Ugly? Really? Did you build it?

That box, at least for me, opens the wrong way. It takes up too much space when opened. They could have made the front flip up or down to reveal more play space. The car is redundant with another release. There aren't enough minifigs. Etc. Sad if it is true that it is likely a flop.

You <3 it OR You hate it ... ANYWAY... I want that and also that painting set.

I think you're really biased towards this set, I have it and it's nice but it's not the best Batcave they ever made nor is it one we asked for.

If you watched the VIDEO you understand. It says all there.

I've watched it ages ago and it still doesn't change peoples minds about it.

A BTAS Batcave or a Dark Knight Trilogy Batcave would be cooler

Agreed.

When I first heard that there was a UCS bat cave coming out last year, I was super excited as I was considering all the cool comic characters they could put in it and all the classic relics like the massive joker card Lego could do. It felt like a slap in face when it was revealed to be what it actually was.

NGL Lego was kinda stupid in making it Burton based because they limited not just the market but the creativity they could have had with it.

It says 50 % HATE it - and 50 % LOVE it! .... BECAUSE that BOX design is interesting and a bit sci-fi. Futuristic. And the mechanism OPEN / CLOSED ...

Imagine if it was Comics, we could get the Bat Family and Villains we never got before but no, just Burton based figures with no leg printing and 2 that aren't exclusive parts.

Hush, Spoiler, Batman Who laughs, Dawnbreaker, Red Robin and batwing just to name a few possibilities. Alas lego was ignorant of the coolest parts of DC yet again.

We did get a decent amount of GCPD from TLBM but a lot more clown goons would be cool

Why there is not MOLDS like in SW? For example, Bane and Killer Croc are BIG figures but there could be many more. Greedo for example and 100 others... but there is not any in DC.

A UCS Gotham City kind of like Diagon Alley would be a dream for me, it could include, GCPD,ACE Chemicals,Iceberg Lounge and an underground subway

SW is more popular and requires more new molds than  DC

Requires more? So DC none and SW hundreds...

DC does get new moulds. During the 2014-2018 era, when DC was getting lots of sets, they got a lot of new-designed-for-them pieces. The Darkseid Mould, Hawkman's helmet, Aquaman's (JL) hair, etc.... And then the TLBM happened, with even more moulds and printings. On a more recent note, the new batman cowl is a new-for-2023 mould. DC has enough characters who can easily use pre-existing moulds (Joker, Harley, etc.), so they don't need as many new ones as SW where there are new aliens in almost every movie/show release.

@legoturtle I respect your passion for the theme, and a lot of others care about it in the same way, but at the end of the day, like I said before, LEGO makes what sells, and DC isn't doing that for them right now when compared to other licenses. They still make some cool sets, and if you are in the camp that like the shadowbox, then great for you (a lot of people don't, and that's okay), but you can't expect everyone to like it (the people who have any vague interest have already seen all the reviews, and they are set on it one way or another from those).
Maybe a day will come when DC becomes incredibly popular again in the mainstream media, and maybe Superman will do that for them, but until then, until we get any inkling that LEGO is even doing sets for that movie (whatever thoughts are on whether they should or not), anything about wanting new moulds, etc. is just wish-listing to some extent, and that hasn't been worthwhile for LEGO DC in years.
I don't even care that much about Batman, and I want this theme to come back. I want a solid D2C comics Batcave to get and enjoy for fun. I want more sets for this license, but I'm in the camp of people (in this forum and otherwise) who have come to terms with DC being what it is for now, and just waiting and hoping for something better eventually.

I have said many many times here. If we want MORE DC SETS - we need more movies, tv series, animation movies, even games and other toys.

BUT anyway... I have to look more carefully LEGO DC history trough Brickset Database.

I’m hoping that Lego would be as aggressive in their support of the DC theme as they have always been with the SW theme, and recently of the Disney theme.

For ages, minifigs under Disney were hard to come by. It seems as though Lego has been adapting more to the market with their recent themes - they just gave us a classic Snow White cottage, which would have been unheard of two years ago. Royal clamshell was a flop, yet Lego didn’t stop there. LOTR got resurrected, etc.

We can only hope.

It seems to me that TLG treats Marvel better than DC. More different, better detailed minifigures with unique moulds, bigger and better quality sets, more small sets...

They go where the money is. They've tried a few themes over the years that they clearly hoped would be winners but ended up failing as a franchise. Marvel is currently on top in terms of media popularity which is why Lego is keeping the line well stocked. Nothing like SW, but not many things seem to be. Things come in waves and I wouldn't be surprised to see people bored of Marvel before long, and with any luck (at least for me, I'm not wishing doom on Marvel here) DC will pick up the ball and run.

Yes, that's right. I just feel sorry for DC... They failed creating their own cinematic universe, so here it is... TLG doesn't really care about good old classics...

look man, no one's saying you shouldn't be allowed to like the set. There's a lot of subjectivity with this stuff so at the end of the day it's what you want it to be.

But on a more objective level, it doesn't seem to be doing well. Not enough people like the set like you do.

BTAS/DCAU, certainly, but Dark Knight Trilogy? I mean, the movies are much better, but I really don't think the batcave would be a better set. You've got either a pretty generic and empty Batcave, or literally just a white box with a Tumbler off to the side depending on which movie.

I think a lot of people were hoping for a comic-based batcave that could feature a lot of the iconic batcave features and characters. As an example of a potential idea:

The Batcave ($399.99): Batcave build consists of a large central area with two wings that can fold in. The central area has room for a batmobile and a couple motorcycles below, which can be moved out for a training area. A staircase on either side leads to the massive central bat-computer. One wing contains a row of racked batsuit cases on the second level, with an armory and vault below. There is a perch for the 2023 batwing to sit as well. The other wing contains a trophy room- giant penny, T-rex, and various villain momentos. Figures included are Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, Batman, Nightwing, Red Hood, Robin (Tim Drake), Robin (Damian Wayne), Batgirl (Barbara Gordon), Spoiler, Orphan, Signal, Azreal, Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, Lucius Fox, Joker, Harley Quinn, Riddler, Mr. Freeze, Bane, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, Hush, Failsafe, and Clayface.

Oh man this Bat-family extended itself!.. I know some like the idea, but for me it's too much...

BTW, how about a set based on the "Wayne family adventures" webcomic? Isn't it a good idea?

But what better place to put the full bat-family than a massive comic batcave?

I view it as echelons. You've got the core- Batman/Alfred/current robin, then you've got the other 3 main robins and Barbara Batgirl, then you expand outward with Orphan, Signal, Spoiler, and debatably Azreal and Catwoman. Personally I cut the bat-family off at Batman/Alfred/4 robins/Batgirl/Orphan, but I thought with a set like that no reason to throw more in. Besides, Signal looks cool and I like the idea of a daytime operator.

Right now, lego DC is ONLY the good old classics- TDK, Burton films, BTAS, '66. Assumably because they think being generally well-regarded media, it'll do better than the newer stuff that's generally not liked as much. Though I'm not sure it's working- the Burton batwing and batmobile are shelfwarmers around me, and while the Shadow Box isn't something you can pick up at your local Walmart, it sounds like it's not doing well either.
