Hol’up. I have a theory (if the squirrel is indeed Bd’g/ Ch’p) Bd’g/ Ch’p was sent to spy on Guy Gardner because the Guardians of the Universe found out that he was using his GL ring to work for a private corporation (LordTech). They sent Bd’g/ Ch’p, one of their most decorated Lanterns, because they were concerned that Guy might accidentally or intentionally give Maxwell Lord the secret to harnessing the power of the emotional spectrum. Too much tampering with the emotional spectrum could potentially free either the First Lantern, Nekron or Parallax from a construct prison. Thus causing a universe ending threat. This would be followed up in Lanterns and would explain why that show is supposedly so important for the DCU’s overall story. Did I cook? Edited July 5, 2024 by CloneCommando99 Quote

RedHoodPug Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 1 hour ago, legoturtle said: Please... are we getting Marvel copies from all DC movies? No. Even if that were the case, there is a reason why both companies have teams of superheroes, teams of villains and anti-heroes, teams of oddballs, and analogues of their respective most popular characters. The history of comic books is littered with stories of artists and writers moving from company to company, and as they couldn't take their characters with them they created very similar ones. As well as that there's a long history of homage characters because the original ones are/were very popular. The whole battle lines thing is stupid. The mistake is thinking that Gunn is a Marvel guy. He's not, he's a geek with a keen eye for what works on screen and an ability to turn unlikely characters into fan favourites. The first DC film of the new era features the lynchpin of the company, backed up by what looks like a version of Justice League International. Marvel's lynchpin didn't join the MCU until the main story arc was in full swing. I am hoping really really hard that the squirrel gains possession of a Green Lantern ring, as is the natural way. Maybe the classic suits also show up in the movie People are already jumping the gun(n) though. We can‘t judge a movie while it‘s currently still in production. The rumor I heard is Spoiler The pseudo-JL work for Maxwell Lord's tech company and the antagonists work for Luthor's company, with Superman, you know, being superman and not working for anyone. Which fits with the idea that it's meta-commentary on modern superheroes, but I don't like the idea of starting the new DC universe with it. We have enough of the "ooooo what if superheroes worked for companies that would be bad I think" concept right now and MaxTech or whatever is just going to be seen as a watered down version of the company from the Boys. 15 hours ago, THELEGOBATMAN said: Even more controversial — I don't like The Dark Knight. For me, it's the essence of the boring, uninspired way to approach this character. I hate the hyperealistic climate of this movie, and the fact that it's much more interested in Joker and Two-Face than the titular character. I find Batman Begins and TDKR much more interesting and fulfilling, even though they both have their shares of problems. In my opinion the hyperrealism is the point- they'd tried to go comic-book goofy and it went horribly with the 90s films, so they went the other way around. Instead of trying to fit comic-book batman onto a movie screen, they thought what he would look like in a "realistic" action/crime movie form. And I love it. He faces consequences for his actions- not just in stuff like taking the blame for the Dent murders, but by the end of the series he's more or less physically incapable of continuing to be batman, and retires- one of the only mainline versions of batman to end his story that way. And fitting with the more realistic tone, Batman does what he can and stops joker, but the real heroes of the climax of the movie are just people. I think the two boats scene is the single best example of who Joker is and what he's trying to do I've ever seen. His whole deep psychological need to prove his belief that anyone forced into his position would turn out like him. And the people rejecting his game. 3 hours ago, RedHoodPug said: I am hoping really really hard that the squirrel gains possession of a Green Lantern ring, as is the natural way. -Guy loses ring to squirrel -Superman retrieves ring -post credits teases another ring falling to earth and the squirrel finding it -"Ch'p will return" Quote

I wouldn’t mind, to be honest. Even if it’s a similar concept, there are multiple angles to approach it and I’m sure it wouldn’t be just a pale imitation Besides, this film will have what that show sorely lacks: an actually good-hearted, morally non-ambiguous superhero who isn’t a terrible sack of crap That alone will set it apart! 2 hours ago, Mandalorianknight said: His whole deep psychological need to prove his belief that anyone forced into his position would turn out like him. The Joker slowly realising that people don’t act the way he anticipated is just great, and I particularly love the scene with the big inmate demanding the detonator, only to immediately throw it out the window. Great stuff! Edit: Does anyone know why EB automatically increases the font size if you paste text? It’s been a nuisance for a while now I'm not saying it'd be terrible- while I don't think Gunn is the savior everyone seems to think he is (and IMO he's already proven he can't stick to the hard reboot we needed), I think he could pull off the concept fairly well. I just don't think it's what we need right now to restart the universe. I don't think meta-commentary is the way to go. Totally agree on the Boys though- I couldn't get very far into it, it's just so cynical and shock-value based with such a simple message that it seems to think is really clever. But people act like it's the greatest thing to happen to the superhero genre, so I think it's a bad move to take a similar major concept for the new movie. I wrote a whole paragraph about the big inmate essentially being one of the people to save everyone but I deleted it for space reasons. That doesn't happen to me, but to fix yours in the quote I just highlighted the text and changed the font size to 14, the default (at least for my screen, that might be changeable) Quote

On a more positive note. Apparently James Gunn confirmed on social media that we’d be getting: Vixen, Nightwing, Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) and Static in Chapter 1 of the DCU. BrickBob Studpants Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) Maybe Turtle Man is one step ahead of us and is referencing the very early comics where Superman was only able to jump extremely high, before the authors decided flying works better Because otherwise, that’s one of the silliest movie takes I’ve ever heard, and that’s saying something considering we’re in the aslume here. It’s on par with refusing to watch a Star Trek movie if it’s set in outer space, a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie if Leatherface is seen running around with a chainsaw, a Flash movie where he runs very fast, or a Batman movie where he fights crime. Nolan made an excellent film trilogy putting batman into the "real world" (Or at least the "real world" in terms of action/crime films). He only "ruined" the perception of the character in that DC's failed to make anything around the same quality since then in which batman's put in a more fantastical setting. Quote
strangely Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 (edited) Even at his most 'realistic', he's still a guy dressed as a bat, unable to turn his head, somehow never taking fall damage no matter how hard of a landing he takes after gliding at high speeds, fighting bad guys who at any point could just shoot him in the face. Frankly, the explanation of Superman being an alien and has powers and that's how he can fly makes more sense to me than Nolan explaining that Batman has electric gloves that makes his cloth cape turn into a cartoon outline of a bat and that just so happens to be so aerodynamic that he can chase cars with it.
