The lego superhero team does have sway on what sets are made. They do seem to be bigger fans of marvel

Honestly how did we even get a dc COMIC cmf in the first place.

Wow, DC CMF gets outed as the Contractual Obligation series. Way to make us feel appreciated, Lego.

"Yeah, we'd love to make more DC stuff but honestly, we just don't want to".

Where are you reading this in the article? The only thing I could potentially be seen as being read like that is the following-

Are there two different teams, one DC and one Marvel, or do you all do everything?

Adam: We do everything. But that's where PR comes in, because I feel that we are in a lucky situation where the models we were working on are chosen according to our preferences. I don't think that they went to anyone else to ask if they can go with the ‘66 Batmobile but me. And this way you get the best world possible because people care for the stuff now.

But I think that's a pretty big stretch. This sounds a lot more to me like "The team comes and asks the designers which of the listed sets they want to do" rather than "the designers choose which models to make". I can't imagine that's how it's all drawn up legally- I mean if you got a big Hawkeye fan on the team I doubt we'd start seeing a ton of hawkeye sets, and that's a minor example compared to different companies potentially making or not making money. If Jerry on the design team liking spider-man more than batman meant we didn't get batman sets, DC would eat them alive in the courtroom.

But even putting the implausibility aside, I fee like the wording kind of makes this clear. "I don't think they went to anyone else to ask if they can go with"- the high-ups already had a '66 batmobile on the docket, they were just finding out which designer wanted to do it.

GUYS! Have you seen the new Batman logo from the latest Absolute comic series? I think we owe a huge apology to the one from BvS :laugh_hard: This looks like someone steamrolled a poor bat! It’s a spiky rectangle!

Let’s hope this one won’t get a minifig. Or a bigfig, with that Bane-like build :snicker: Can’t judge the characterisation or the story of course, but visually… oof.

The middle quote means nothing. "We love comic books, I'm sure we'll get more in the future" =/= "We personally decided to make more". This reads more like a defense against people saying stuff like "the designers don't care about the comics" than them saying they get to choose what sets are produced. It's also just a logic thing- do you think the massive toy company producing tie ins for a multibilliondollar entertainment company is going to have the actual designers deciding what sets get made? Especially if they could choose between DIFFERENT COMPANIES? If Mark Stafford got to decide how many marvel vs DC sets got made, and it was this lopsided, DC lawyers would be frothing at the mouth.

The latter one is him saying he likes daredevil so he squeezed references into the set. If the designers got to choose which sets to make, this would imply we'd have daredevil sets, wouldn't it? If anything this works against the idea that Mark and the other designers are preventing us from getting more DC sets.

Apparently this Batman is a construction worker. So does he throw black bricks instead of batarangs? It would be more in line with the symbol.

Indirectly really. It's more the tone of interview, how great is Marvel? I made a Batmobile! Of course we still love DC, we've used it as a testing ground for several new parts. It just seemed like a very easy, safe interview.

Most of the marvel stuff is from the interviewer asking about marvel sets like the bugle and gauntlet. The designers bring up both the '66 and 1989 batmobiles themselves when more generic questions are asked. If anyone's focusing in on marvel here, it's the guy doing the interview.

Also, why is it bad that they bring up the batmobiles? I actually think it's a good sign that they bring those up so frequently without being asked.

I also don't see where you're getting that they specify DC as the testing ground for new parts? The closest I can find is that they say the 1x3 jumper was made for an (assumably cancelled) justice league set due to high-ups/DC staff requesting a vehicle be able to seat two people side-by side, but that's sort of the opposite- they felt they needed a new part for a request from above for a DC set.

This Batman's no kill rule is only because he keeps missing with the bricks.

This is a license and collaboration. Lego can propose ideas for sets.

Sorry to interrupt the Aslume but...set news!

We got pics of the Icons '66 Batmobile (or as I like to call it, midi-UCS scale), and I actually kind of forgot about it till now. For 150 USD/200 CAD it looks very solid for 1822 pieces, like a UCS set with all the details you'd expect but slightly smaller and more affordable. However, Burt Ward's Robin being excluded as a minifigure AGAIN is probably one of the biggest things holding me back from buying this set on release. First Lego leaves him out from the 2021 minifig scale 66 Batmobile and now this, the price of the 2016 minifigure is just going to keep skyrocketing at this rate. He was the second main character of the show, the Dynamic DUO, having West's Batman without him is just wrong.

And speaking of the new West Batman minifigure, it looks almost identical to the 2021 version but with two major differences. For starters, he has proper dual molded legs again instead of putting the printing on some dark blue legs and it looks so much better now. Now the downside for me is that the minifigure has the new plastic cape that the BTAS Batman had but in dark blue. It's beginning to feel more and more like Lego is slowly phasing out cloth capes for these instead save for a few exceptions, and I don't think I'm going to be much of a fan. Thankfully BrickLink is always there, and it looks like I'm going to need it in the coming years.

I really like the detailing. The red accents look very sharp.

Now, back to Jonkling.

@Renny The Spaceman, what is Demolition Dummy’s relationship with Jedi Bob? Bob is similar to Dummy for being a meme and fan-favourite Lego original character. However whilst Dummy has the power to destroy anything he touches, Bob has the power to create anything he wants with the force. Are their powers connected? Is Dummy a force-sensitive? If so wouldn’t that mean that Dummy is a Dark Side user? Perhaps he’s something of a Grey Jedi? Or is Bob the evil one?

Does Dummy see through the lies of the Jedi?!!

I think the Dummy isn't force sensitive, but I think it goes beyond what a droid would be, I don't think he is affected in any way at all by the force

As I see him the Dummy is a bit of an anomaly, he is an inanimate object not meant to be alive, yet he is. I don't think there's any comprehensible reason why he is, I don't think he was brought to life with magic, or artificial intelligence or anything. I think he just is, which is why his desires are beyond our comprehension. He's a nice eldritch god, he doesn't long for domination or subrogation he just wants to have some fun and make people smile in his own special way.

I don't think Bob is evil, I think he's just a simple guy living through a bad moment in his galaxies history. I guess we can't know for certain until his show comes out but I imagine at somepoint after episode 2 (likely during the jedi purge) he was taken out of the galaxy he's from and placed in another, with most of records his existence being erased to protect him (hence why the various Lego star wars books talk about him the way they do). A good theory could be that Bob was saved from the purge by someone who can travel between realms, and we do know the Dummy can from the BRICKHEADZ Joker ordeal. As for evidence of their friendship there's not much but I do remember first getting the jedi Bob head from a set with him as a construction worker. That could be him in hiding in another theme after the purge, and if we know one thing about the people the Dummy considers friends (the Robot, the Monster Scientist, Max and the Masterbuilders) he does enjoy the company of people with opposite opinions on building as him so perhaps Bob is one of his friends

No Robin!?!?! They can't keep getting away with this!!!

It's a nice looking set, but the large scale isn't really what I go for anyway.

We saw this coming, insane, imagine telling us three years ago LEGO would sooner put Superman and Lex in a set than Robin

Initial impression of the 66 Batmobile is great. It looks fabulous and very striking. However, I'm not instantly familiar with the details of it, and a very quick look at a photo of the original reveals that once again LEGO has messed up on the wheel arch shape. Instead of being a nice smooth curve around the wheel, they have an awful blocky shape that's nothing close to the wheel shape. And now I can't unsee it and it's terrible.

It's the same on the BTAS Batmobile, which was so disappointing. It looks really inelegant.

Made worse by the fact that the 1989 UCS Batmobile didn't suffer from this issue and had pretty perfect wheel arches. Sigh.

Lack of Robin is also such an odd choice. I wonder if it's a licensing issue at this point?

I never said they couldn't. I'm saying it's ultimately not up to the designers what does and doesn't get made, within each license and more importantly between licenses. I know people are sad we don't get as much DC as we used too, but this is looking for a scapegoat. Do you honestly think the designers potentially liking marvel more is why we aren't getting many DC sets? You think that they can go "nah, we don't want to do DC, let's do more MCU", and not only does lego go "oh, ok", but DC's fine with it? This isn't like "oh they're making more sets based off clones rather than the OT", these are competing companies.

Yeah, the Batmobile looks great. Feels like a proper D2C, but it's still pretty well priced. The minifigure seems to be really detailed too.

It's a very nice UCS style set. I wish this wasn't the only type of good set we got now, but that's nothing against this one. Well priced and very solid.

At first, I thought the rumours of the set coming with a minifig were wrong because it took me a while to spot it :snicker: Quite unusual how little they advertise it on the box!

The model looks excellent though

What's just as strange is he seems to come with the 1992 polybag's build? It doesn't really matter in any real capacity, but it's so strange seeing the build copy-pasted, especially when I can't remember ever seeing '66 batman perch on a gargoyle.

I also just love the idea of jonkler or whoever running away, followed shortly behind by a gargantuan batman cradling a pile of bricks in one arm and just chucking them in his general direction.

I never suggested its ultimately up to the designers before you went on this weird tirade because you firmly believe that they have as little influence as possible even though its a collaboration

Furthermore, your constant emphasis on dc's lawyers (also eluded to in your most recent message) is highly strange considering lego is paying dc for the license. Lego does in fact get to choose the number of products made at their sole discretion. Most often, dc's legal side is only there to approve final designs. They do not interefere with the type or number of products made. At most, they might suggest certain sets are made for a movie's promotion but seeing how few dceu movies have gotten sets, if anything it implies they have less influence than you firmly believe.

And since i just quoted the whole message, in regards to the second para again i said designers have more sway than you think, not that they can outight choose which sets are made. Daredevil is most known for his violent netflix show and is not nearly as popular as characters like Spider-man to warrant a dedicated set

Just let them get the Trinity out of the way. DC appears to be cooking with Absolute Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter.

Can’t wait for absolute Family Guy. No family, no cutaways, no Meg. Along with his ex-military partner Brian, he must defeat Glen Quagmire and redefine what it truly means to be a Family Guy.

But I’m even more excited for Absolute Porky Pig and Absolute Kermit

It's insane that bricklink doesn't list the Demolition Dummy pop badge from Legoland but does for most of the other series one characters, it definitely exists but someone doesn't want us finding it...

He'll get one of them, eventually

The only reason he's on the justice league is while trying to hit Boomerang he just so happened to klonk Luthor on the head and take him out
