No, guys, more expensive sets are not better- not if they don't also up the quality/quantity of stuff included- and minifigures are not really the most important part of lego sets. (That last one's a little more subjective, but I am gonna stick with it- at the end of the day, what seperates lego from other brands is the lego system- action figures are already a thing.) Quote

Basically: Sometimes different does not equal good! Example: Tesla Cybertrucks are VASTLY different to anything else on the market. And they suck... Badly. (Who has seen stainless steel rust anywhere besides on this type of truck?) But that's getting off topic, and I suggest we stay on the topic at hand. It is so wrong that many of DC fans don't understand how different and great the set is. I am a lifelong fan of DC Comics and I don't have much interest in that set. The only time I was interested was when someone on Instagram modified it slightly to encompass more popular aspects of the cave. I don't like the Burton films. I think that Jack Nicholson's portrayal of the Joker is terrible, and I don't care for the mystical aspect of Catwoman or the raw fish-eating freak of Penguin. They aren't reflective of the characters that I grew up with and still don't fit them now. The Batmobile is not my favourite but it helped shape the animated version. I hold the same amount of disdain for those films as I do for all this weird language that is clogging up the thread. I would be hugely appreciative of a similarly sized set that was based on a location from the comics, that captured the look while incorporating elements from different eras and boasting a solid minifigure lineup that not only featured previously unreleased characters but detailed ones at that. If we have seen the last of Batman and Batman Returns then I'm happy. If we can get enough decent interest in this theme that people start talking normally again, I'm very happy. Quote

Some reasons why people might not like the set: The setting: The burton films, as much as lego seems to think they're The Spectre's gift to man, don't hold anywhere near the universal appeal that a comic batcave would have. The figures: For the amount this set costs, we did not get many figs, and a siginificant chunk of them are either suits/parts we've had before, or just normal men in suits. The build: Sort of tying in with the setting, this is a pretty dour and generic look for the batcave. Where's the T-rex, the giant penny? Enclosing it in a box also makes it feel much smaller. Quote

Max_Lego Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 IMHO, the Shadow box is a great set, even though I don't like Batman Returns. But it's very expensive. I bought the polybag 1992 Batman and am not interested in acquiring this big set Quote
PsychoBuilder Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 I don't know about the shadow box. I love Batman Returns, and had always wanted sets based on it so I could get the Catwoman and Penguin designs, but when the set was revealed, I really didn't love it enough to buy it. I really think a sweet spot could have been achieved that was much smaller and more palatable, but I don't even know if I would have been particularly interested in it if it were over $200. Quote

It's also very possible the lego counts the 4+ sets separately. But either way, the worst case scenario is that ONE set a year gets dedicated to children in the 4+ age range. Is it so bad that one set a year is one that allows little kids to get introduced to the theme? Yes, it feels worse when we get so few sets, but that's on lego for producing so few, or DC for not having ancillary material for kids to get into, etc. The fact that we get a 4+ set every year, if nothing else, implies that they sell well. Putting aside the fact that this is supposed to be an adult forum and these references have been dragged over from one platform to another and wrung out to the point of tedium, I'll raise you a couple of counter points. Firstly this is a space for fans of Lego, specifically DC/Batman. It's not a space for memes and inside jokes based on a video game that originated on a different platform. By making those jokes more prominent than the regular talk it's not only racking up pages of irrelevance but it's also isolating anyone who is thinking of joining the forum and feels that the language is clique and not particularly inclusive. Secondly it's gone on for so long and become gradually more prominent, so for people like me who aren't interested in the level of conversation found on Reddit, it's putting me off wanting to be part of this chat. The inanity of these in jokes means that if the conversation does go back on track, the jokes will soon derail it anyway. Or to put it another way, it got boring very quickly. Thirdly, and this one is actually personal to me and not something that I believe many people are aware of. When I said before that I struggle with people using the incorrect words for things I'm not being fussy or pedantic. Part of the processes in my brain, be it the ASD or the ADHD I'm not sure (maybe both working in harmony), means that I display a seemingly irrational response to this kind of thing, visceral, emotional and mental. I say seemingly because the response is rational to me. So if you want to say it's not hurting anyone, make sure you know that for fact. I actually hate it, regardless of the subject matter. I got annoyed the first few times, then uncomfortable, but now after weeks and weeks of it I hate the fact that my number one personal sanctuary has been taken over by something that elicits a strong negative response. So like you said, people are allowed to have other opinions. Quote
hikouki Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 (edited) My non-Batman suggestion is the Suicide Squad! Although seeing how violent the movie was, Lego is probably going to stay away. You know what, that unknown $200 superhero set could be the right price point for a modular Titans Tower. After all if Lego did make one it wouldn’t be that big. It would probably have 8 figures. (looking at the Sanctum Sanctorum modular) There are two ways my ideal minifigure selection would go IMO: Teen Titans: Red Robin, Wonder Girl (Cassandra Sandsmark), Beast boy, Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, Kid Flash and Slade/ Deathstroke. Titans (based off current comic run): Nightwing, Donna Troy, Tempest, Star-Fire, Flash (Wally West), Beast boy, Cyborg and Raven. Quote

Yeah, we wouldn't get any direct suicide squad sets. All of the major projects with that franchise have been R/M/TV-MA/what have you. The characters showing up in Batman sets is the most we'll get. Teen Titans SHOCKS me with it's lack of sets. The one widely availible cartoon aimed at kids right now from DC IS Teen Titans Go, and while it's not the most fan-loved, it's weird that lego hasn't tried picking up that cash cow. 6 hours ago, PGBQW said: Not really. It's not "either a 4+ set or a Justice League set", it's "either a 4+ set or nothing". Absolutely on the money. It's pretty clear lego counts 4+ sets as their own thing. If you want to complain about the fact that we aren't getting many good Batman sets anymore, it's not on the 1 4+ set per wave that we get. You can blame it on DC for failing it's movie universe and not having had a mainline Batman cartoon out for a good number of years now. You can blame it on Lego for producing so few sets and making some really weird figure inclusion choices. You can blame it on Paul. You can blame it on kids 6-12 for not looking up from their Ipads and skibidi toilet long enough to see that there are lego sets based on the bat guy from fortnite. One of the only things you CAN'T really blame it on is the 4+ sets, because they're doing their job- a single set per wave that provides a lego batman product for the 4+ age range- just fine. 6 hours ago, RedHoodPug said: Putting aside the fact that this is supposed to be an adult forum and these references have been dragged over from one platform to another and wrung out to the point of tedium, I'll raise you a couple of counter points. So like you said, people are allowed to have other opinions. I can't speak for everyone on the forum, or everyone making the aslume jokes, but I myself am indeed an adult, and given the age of the games, I'd assume a good number of people making the jokes are. Sure, yeah, it's a space for lego DC/Batman. I think people are making the jokes because there ISN'T much regular talk to be had right now about the theme. And at the end of the day- and I am going to reiterate this- saying batman and joker's names wrong isn't actually hurting anyone. As for excluding people, I feel like "oh, they're saying batman terms and names wrong. It's a joke" feels kind of intuitive. I don't think anyone's using aslume jokes to try and keep people out of fan areas. I'm sorry it's putting you off from wanting to be in the chat, but in general I think people have done an alright job including actual discussion alongside the jokes. Sure, there are some posts that are fully Aslume jokes, and maybe those people should try to add actual discussion (which again, loops us around to there not being much to say besides "Wow this new wave is pretty small" and "I hope we get sets for the james gunn films", which in themselves have been repeated alot) I truly am sorry to hear that. I also have medically diagnosed ASD. I sat in the funny room and had the doctors show me pictures of people and ask what I thought they were feeling. I had them do the funny brain scans as a kid where I got to watch movies while they put gel and sensor thingies on my head. I've worked a long time through therapy and stuff, so I've really gotten it down to a hard time reading faces, being good at math, and being irrationally upset by noises. I can recognize that people aren't making more noise than is "allowed". Doesn't stop my from feeling like chucking a rock at my roommate's head when he's on his xbox while I'm trying to work, and I can hear him in my room. Doesn't stop me from wanting to scream when I'm taking a test and there's a guy two rows back chewing on his pencil. I can't stop the world around me from being louder than I'd like it to be. I can control how I respond to my feeling, and I can take steps to reduce the noise for myself. I have a white noise machine, noise cancelling headphones, and a quiet place to go to when those aren't enough. My point being, it's hard to control other people's actions- especially speech, and especially on the internet. You're certainly allowed to not be happy about the aslume jokes, but I don't believe it's rational to try and stop people from making them, just like it's not rational for me to expect the world to become quiet whenever I have work to do. And at the end of the day, the internet is going to be the internet. Just on a general level, I believe it's wise for someone's personal sanctuary to be something they can control. For me, that's my legos, and my transformers. I'll give you another example- I hated it when people were making comments about Sabra in the Captain America 4 set. I was hyped to see an isreali superhero, especially given the events of the past few months, and it spooked me how angry people were. But I can't force other posters to be like "yeah, go sabra", or to shut up about not wanting her to be in the set. They're allowed to feel that way, and allowed to post as such. And, until moderators say otherwise, we are allowed to say things like man and jonkler because we find it funny. Quote
