Batman is impossible to become irl, you need to know 127 forms of martial arts, be a billionare on top of that which is the most possible out of all this, be in peak human condition, fight gods and aliens and how can you survive mentally ill serial killers stabbing you everywhere you go ? Those gadgets are not realistic either, you'd probably have to wait 2000 years for something like that to be made possible Bane is more realistic because he's a strong guy who pumps himself full of drugs, plenty crackheads around who get pure super-human strength from fent or crack. They get infected by a Joker venom variant that makes them take on the grin and complexion, but become fuelled by hatred for and determination to kill Batman. In a similar vein to the McFarlane figures, but I'm using the term retroactively here because I consider the Laughing Fish from the story of the same name to be Jokerized, and that was 1978. Quote

(Serious question: Can you even be an ambassador as an immigrant? Since Joker's clearly American, wouldn't it be impossible for him to be an Iranian diplomat?) There are three equally likely options here: 1. Batman is seen as some sort of american symbol, so Iran was like "hey, this would be pretty funny I think" 2. Joker walked in and was like "ok, im you're ambassador now", and as Iran lacks a batman they just kind of had to go with it because they didn't want to risk everyone getting jonkled. 3. Joker was bs'ing about being the ambassador and nobody called him out on it because what are you gonna do, tell Joker you know he's not really the Iranian ambassador? Do you think he cares? 3 hours ago, Renny The Spaceman said: Instead we should discuss set ideas, WOULD a West or Bale SHADOW BOX look better?????????/ No, No, No. Schumacher Shadow Box. 3 hours ago, Murdoch17 said: @CloneCommando99 @Renny The Spaceman Being like Turtle is nothing to be proud of. Sinistereo Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 (edited) I need to rant about the 89 batmobile and batwing sets: I'm so tired of the same set over and over, and I share the opinion of everyone when I say I'm tired of no diverse minifigs. The 89 batmobile set is so annoying to me because essentially a large portion of all lego batmobiles that we've ever gotten have in some part been inspired by the 89 batmobile, so by the time we finally get an official system scale set based on it, it just perpetually feels like the same build from the previous years. The mask piece used for batman in that set doesn't work for this version of batman AT ALL. it is too stylized and animated. I'm happy it looks phenomenal on the 90's animated series sets at least. Speaking of, I think I'll just use that set as my 89 representation, seeing as how that movie directly inspired that show. The blue batmobile to me is more visually interesting to look at anyway. They could have given us more characters/variants from the 89 movie and included builds that referenced Ace chemicals, the museum, the cathedral, SOMETHING to justify the price and make it stand out in the sea of batmobile sets. Sorry for the long rant of a year old set, but it frustrates me so much because Michael Keaton Batman is my favorite. It makes me almost wish that flash set came out because at least the figures would've been cool P.S. even if all my complaints were remedied...the prices still suck 😂 Edited August 15, 2024 by Sinistereo Quote
Coryo Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Looking at the DC sets that are available now, it seems like Lego is largely forgetting about their main target demographic. Ignoring the mech and the buildable figure, it seems like every set is aiming for people who are 30-40+ with nostalgia for the Keaton and Timmverse versions of Batman, which is possibly why they feel safe in randomly adding an extra 30% or so to the price of a Batmobile. I'd like to see more waves similar to their output from 2015-2018, with more sets that aren't tied to any specific interpretation and wouldn't be pricing out the child and teenage audience. Quote

icm Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 (edited) I think it's a reference to the Marvel superhero Daredevil, whose secret identity is a lawyer named Matt Murdoch. I'm not very familiar with the character myself, but he lives in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York and has to stop all sorts of crazy things from happening in his neighborhood. It's nothing against you personally, I guarantee that. Edited August 15, 2024 by icm Quote

I miss this era of DC sets and sets of the era of the Lego Batman 2 video game. I know the Tim Burton and Dark Knight films appeal to most DC fans, including myself, and while I think these darker and bold styles still have a place within Lego, I wish there were more lively sets thrown in the mix with bright colours and the cartoony charm to them. I feel like these older sets worked amazingly with Lego's branding - being imaginative and adventuresome. These sets never suffered from being lacklustre because they never seemed to carbon-copy or emulate DC material or existing Lego ideas. Yes, it took some core ideas, but everything had a unique twist that complemented DC in ways that most fans would not expect. It all felt more effortless than forced, unlike nowadays. Quote

The joke being Murdock (note spelling) pleading for sanity. It made me chuckle anyway. It's a bit of fun. It has nothing to do with the tired trope of comparing autism with insanity. It's hardly a revelation that a member of the AFoL community is autistic, and I would be taking shots at myself were your accusation true, as well as both of my kids. And really, at nearly 42 years of age I've been called insane, mad, weird, odd, from the wrong planet, etc. enough times by friends for me to get the joke. 32 minutes ago, Agent Kallus said: That was was more of mircofighter than a mighty mircos though. There's a priority on inspiration, but it's not trying to 100% replicate something. If you are a fairly in the loop DC fan, you'll find appreciation in taking notice of certain aspects of the set that you may feel connect with existing DC material and I very much thought the same things as you did Sinistereo when I saw this set as a kid. At the same time, it offers new and original aspects to give it a whole Lego twist that appeals for both children and adult collectors. Maybe some people would have preferred a Joker float and an exact replication of the scene from the movie - which is fine! In my opinion though, I enjoyed getting my first ever batgirl and Damien minfigures over building my exisiting collection of Batman and Joker, and for a kid the steam roller had more play opportunities than a float. I mostly appreciate the more fun and cryptic interpretation of the scene over spelling it out. I agree with the "parade float of death" take - it would be very on brand for Joker, and the whole set didn't really leave out core aspects of the scene as already perfectly described. Maybe I'm wrong though and maybe replicating nostalgia perfectly is of more value for the majority, which I absolutely respect and also see the appeal for. I've always preferred subtlety though, which is why I think the later TLBM sets were also fantastic with blending existing DC material with Lego interpretations. Again, you could see the inspiration but appreciate everything being fairly new. Edited August 16, 2024 by TheFriedChimken Quote
