The part of the dinosaur had no name before that strip, and afterwards, paleontologists decided to name the spiked tail the Thagomizer in the strip's honor. You can read about it more here. Another example of one is the Horrendous Space Kablooie from the strip Calvin and Hobbes, which is now an actual term for the Big Bang. Far side is great, I like how he's created concepts like that and Cow Tools. Did not know about the Horrendous Space Kablooie, that's awesome. 3 hours ago, Renny The Spaceman said: Seems like a kinda random scenario, like imagine talking about how certain Looney Tunes shorts don't hold up "sure the old racist Bugs Bunny cartoons are bad, but if it was between that and porn I'd rather show that to a kid" Like, sure, I guess that's better but not only is it kinda irrelevant to the point we're talking about but also not a choice any human will have to make. It's still bad to play the song for a kid without having a conversation with them about it beforehand, like those Looney Tunes shorts it should obviously be preserved but just have a strong warning about how times change what's considered okay beforehand. Either way, some people did in fact have an issue with WAP, it's why people still bring it up and get mad at it today so this entire thing is based on a false dichotomy As someone who's heard both blasting in grocery stores, lobbies, etc, it's definitely not a random scenario. As for the second part, that's where I draw my issue. You have to consciously be aware of the chosen interpretation beforehand to get a negative meaning from cold outside, whereas the other one is pretty dang explicit. Like plenty of pop and rock songs imply inappropriate activity, but they used to be a lot more of an implication, something that would pass over kids, rather than someone actively overtly singing about their genetelia. 3 hours ago, Swordy said: Okay, but hear me out: Deathstroke in the 2025 Bat-Cave. I'll give him to you as he fits the blacktron vibe), when in fact the Batcave will include Batman, Alfred (all re-used parts), and 3x copies of the BTAS Jonkler. 3 hours ago, Darth_Bane13 said: Thanks, I was re-reading the Darth Bane trilogy when I made my account and so that's all I could think of. Like plenty of pop and rock songs imply inappropriate activity, but they used to be a lot more of an implication, something that would pass over kids, rather than someone actively overtly singing about their genetelia. That is, still, a random scenario. No store is ever gonna need to make a choice between them, that's a false dichotomy. If one played the former they'll probably play the latter. The conversation wasn't about what if a kid stumbled on it, it was about why there's outrage over one or both so in general the "what about the children" angle doesn't have anything to do with it. Also you do not need to be consciously aware of the interpretation for it to have issues. Media normalises things, a romantic song with a character refusing to take no for an answer and the most common shorthand for someone realising their drink is spiked is gonna be something that's understood by most everyone who listens too it. If we imagine a world where there's no backlash to this song, this stuff being portrayed in an uncritical light without any conversation around it would teach kids that the behaviours in the song are okay. As it is there's really no issue to complain about, feels like more dumb War on Christmas stuff. Many places still play it, in the age of he internet you can listen to it whenever you want, and it's because of the conversation getting dregged up every year people are well aware that what's described in the song is of it's time. 11 hours ago, Swordy said: Okay, but hear me out: Dickstroke in the 2025 Bat-Cave. CloneCommando99 Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) Y’know what would be cool? A resurgence in DC x Marvel synergy. Updated amalgam designs (modern Harold Stark would be so sick), JLU vs Ultimates, Marvel Zombies x DCeased, etc… would all be awesome. As for current DC sets… should I abandon all hopes for a GL mech in January 2026? 8 minutes ago, Renny The Spaceman said: War on Christmas I have my entire Lego Arctic Assault division on standby. I think the first book in the trilogy (path of destruction) is one of the best Star Wars books of all time. Rule of two and Dynasty of Evil are good as well, but a lot of the story happens in Path of Destruction since it was originally supposed to be just the one book. At times the sequels felt like they were sort of tacked on. All in all highly recommend though, especially since you liked Plagiues. Quote

Thank you for making me feel the tiniest bit better. I think they could slip Deathstroke into an 18+ set and get away with it, like the Punisher or Blade in the Daily Bugle. My thought on him being included in the Bat-Cave was that they could use his real name instead (sorta like calling Sabra Ruth Bat-Seraph, although I understand it’s not an equivalent situation). See, and Hal Jordan isn’t nearly as cool as Deathstroke, yet he’s been made multiple times. I mean, while we’re on the topic, what’s with the dinky masquerade Hal wears as a mask, anyway? John Stewart is so much cooler. (I’ll give a nod to Simon Baz for commitment to the wrestler aesthetic.) Edited December 13, 2024 by Swordy Quote
