Anyways, I have no idea why people are making such a big deal out of this. I'll admit it sounds lazy—the character design is just Penguin with a lipstick (I think making her more chic would be cool), and the name... really, Oswalda? Doesn't even sound like a real name, should've used something like Ophelia.

But then again, so what? Is it really worse than yet another comic-accurate Penguin? He's already one of the most popular and most used Batman villains, especially recently—he's even getting his own HBO series! So I genuinely have no idea why people would have a problem with one out of tens Penguin adaptations being a female.

Comic book fans want comic book accuracy in their comic book show!? Say it ain't so...

I don't get the "it's new, so like it" retort when people complain about accuracy. If we didn't care about the source material, we wouldn't be interested about the shows/movies in the first place. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And besides, it is lazy when there are so many ways around it. Make a new character to fill the same role, or use an established character. Both options still keep things fresh, while respecting the source material.

Writers should get paid to be creative, that includes creating new characters from scratch. But in short, some like it, some don't. I don't get why everyone absolutely has to like everything.

Besides, the biggest issue hasn't even been covered: why is she so big!? Penguin being diminutive is like his main thing.  (I kid)

And yet I don't see you complaining about completely re-interpreting villains like Harley Quinn and Two-Face.

I absolutely hate arguments when it comes to women and people of colour like "just make a new character, stop changing already existing things". Really? Because getting a 14th same-old Penguin is somehow much better?

Comic accuracy by itself has no value.

Harley isn't the topic being discussed, and Two-Face isn't being reinterpreted either. I mean, aside from his scars being on the wrong side, which does bother me.

It's much better to get a new or underused existing character than to reinvent an existing one. Full stop. People have different opinions. Nobody's forcing you to hate the new Penguin, some of us just don't. Why can't we leave it at that?

Also, don't bring up the sexist/racist argument like that means something. Harley's Asian and no one's said anything. She's got a cool new look and different philosophy than usual. Penguin is just, well, Penguin, but female. It is lazy. That's a subjective opinion.

That's an Ivy hideout if there ever was one. Could use some beige and brown bricks for wear, as well as a few vines, and a lot more plants. It's a beautiful model on it's own though.

Definitely could be worked into a DC playset.

Two-Face is, indeed, being reinterpreted—there's a reason his scars are on another side of his face. His two personalities will have a reversed dynamic.

As for Penguin, we can leave it at that.

So his scarred side is his good side? Interesting take. It's a simple idea, but if done well, it could work out.

Part of me wants to point out that's still just Two-Face, but I'll digress.

Gasp! Turtle was the one who altered us to the threat of Brickheadz Joker. So does Clone O’Patra works for Brickheadz Joker? Does this mean all of the Eurobricks moderators work for him too? This conspiracy goes deeper than I first thought….

Oh ofc, that all makes sense. The Eurobricks moderators don't let people stray off topic so they don't find the truth. The fact this thread is up though tells me Clone O'patra is a mole for the resistance and is keeping our posts secret from the other mods

Does anyone have a mind-map or something going of everything we’ve deciphered about the Corn-cob conspiracy? I am starting to think that the people of Lego City are complicit in cannibalism and using dead flesh as bricks. I am convinced that the entire place has to go. Demolition Dummy is hereby authorised full Lethal Force when the time comes.

We don't know how much the people know TBF. The fear is ofc even if they don't know, when they're told the truth some of them may have developed a taste for it and be willing to kill to taste it again.

My theory though is since that old pizza piece was phased out in 2014/15 that that was one of the things the ultra agents did to put them on Corn-cob's radar, they started a pizza company that sells real pizzas made of normal ingredients that are currently more popular than the cannibal ones. This is why all those minifigure meat ones are being sold in Luigi's pizza as the people of the city don't take to them anymore. This could be why BRICKHEADZ Joker is ramping up his plans now as he's beginning to lose control of the people

Though is that a risk we're willing to take in trusting the people, do we have any evidence they did know? If so it may well be time to release the ultimate weapon...

As long as Bruce and Barbara don't Bruce Timm, we should be all set.

Timm repeatedly stated that he won't be going into this territory again. So nope.

Even TLBM did that with police chief O’Hara :laugh_hard:

They also race-swapped the Gordons and Two-Face. And no one complained about that (especially because of Billy Dee Williams, who played Harvey in 1989 but was rejected afterwards, that's why Two-Face looking like him is a good idea)

He's not guilty of any of what you said, he's just stating what usually happens nowadays with these big studios pushing something other than story, there's a pattern going on and it's hard not to ignore it and he also has the right to his opinion so whatever you believe, keep to yourself and let's not insult any side and keep it Lego Aslume Posting

Now that's reasonable.

Bringing up racism and sexism is a cowardly thing to do - that's how Disney justifies their lack of both creativity and respect towards the fanbase. Gender/race-swapping never been a problem for anyone until it was clear that the changes make absolutely no sense and have the one and only obvious reasoning behind them.

...And there is also the fact that NO ONE will dare the race-swap established characters like Cyborg, and if they do - they will be accused of racism. Which is kinda hypocritical

Can we please go back to the Lego canon conspiracy. This culture war discussion is getting tedious.

If you don't want to see something just reply to the posts not talking about and they'll fizzle out. I think everyone's a little guilty of this sometimes but too often we focus our attention on trying to get everyone to do something at once and that leads to no-one ever doing it. If we just talk about our important LEGO Lore and tune out the people arguing over the Penguin it'll fade out in a couple days

Anyways back on topic, while in Billund the to scientists of the anti-corncob resistance have been brewing an ultimate weapon, while the Dummy had almost deconstructed the city on his own before we can't take any risks, especially if any of Brickheadz Joker's forces could strike, so they have developed their ultimate trump card, the Mega-Dummy...

Now the question is, how can they get it into the city undetected

Well that was a development. It's all moot because if anyone remembers what the original topic was supposed to be, they'll know that it's incredibly unlikely that Caped Crusader will realise any sets. However of the three changes presented so far, Penguin being gender-swapped, Harley being race-swapped and character flipped, and Two-Face being scarred differently and his character flipped, I feel that Penguin is the least dynamic change. I would hazard that they wanted to maintain difference between this and the live action Penguin. Having said all of that, I'm not a massive fan of gender or race swaps to a primary variant of a character as a rule. It doesn't seem to happen in any other artistic medium but with comics it's seen as fair game. It always seems like it's disrespectful to the original creators idea. Maybe I'm old fashioned and wrong.

I also find it amusing that Gunn is being criticised for making the Creature Commandos contemporary and a Task Force, when they haven't been written as wartime based for about 25 years and were integrated with S.H.A.D.E. nearly 15 years ago. And also Gunn getting criticised for using daddy issues as a regular trope is to ignore the sheer number of paternity or even maternity tropes in DC.

Yeah, I think a general thing with most superhero universes is a lot of characters are going to overlap, a good chunk of the most notable characters were all developed when crossovers were mainly limited to covers and even those who weren't most comics are done by different teams with little communication past company mandated events.

On the other side of the fence Iron Man, Thor, Hulk are all pretty informed by daddy issues (and 2 out of 3 of those translated into the cinematic versions). It's because Daddy issues are such a broad subject. Hell if we want to go there Cyborg, Batman, Superman and the Flash all had their main conflicts come from 'daddy issues' in the previous DC cinematic Universe, that's most of the justice league.

I don't know much about the Creature Commandos so I can't really speak there but is it really a Gunn trend to make everything a Task force X thing when he did that with the one movie based on that comic and the direct spin-off show where we follow a member of Task Force X who hasn't worked of their sentence yet so is still doing missions? This is the only time he's done this and from the little I do know of them working for government organisations isn't out of left field for them. Though tbf I don't know if they've been shown as criminals in anything else as the implication in the trailer is that they were non-human inmates of Belle Reve

Mid November. That’s when we usually see set leaks.

Can't wait to see Two-Face and hopefully a new Purple Coat Joker and I hope there's a Bat-Pod included but sadly it's most likely a price increase, ''They Can't Keep Getting Away With This!''

It's not that they're just another task force (which is what they were to begin with), it's specifically them being styled after SS and Gunn's GOTG (which is a farcry from the comics' Guardians pre-MCU). He's such a big fan of the Creature Commandos (of all characters...) that he completely rewrites their team history to be the new and improved Suicide Squad.

They don't have to be WWII heroes, granted, but I'm tired of "foul-mouthed misfits become heroes after being in prison together". Literally the last three team projects he's done. SS can't be helped, it's that team's nature. Not entirely true of this group. Why not just make them a modern military unit, like S.H.A.D.E. did?

Penguin will and always be a fat man with a long nose with a limp.

That's a rather bleak perspective of viewing popculture.

This is how this character has been created, so I won't allow any kind of reinterpretations. I don't have a problem with seeing this character across tens of different works, but they always have to stay the exact same way.

Rather boring perspective. We already have tens—if not more—male, limping Penguins with crooked noses. What's the problem with shaking things up, even if just for the sake of it?

Not sure how that contradicts what I've just said tho.

He's still the same, conflicted, dual-persona that he always was. The mirror image of a mirror image, is just the same mirrored image.

It'd be different if, say, Bruce Banner was always angry, and when calm he turned into the Hulk, they're two different entities. Two-Face is literally two sides of the same coin at all times. Saying he's reversed doesn't really mean much. Especially if the scarred side is his dominant side. That's just Two-Face, but noble (he's always been a morally complex character, this is nothing new)

FemPenguin is different than Flipped-Face off the strength that the character will now have a new history, maybe a different, bolder personality (she can go toe-to-toe with Bats, something Ozzy only dreams of), and the dynamic with the Caped Crusader will be different. So it's not fair to compare the two.

At the end of the day, she could be the new Liv Octavius. Same idea but different enough that it works. And Penguin has been characterized differently throughout his interpretations (mafioso, gentleman crook, greedy gremlin), unlike Two-Face, who for the most part sticks to the whole "Duality of Good and Evil" schtick.

Rather boring to say WWII films should be accurate to the period. Why not have F-22s in the Battle of Midway?

Okay, facetious argument, I'll admit. What's wrong with the classics? No one's telling you not to like the new Penguin. We don't have to like it, either.

I think that should be the civil way of thinking, no?
