So how many sets can we actually expect for Superman next year. And how much will they pale in comparison to Brave and Bold sets (if DC is even still a theme at that point)

1-3 is typical for super heroes sets coinciding with a film’s release with Avengers films and The Batman being the only ones to get more. DC typically has their releases skipped entirely, but, then again, this is Superman who is still (arguably) the third most recognizable superhero and the launch of a new universe. I think 1 is a safe bet but wouldn’t expect more than 3. And I wouldn’t count on any massive sets like the Sanctum Sanctorum.

Why not? This is Superman we're talking about. He's the one DC character besides Batman who could carry a D2C set, especially with the hype of a new movie backing him up. If Lego were willing to take a chance on giving a modular building to Doctor Strange, why couldn't they do the same for a character you yourself said is still the third most recognizable superhero?

I still stand by that next year's D2C will come down to either the Daily Planet or the Baxter Building. Even if Marvel is in a better place than DC is at the moment its safe to say that Superman is still far more popular and iconic than the Fantastic Four are.

The Sanctum wasn’t strictly a tie-in to Dr. Strange. It also served as a tie-in to Infinity War, not to mention it featured heavily in several other MCU films. It’s a safer choice than making a modular for a film that may or may not do well.

The sanctum wasn't just a doctor strange set, it was an MCU set, before the effects of the MCU's quality drop were felt by lego. It was even partially based off infinity war, one of the biggest movies of all time. It's not really comparable to if they did a Daily Planet set for Superman 2025. And even then, the Sanctum and Batcave are both allegedly retiring before the Bugle, despite releasing long after it, indicating neither sold nearly as well.

This movie is a test to see if superman retains the cultural power he used to have. The superman name might still carry enough weight for lego to do a few sets for the movie, but they won't do a modular unless this movie does avengers-level numbers.

Sorry but I'm not buying that. I remember this same conversation occurring with the X-Men just over a year ago with members here trying to convince everybody else how a D2C X-Mansion was never going to happen. Just about every excuse in the book was thrown out about why it was such an unrealistic prospect.

"The old sets never sold!"
"X-Men aren't popular anymore!"
"The last movies flopped!"
"Lego won't touch the X-Men until they get a MCU reboot!"
"Lego will never make a D2C set based on a kids cartoon!"

Yet here we are with an X-Mansion set on the way later this year. Its moments like this where I like to keep an open mind towards the future rather than writing everything off as "If its not MCU/Batman/Spider-Man it will never happen!!!"

Plus we're talking about the Daily Planet here. It doesn't need to rely on an appearance in one of the biggest movies of all time like the Sanctum Sanctorum to justify making a set of it. Its as ingrained in pop culture as the Batcave is. Everybody knows what the Daily Planet is. Everybody knows where its from. Even those who have never even watched a Superman film.

True, but that doesn't mean they'd want it. (Or the Batcave for that matter.) Especially at the prices LEGO's charging for everything these days.

I give you that there's a certain target group of comic book fans who'd go "Daily Planet? Sign me up!" no matter how the movie does or even if there is a movie. But you're talking about the much larger casual audience here. If I don't care for Superman, why would I pay hundreds of Euros for a LEGO model of the place where he works?

I guess LEGO feels that there are enough X-Men fans out there to warrant an X-Mansion, the important word being "fans". Similarly there's enough Spiderman fans to warrant a Daily Bugle. But again, you need enough Superman fans for a Daily Planet, not just people with general knowledge about what Superman and the Daily Planet are. A well-received movie can certainly help with that.

Not necessarily for a polybag per se, but Black Adam, Heatwave, Mad Hatter, King Shark, and Raven are all at the top of the list of DC characters I’d like to see in Lego. I’m actually surprised we haven’t seen them yet given the amount of exposure they’ve all had in recent years. You can’t tell me Batman fighting a giant shark man isn’t going to appeal to the average 6-10 year old. After that, it’d be Zatanna, Spoiler, Mirror Master, Golden Glider, and Weather Wizard rounding out the top ten.

I agree I'd like to see Black Adam, Mad Hatter and King Shark, but my point at large is that this theme would do good with an exciting poly bag. Martian Manhunter, Plastic Man, and Trickster were all super exciting. Whether it's through a new book, movie or video game, I'd like to see Lego release a promotional figure that is not a Batman variant. Of course I'd still like to see sets with new designs, but something affordable and attainable that adds depth to our DC collection is a current craving I have from this theme. But to be honest they do so little with this theme, there's all sorts of wants I have lol.

But for once I have something to be excited about! This Gotham Skyline is incredible!! I was certainly not expecting to enjoy this set as much as I am. Thought it would be an easy pass actually. But no, this is stellar. Firstly, it's actually super practical. It's interesting because it is and is not mini figure scale, depending on your perspective. Of course up close it'd be considered micro scale, but when displaying the figures at a reasonable distance in front of the mural, it actually makes sense? it's a city back drop, so it actually does serve a purpose for figures by being, well a back drop! The details are exciting and dare I say cute? And who thought Catwoman would excite me this much? Such an exciting and necessary addition to the Selina Kyle variant library. What's interesting about Harley is I would look at her old figure and feel like something was a bit off, and its striking to now realize that her head should never have been completely white. The red and black on her head do wonders for accuracy. She looks really good.

Also, just a personal opinion but this is THE best Joker figure we have ever gotten. Lego has given so many characters both in and out of this theme quite cartoonishly kind and happy, that it's refreshing to see a figure have that genuine sense of creepiness, eeriness, malicious demeanor this figure has. He is so accurate and really pulls me into memories of the animated series. He looks just as creepy and evil as a Joker figure should. His color scheme is also refreshingly pastel and softer than traditional Joker figures. I almost feel like I'd get this set just for him, but I know that's not true since its a very well rounded set.

I'll shut up now but I'll finish by saying Batman is funny in that he is the ugliest figure of this set, he looks cartoonish but not in a way that's accurate to the show lol. His printing Is quite nice but yeah, I hate this cowl mould. Maybe it'll grow on me.

I feel the Bugle was groundbreaking in that it was modular style, it contained many minifigs, and included characters we never expected Lego would make.

Ditto. Ditto. Ditto.

Plus all BTAS characters on the stickers in that Gotham set.

Could there be Batman in upcoming Superman movie?

I believe Gunn has already shot this down. But, even if he is in there, it’s either a surprise or a quick cameo, and we probably wouldn’t get him in any sets.

Looking at the mini Batmobile in the skyline, I'm curious do we think the Batmobile set will be black or dark blue?

I'd prefer the latter personally, just for a little variety in the otherwise mostly black Batmobile lineup

Wonder if they’re just gonna reuse the minifigs, or there will be an exclusive one.

Well, Mr. Freeze should be the exclusive minifig.

A dark blue Batmobile would be an interesting decision

Has anyone found or made a list of all of the character silhouettes in the skyline?

In this picture I see Robin, Batgirl, Alfred, Riddler, Clayface, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, Summer Gleeson, Penguin, Gordon, Montoya, Bullock, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Ra's Al Ghul, Harley, Ivy, Condiment King, Clock King, Joker, Bane, Killer Croc. Arkham (and possibly other?) buildings are covered, but elsewhere it looks like Mad Hatter, Baby Doll, a third figure (I think someone said Lock-Up?) are all in there.

Is there anyone I'm missing? I'd imagine that Man-Bat is probably here somewhere. And Phantasm should be since the survey leak indicated she was going to be a minifigure. It makes sense that she would be referenced in the set somewhere.

Also: hopefully Mr. Freeze's silhouette is an indication that the minifigure in the Batmobile will have an accurate dome. I really don't like the spherical helmet for him.

Besides the printed Batman, and the Gray Ghost poster, there are 30 characters hidden throughout the set, 3 of which are represented using bricks alone. You'll have to be fairly familiar with Batman to be able to name all 30! Good luck and please let me know if you can name them all

I was wondering the same thing when the skyline set was revealed :classic: I sure hope so! A bit of colour is more than welcome in a sea of mostly black and sometimes very dark grey vehicles

Oh boy, Here we go again! @legoturtle One of those is things is not like the other. (Ex: They aren't even the same Batmobile, not even close!) Also, unless you work for Lego you can't say with 100% certainty what we will get.

There was blue animated series like Batmobile in the Art set. AND now we are getting a Batmobile from the animated series.

It might be this one?

These images don't prove anything! The micro Batmobile from the Art set may be a proof, but not 110%...

I hate to post stupid pictures here, but THIS is the Batmobile from BTAS, not some stupid toy:

It is THAT car, but apparently the color isn't exactly consistent.
I do, however, agree with those feeling it should be dark blue. I've always remembered it being that color, and not just 'cause of the toy Batmobile I had.

Rumors is there’s a Teen Titans film in production. So we might finally have a shot at actually getting a proper Raven figure after she was skipped back in 2015.

Wasn’t there a Raven minifig from Dimensions???
