That didn't stop them from making a deathstroke minifigure

Deathstroke was already recognisable from more child friendly stuff though. Teen Titans, Teen Titans Go, Young Justice and multiple animated Batman series.

So I honestly think that’s a moot point.

You should understand that Shadow Box and upcoming Art set costs total about 700 € euros. ... so I would say TLG has not forgotten DC. Could we get more, yes! BUT if there isn't Batman movies, series, animation movies... hey? THERE WON'T BE DC & BATMAN sets...

That is it!

Lego clearly wanted to make a shadow box, a set that would lend itself to being quite intricate. Batman likes shadows. They were also in the middle of doing sets for the Burton films aimed at the people who watched it at the time. Those people are adults. Saying Lego has forgotten DC is too black and white, what they have done is focused on what makes them money. Targeting kids clearly wasn't working as well as targeting adults. DC putting out films and TV shows is not a guarantee of sets.

Appreciated. I think people are way too quick to presume that LEGO doesn't care about a theme in an almost personal way. Yes, there are designers who specifically want themes to appear, making it "personal", but even then, LEGO is concerned about profit. If DC isn't getting sets, it's because they don't view it as viable franchise for full waves based on data. The other side of this (Two-face) coin is that LEGO is also at the mercy of their licensors. For example, not to make this an Indy discussion, but all Thugee products seems to have disappeared from all company product waves for Indiana Jones products last year. That was very likely a Disney/Lucasfilm decision, not LEGO, and no matter how much they want to release a set for the ToD (they had one designed fully designed and a box art), it was not released.

All that to say, if LEGO isn't releasing DC sets, it's not a personal attack on DC fans, or "terribly misunderstanding the market." LEGO made DC sets consistently, and now they don't. If you're making profit on DC sets, you DO NOT STOP LIKE THAT. Simply put.

Well let's all hope MARVEL goes down and fast.

This isn't the solution to this "problem." It's not a see-saw in that regard. Yes, the one Super Heroes team is focusing more on Marvel right now because of viability, but Marvel disappearing doesn't suddenly make DC profitable. DC is profitable or it isn't. Only new movies, etc. could possibly swing that.

He wasn't always a p&do...

The Judas Contract storyline occurred four years after the introduction of Deathstroke and remains a defining moment for him. Forty years later and most people who have heard of him will put that story at the forefront of his legacy.

Incidentally Lego also gave us Tarantula II, noted for her rape of Nightwing having just killed the villain Blockbuster. This subject has been covered before, including several other characters that already exist in brick form.

DC is dark. If you are making sets/figs for DC, then you are likely making a character who has done awful things at some point in their comics history (See the Killing Joke, for one). I don't think that is LEGO's first thought with these so much as what is popular/known. That's why Joker is everywhere despite most people knowing him for him blowing up a hospital.

As I said, we should thank the DCAU and the people who censored it

No. I don't have an interest in Marvel per se, but I am a fan of comic books and respect their history and legacy in the industry. During the Silver Age DC was known as the Distinguished Competition by those in the Marvel offices. Their cinematic output might have bested that of DC but that doesn't mean there's only room for one. They've held the fort with regards to the Super Heroes line, and when DC has a boom period they will be grateful to Marvel. On top of that wishing the demise of a company because you like a different one is childish and unrealistic.

Supposedly so, but that isn't a hard and fast rule. There are Marvel characters with a dodgy past too.

The Joker has the benefit - much like a lot of Batman's earlier Rogues - of being in the TV show of the 1960s, which was family friendly. That came about because of how characters had to be portrayed during the age of the Comics Code Authority, which sanitised everything. Prior to that and after that villainous behaviour was/became worse, latterly as a reaction to the CCA. I could go deeper but this is veering away from talk of sets.

A link to what? I have actual comic books with him in, those are my links.

The Joker™ gets a big laugh from killing, torturing and terrorizing the good people of Gotham City. The character first appeared in the debut edition of DC Comic’s Batman™, in 1940, and has been Batman’s number one adversary ever since.

His twisted, sadistic sense of humor is matched by his creepy clown appearance. With white skin, green hair and bright red lips resulting from a fall into a tank of chemical waste – it is believed it was his disfigurement that drove him insane.

The Joker has no superpowers, just an obsessive need to wreak havoc and an extensive expertise in chemical engineering. He combines both these aspects of his personality by developing lethal chemical compounds. If not poisoning, the Joker takes great pleasure in clown-related weapons, such as deadly hand buzzers and playing cards with razor edges.

With countless television and movie appearances, on top of his extensive back catalog of books and comics, the Joker has become one of the most iconic characters in modern culture. As such, the character features in many action figure toys and LEGO® playsets.

Just saying that in Indiana Jones we have Nazis as evil. In Batman sadistic Joker and others. LEGO is not just kids toy. IT IS SO MUCH MORE!

I... don't know what this is trying to argue (or what it all has to do with what we are discussing), but having a toy with villains who do terrible things in-universe doesn't make it any less a kids' toy. Vader murdered a lot of people in Star Wars canon... LEGO Star Wars Vader mechs are just as much a toy as they were before.

On topic - I think people need to wait it out and see how the new DCCU does and what new sets it produces. For now, they're doing some cool 18+ and some good classic Batman sets, which are good enough in their own right, even if more sets would be nice to see for the theme.

The villains in the Indiana Jones sets have never been explicitly Nazis. There isn't a Joker set that has him doing anything heinous. They don't go out of their way to make adult themes as sets for kids. As I said earlier, the Joker has been around long enough to have benefitted from being a character suitable for children and Lego, like other toy companies, have used that as an in.

Wow, I got excited when I saw the "hot" tag and thought we had some news, but instead it's just ...whatever this is  Can we go back to discussing the actual sets we're getting this year? :laugh_hard:

Is there anything new to discuss? In fairness it started roughly on topic but context was needed.

LEGO makes biggest Batcave ever and people here talk that LEGO is trying to strangle DC & Batman. Really?

And a lot of Man and Jonkler sets. As if there were no other characters in the Burtonverse...
