JohnTPT17 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I think Zero looks a little... Too good? He just doesn't look like Lego to me - he just looks like a small action figure. I'm sure that's not really a bad thing, but it does look a little odd to me is all. And I agree with everyone else - not having Oogie is a very odd decision. There's probably got to be a reason why - even if a mold was out of the budget, it probably wouldn't have taken much to get a brick built one thrown in, even if it looked a little off.

bRICK99 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Fig selection and execution is giving low budget. Which makes me fearful for the 100th set and it’s minifigs/minifig.

Aramar Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I have some mixed feelings with the NBC set. It looks very nice, but I'm mainly interested in the minifigures, and I find the set expensive for getting new variants of Jake and Sally (although she looks the same to the CMF to me) and 4 less interesting characters. Zero is the best thing of this set. If I have to choose between spending 200€ for this set or 220€ for Snow's, I think the princess' cottage is far more interesting in terms of minifigures.

JeanGreyForever Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 In the movie, Jack's house has a massively exaggerated staircase which really gives it a lot of elevation. I realized the house looks incomplete here because there's barely any stairs, and they're tan instead of gray for some reason. I can see a lot of people modding this set to give it a much longer staircase. Otherwise, the actual house design of the final set looks more movie accurate than the original submission. People also noticed that Lock, Shock, and Barrell's alternate faces don't feature their masks. Without the masks, and the rather generic hairpieces for Lock and Shock (Lock's hair should resemble devil horns and Shock's hair should resemble frizzy worms), they do seem a little too basic. 10 hours ago, JohnTPT17 said: And I agree with everyone else - not having Oogie is a very odd decision. Apparently the designer for the original submission doesn't like Oogie Boogie and specifically didn't want him in the set. I guess the Lego designers listened to his wishes.
hikouki Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I do not disagree that this set could be improved. But I will buy it. We don't have much in terms of Disney sets.
thebricksbear Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I don't generally agree with shredding lego sets as they appear, but comparing this with the Hocus Pocus set... yikes. It doesn't really feel like it captures the NBC aesthetic and overall just looks like a clunky MOC. I guess I'm relieved I can save my money, but zero is coming via bricklink for sure. Lack of Oogie was a bad call.
strangely Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I give them credit, they managed to take an extremely difficult art style and put it into system scale and still be recognizable. This turned out better than I expected.
Chicken Little Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Why is sally using the dumboldore´s hairpiece instead of the one they made for her. Feels very lazy

Feels very lazy It’s a weird choice since A) the piece specifically created for her is still around (it was just used in a Friends set in white) and B) the Dumbledore hairpiece doesn’t exist in dark red yet, meaning it’s actually the more expensive route, unless it shows up in an unrelated set as well

Even though the original piece is still around, they probably don't have that color in stock at the moment, so using a similar piece in the right color that's in production was probably the cost cutting move.
Aramar Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 Last night it was confirmed that the remake of Lilo and Stitch will be released in cinemas in summer 2025, so if the Lego set comes in winter it might be based on the original animated movie and not in the new version. In any case, the remake has basically an identical Stitch design, and the rest of the cast seems to be faithful to the animated movie too. Therefore, if the worst scenario comes true and the Lego set is based in the new movie, the minifigures shouldn't differ too much from the animated versions. On a different topic, Zootopia 2 looks great and I'm begging to get different Lego sets based on this world for next year. Just imagine having sets for the elephant ice cream shop, the police department, the train station, the city itself, little rodentia and all the new locations from the second movie... Please Lego, please!

Bring on the 'classics'... it is always risky basing a new release on an untested remake (remember the doomed clamshell?).

It seems like the Peter Pan/Wendy diorama set must not have sold well enough since we haven't gotten any more diorama sets. A remember a lot of people were hoping for Ariel's Grotto, Kiss the Girl, Beauty and the Beast in the ballroom, Alice's Mad Tea Party, Lady and the Tramp's Bella Notte, etc. all as dioramas.

Which feels bad when you consider how little the Peter Pan diorama had going for it. A so-so build with 2 repeated minifigures (Peter being a downgrade from his CMF version) and an $60 price tag. Wendy was the only real draw but lacked a bow or a better face print. All the other ideas would hold far more appeal given they would include new characters or IPs that had yet to be Legofied.

People were complaining about the price tag for the size from the very beginning. No Michael, John, or Nana. Peter and Tinker Bell repeated from an earlier set that very same year that's much cheaper to get. Anyone who was missing Peter and Tink and wanted them would already have gotten them from the celebration train set by that point. Wendy was the only new figure and it really irritated me that they couldn't even be bothered to include a bow for her hair like the minidoll got. I had to purchase that minidoll online just to get my hands on the bow. It's actually not a bad set at all and it looks nice on a shelf but it needed to be much cheaper. If there was a series of these dioramas that could all connect, I think people would have been more excited about it. But it reminds me about how people thought the celebration train would start a series of future sets with more parade floats that would all connect into one large train but that never materialized either. I think the reason we got a Peter Pan diorama instead of one featuring new characters is specifically because it was cheaper to make a set that would repackage two existing minifigs and only include one new one. Who already had a hairpiece from her minidoll in another existing set. All the other mentioned films would have required entirely new minifigs (although Alice and Ariel's hairpieces would be easy to reuse just as with Wendy).

Fun fact: Wendy and Alice have the same face in the movies.

I didn't buy that set because the only thing I wanted from it was the Wendy minifigure, but spending 60€ for it was too much, so I just bought Wendy alone (and I should buy a bow for her hair too)

hikouki Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 Wicked sets officially revealed. Of course they are all mini dolls. I badly need a Glinda plus a Wizard in minifig form!
JeanGreyForever Posted August 13, 2024 Posted August 13, 2024 HD pics are up for The Nightmare Before Christmas set on Instagram. We can see the interior of Jack's house now. I'm not super well-versed in TNBC but his room looks fairly accurate to what I remember from the movie. There's also the picture of him in his Sandy Claws outfit. There's a better look at the Santa minifigure. Lock, Shock, and Barrel still seem disappointing to me. More like someone's MOCs than official minifigs. 1 hour ago, hikouki said: Wicked sets officially revealed. Of course they are all mini dolls. I badly need a Glinda plus a Wizard in minifig form! I've always wanted the MGM Glinda and Wizard especially now that the wide skirt piece is being used again. The Wicked Witch could also use an update with a skirt piece and a new molded hat with hair and also the ribbon that trails down behind the hat. Would love to see Munchkins and Emerald City inhabitants too.
