It's not that they're just another task force (which is what they were to begin with), it's specifically them being styled after SS and Gunn's GOTG (which is a farcry from the comics' Guardians pre-MCU). He's such a big fan of the Creature Commandos (of all characters...) that he completely rewrites their team history to be the new and improved Suicide Squad. They don't have to be WWII heroes, granted, but I'm tired of "foul-mouthed misfits become heroes after being in prison together". Literally the last three team projects he's done. SS can't be helped, it's that team's nature. Not entirely true of this group. Why not just make them a modern military unit, like S.H.A.D.E. did? He was gifted the DCU having pitched his idea to world build. What better way than to carry on with what he began? TSS showed us that the secret service behind the Task Force program — or the driving force behind it — was crooked beyond belief, to the point that the field officer was fair game. Peacemaker took that and made it public while making the eponymous question his loyalty. The desire to do Creature Commandos justice might well have been around for a while, and this ties it to what we already have. It brings in Flag Sr. and makes the plausible change that the creatures of this world would be under Waller's control. Like she would allow these things to be free when she can use them. Their existence as a real team during the war is a stretch, however we know that G.I. Robot served in the war, so it is a reasonable assumption that he could have been a part of the original team, made up of the as yet unseen original members. The original Guardians got their recognition, showing that Gunn isn't afraid of a nod to the past. At least that's my hope. Quote

No. Gunn has said that anything before Creature Commandos and Superman isn't canon. It is very confusing tho. Like, how does Peacemaker Season 2 work? He already confirmed that Season 1 isn't canon to the DCU, but apparently its events are? Like, is it a new series? What's even real anymore? Quote

Basically, you take Penguin, leave the core elements, but change some other ones. That's like... literally every adaptation, of anything really. A reinterpretation. If it wasn't one, then it'd just be the exact same character, and every artist brings at least a tiny part of themselves into a character. I don't really know why you draw the line at "woman." 4 minutes ago, ARC2149Nova said: How does that even remotely make sense? I guess we can just assume that it's somewhat canon. You basically kind of have to pick and choose what fits and what doesn't. The same case as with Daredevil: Born Again. I don't mind it that much tho. It would be awful to waste Cena as Peacemaker, because he's absolutely incredible. I just wish Gunn clarified once and for all how it actually works, what elements are canon etc. Quote

(It's clear we hold different views, let's agree to disagree) It's just a strange choice. Batman has a lot of underutilized female characters begging for the spotlight. Penguin doesn't even need to be in this. To be perfectly clear, if this was, say, Peyton Riley Ventriloquist over Arnold Wesker, nobody would bat an eye. That's all it boils down to. You can claim that's bogus, but it is only my opinion. Can't seem to make that literally any clearer. And further to the original point, I agree that the change doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It will still be a good show. It's just not comics-to-the-screen, and I'm a sucker for the classics (we've never gotten a 100% accurate adaptation of any comic book material, and likely never will). Interestingly enough, we will be getting some deep cuts, character wise, not sure why that thinking didn't naturally lend itself to a diverse cast of pre-existing characters, but it is what it is. All in all, let's look forward to being blown away by the Caped Crusader. (This all feels like a sinister diversion to keep us from uncovering more LEGO conspiracies) Quote
THELEGOBATMAN Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I am incredibly excited for Caped Crusader too. The trailer has swept me off my feet. Well, mostly because it's just an incredibly well made trailer (and I'm a huge sucker for trailers, I love watching them over and over)—but also because the creators of this series have a very clear vision of what they're trying to make, and I love how they have their own take on every single character here. It also just looks fantasic, and with My Adventures with Superman being so fantastic, it's cool to also get a Batman animated series that has a lot of style and sauce. Quote

In fairness the comics depict a team that goes on missions that are better suited to a group of oddballs with plot-useful powers, and I could describe either unit, Squad or Commandos. If the latter prove to do the job without coercion then that's pretty much the difference between them. Regarding canonicity, it could just as easily be like pre and post Flashpoint. He had to draw a line somewhere, and no artist proud of their work is going to try and convince people to ignore their previous efforts. The reappearance of Boomer, Harley, Flag and Waller showed that the film was connected to the previous one, if tenuously. Peacemaker had cameos from the Snyder JL, so that too had an obvious connection. You just have to look at the two, film and series, to know that Gunn loves his work and loved making them. He also showed us that he more than approved of some of the casting decisions, and didn't want to recast when his new vision demanded the characters come back. And let's face it, DC has never been a bastion of clear paths for it's mainstream narratives. Quote

And let's face it, DC has never been a bastion of clear paths for it's mainstream narratives. This last sentence sums it up so well. DC’s continuity has always been kind of a mess. Consider, for example, Silver Age Flash. Pre-Crisis, Keystone City and Jay Garrick were on Earth-2. Post-Crisis, they were always on Earth-Prime. Yet, somehow, the events of Silver Age Flash were canon, Post-Crisis. Or look at Justice League. Post Crisis, Batman and Superman retained their histories, by and large. But Wonder Woman, who was a part of their history, was fresh off of Paradise Island Post-Crisis. It’s the same deal here. Some things carry over. Some don’t. If anything, Gunn is making a cleaner break because most of the earlier stuff isn’t canon. It’s just his stuff, with minor tweaks to remove connections to the rest of the DCEU. Quote

Though it is sometimes- there used to be this guy with a cartoon frog PFP that was "taking a break" after a whole thing about people pronouncing the bad batch's names like Omega does (untah, tick, icko, etc), and I haven't seen him since. I don't see turtle as the type to go "my bad, I won't do it again, I'm sorry"- unless he is trolling, which I still think is possible-, so this may be the last we see of our hero in a half shell. 6 hours ago, THELEGOBATMAN said: I don't really know why you draw the line at "woman." "Woman" isn't a reinterpretation in the same way as what they're doing with Harley, where it's a significantly different set of motivations, different costume, ETC. If penguin being a woman is needed to make some other aspect of the character or plot make sense, then I'll retract my dislike of it. (It won't be. Even if it's like "I'm woman, these rich jerk guys won't see me as one of them", that's penguin's motivation in half the stuff already, just for physical differences instead of gender) As-is, penguin being woman seems to at best be just to make changes for the sake of making changes, which I will always say is asinine logic. If you're showing us this penguin is different by making it a woman, penguin isn't really different in a way that would impact the story- again, I'd love to be proven wrong on that point-, you're just upsetting comic accuracy for no reason. I'll also add- why not an existing female crime boss? They exist in batman lore. Why not use one of them? I love Long Halloween, I'd have been ESTATIC if that image was of Sofia Falcone taking on Batman. (Which, if anything, makes more sense then penguin, who I don't generally like to see in fisticuffs with Batman. Sofia Falcone is a unit. She is someone I could see giving Bats a fight.) The Falcones and Maronis are usually just name drop mob bosses in adaptions, it'd be nice to get their families in the mix. 6 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: It‘s a bit confusing, but from my understanding, neither TSS nor Peacemaker S1 are DCU canon. He got rid of Cavill, a man BEGGING for a chance to do his character justice, someone who LOVES the source material of the roles he plays, because of "clean slate" or whatever, but he keeps all his guys on anyway. It feels like a decision made more because he personally directed and was friends with those guys rather than the right decision for the formation of a new cinematic universe. Quote

Why has Corn-cob been so keen to improve the technology of the LCPD by leaps and bounds every year? Why has he gradually been militarising the LCPD? Why has he been turning Lego City into a police state? And more importantly, why did he shut down the Space Police, ADU, Galaxy Squad and any other planetary defense units without any reasonable explanation. In all of Lego history there has only been one faction that has been as militaristic, ruthless and cunning as Corn-cob has shown himself to be. This faction has slowly been expanding outwards from the darkness reaches of space since their supposed ultimate defeat at the hands of the Space Police and Ice Rangers in the early 2000s. This faction has been known for its covert use of operatives to achieve its objectives which ultimately leads to the total domination of all Lego peoples. Over the past few year’s more and more of this faction’s operatives have become increasingly prevalent. First this faction deployed an advanced robot soldier, then they dispatched their most elite bounty hunter in 2019 but what makes me certain of this theory is that one of their cruisers was spotted in plain sight last year. My fellow Lego Lore Lovers, it has become obvious. Corn-cob’s hatred of the extraterrestrial authorities, his xenophobia to non-human species and most importantly his militant attitude more than suggest that he is in fact an agent of the Blacktron Conglomerate. He has placed Lego City under his control and by extension its citizens so that he can raise an army for Blacktron to aid in their conquest of the universe. He disbanded Space Police, because they had experience in fighting Blacktron forces. It makes too much sense. Deploy the demolition dummy. NOW!! Perhaps he is the embodiment of that is unfun and chaotic about LEGO, sorta of the dark side of the brick. This ties back into the Maelstrom theory I raised a while back. So then, who is the avatar of Demolition Dummy? Perhaps the son of Ole Kirk? (I can’t remember either name right now, apologies.) How much do the CEOs of and the creative teams at LEGO play into this story? Are they innocent bystanders, only names put on a story already unfolding with or without them? Is each and every character the avatars of these creatives? This is getting to be too much for my oh so big head. Quote
