market, there are also a lot of us who have been interested in this theme for years and won't keep buying remakes. I collected the first castle line for instance, then the second, but am now only purchasing the minifigures from the new line. As detailed or interesting as it might be I have hit a fatigue when it comes to Hogwarts castle sets and can't bring myself to collect another line, even though I no longer have the first two lots of castle waves. So I suppose it will all depend on how popular both Harry Potter and Lego content remains and whether it is viable for Lego to keep producing sets. Like you, I think the compromises and cost cutting in sets in this line has become glaringly obvious if you've been interested in the theme for even a little while. To get a minifigure like McGonagall in the Boathouse set in one wave, means that another minifigure like Filch in the Owlery gets a downgrade and loses his printed legs. Again, there are quite a few minifigures in the new Malfoy Manor set, but Draco is literally a rehash of old and reused parts rather than the more specialised face and torso provided in the Room of Requirement set. When you know a minifigure can be done better then there is literally only cost to account for the lack of printing or downgrade in parts. Those standards though are not the designers' faults and I think the quality of sets in general has remained pretty consistent with some sets definitely improving when remade. This year's Ford Anglia and Aragog for instance were notable improvements for me and I will be interested to see how next year's Privet Drive turns out. As far as I know, the Bloody Baron as a minifigure is just pure speculation based on the fact that Lego has now given us not only the ghosts with dialogue in the movies with Nearly Headless Nick and the Grey Lady, but they also have now made the Fat Friar. Completing the house ghosts therefore doesn't seem that improbable or as potentially distant as it did when the line was first restarted and there was a plethora of characters more likely to be produced. Does Lego follow our logic when it comes to what they produce though? Often not. We've had Crookshanks twice now, first as Hermione's accessory in the first Harry Potter CMF series and then as a brighter orange cat included in the Grimmauld place set. That being said, I wouldn't mind a remake using the new CMF cat mold so we have a fluffier Crookshanks. The new wolf mold looked perfect for the Grim though to me, but Lego is still using the skinny smooth thing for the Grim in the Night Bus, so if Crookshanks does appear again at all it will probably still be the basic cat mold. I think Lego has committed to Luna and Lucius having bright yellow hair so I can't see that changing, but I would like there to be more variation in the child faces used for all the various students. No matter what the skin tone they are all smiling serenely or comically sad clones.

There’s not much to be confused about - every set will have something that budget constraints have limited, be it a character with a reused torso in a cheap set or the GRINGO TTS BANK in the Gringotts D2C.

Now we are speculating about a quaffle mould. I don’t think there are any actual rumors about the Bloody Baron. It’s all just speculation based on logic – the Bloody Baron is the only Hogwarts ghost we haven’t gotten as a minifigure, therefore the designers might be planning on including him in the main tower set this summer. There’s a new Quidditch themed polybag coming out just two years after one featuring a Seeker and Snitch, at the same time a Quidditch shop is coming out in a Diagon Alley series that has devoted a decent amount of budget to new elements to stock the store shelves – therefore the designers might be planning on introducing a new Qudditcj equipment mold that can be featured in both products. Neither observation has any basis in rumor or concrete information – just educated guesswork. We haven’t got anything on the summer sets yet except numbers, names, prices, and piece counts. Now when we find out what movie/scenes the Main Tower is based on, that will get me excited.

Did we figure out what movie the Great Hall was based on before images leaked?

Fair point. My guess was that, of we have a perfect built with this series and superior minifigs from before, there is little reason not to buy used stuff, when everything coming afterwarts is a downgrade in one way at least and the prices get higher and higher. If anyone is interested in tan hair pieces: revell Model colour is the perfect colour and when dry even a bit shiny, so it looks like original when put on a minifig. To be honest I like visible lips on adult female minifigures. It doesn't have to be red lip stick. Some slghtly darker skin colour works well. I love the different facial proportions on young and old character's faces. Makes the kids look cute and baby figures adorable. My issue is the small amount of different faces. Luna, Ginny, Daphne Greengrass, Susanne Bones... and probably several more down the line being clones is quite lame On 12/25/2024 at 2:16 PM, BacktoBricks said: This year's Ford Anglia and Aragog for instance were notable improvements for me I agree on the car 100%. Aragog is in my opinion a whole different concept. The last one was supposed to be cute and the new one realistic/creepy. I think both are perfect for what they want to be. Virginia_Bricks Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 First review of Flying Lesson has posted on YouTube and the clips are not used when the set is folded up. So pretty sure that confirms two sets will connect to it. One attaching to the smaller tower on the side and another attaching behind the bigger tower. Assume the Greenhouse might be one but maybe a new Astronomy tower.
mark1991t Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 And that confirms another set without any stickers. The trophy room is a print this time.
sammy_zammy Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Hmm it seems fine… at first I thought it was an amazing set. Now when I look at it it is pretty must just generic castle. It certainly looks really nice in that regard but doesn’t really stand out in any way either It’s very much the 2018 Whomping Willow of this line, but without the amazing potions interior, IMO.

Draco and Lucius actually had tan hair in the 2010-2011 sets, so those hairpieces do exist in tan - Draco actually had the same mold, but I think Lucius's hair is different. I checked on bricklink, and the ponytail used for 2010 Luna exists in tan too, although Luna had it in yellow.

I already upgraded Draco with the original :) Lucius old Hair is meant to be combined with a beard piece and looks terrible without it in my opinionon. I'll give him the current one for Luna painted tan and will see, how the blond hair from Wicked works on her. If I do not like it i'll paint the one from the malfoy manor. Gorilla94 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Just saw the review of the flying lesson set. Am I the only one, who thinks it looks weird when folded together (open room on the second floor) as well as if you put the flittwick class room inside with the walls visible through the large windows as well as grey bricks in the tan building from the flying lesson.?

It’s not great and clearly when folded it is supposed to be viewed from one angle. The Charms class fits best it seems under the Great Hall so far. Edited December 29, 2024 by Virginia_Bricks

The Grand Staircase should connect to the Great Hall right around that corridor, so it will be interesting to see if they try to tie that in. I expect just the Slytherin Common Room, since it seems too soon to introduce a new Basilisk big/buildable fig.

I agree, that it would be very early for Lego to release another basilisk with the old one wtill on shelves in many places. I read some speculation that the grand staircase might be just a very massive tower connecting to the open door at the courtyard leaving the space next to the great hall to the next large expansion. I look firward to see it anyways :)

I don’t see any reason not to give us a CoS set. The chamber is such a pivotal part of the hogwarts castle, it’d be very silly not to include it at some stage. not that it means much as a means of confirmation either, but a lot of these castle sets are based off the first 2 movies. Only difficulty I see is the great hall is such a big set as is, can they really fit a set underneath it? As much as I love the previous set (76389), I’d die if they gave us a set that’s JUST the chamber, not the castle on top

It also had what I still consider to be the best basilisk. They just don't make 'em like they used to! Edited December 31, 2024 by brickbride
