The whole song is highly questionable. The lady wants to leave and get away from him, but he's not really letting her leave and most likely has spiked her drink. So yeah, it's a horrible, awful song.

Generally I think people drum up a lot of outrage over an old song by changing the interpretation of it, but that line's pretty bad. Even for the time period it seems like it'd have been a crazy thing to put in a song (I mean, I guess a lot of our modern songs have genuinely absurd statements in them but still), so I wonder if it had a different connotation in the time period, like that Batman comic where joker is very interested in making blunders, only he didn't say blunders.

I find it absurd people get bent out of shape about the lyrics of "baby it's cold outside" (a song from the 40s) yet see no problem with a popular song like WAP.
