ASLUME (formerly Batman (DC Superheroes) 2024 - Rumors & Discussion)

Yes. I agree 100 %.

An example. BTAS Batmobile. Box art could be more creative. Some say Mr. Freeze could be more complex. Maybe so called "earth blue" is not dark enough. Where is the battle? Story of the set? (those point are fine with me).

BUT look carefully how well the vehicle has been designed. For example that part where batman sits. Those stickers, how the NEW rubber gate fits behind figure. How batman shows inside of the car and how smoothly cockpit / windscreen opens. It is fantastic that you don't have to take windscreen off.

...

BUT we are going circles... where is those new batman movies. For example LIVE-ACTION version of 1989 Batman. Secuel. Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman.

@Agent Kalluswhile the build creativity is undeniable, you did touch on the particular aspect of creativity that rankles the fandom more. If the overriding part of what makes the theme popular is the characters, then the less likely you are to see a satisfied fan base when that is being ignored. Yes we've had cinematic versions of Penguin, Joker and Catwoman, but the character roster remains largely untapped. Keeping it Batman could still work. The jolting line of Batmobiles could still work. There would be three things I would change to make the line work:

Firstly I would enforce consistency and relative uniformity by making the lazy Susan and display plaque a fixture, rather than an afterthought and keeping them in a tight price bracket.

Secondly I would draw inspiration from Corgi and Eaglemoss, and extend the range of vehicles to more than just on screen Batmobiles, including the likes of the Mothmobile.

Thirdly I would make use of the incredible roster of heroes and villains in Gotham, mixing up new with updated versions of old, and presenting different Batsuits when Batman was included. Vary the number of figures depending on the intricacy of the build as well as to keep it fresh. Also consider a relevant side build if the vehicle isn't that big.

Additionally I would keep the play feature aspect in place in a manner similar to the B:TAS model and make them removable so the display aspect can be retained.

As a concept this could be kept interesting and fresh by rotating the choice of vehicle, so that it's not a continuous slog of Batmobiles interspersed with random villain car #4.

That's one thing that I've thought of that will appeal to set collectors, figure collectors, and kids. At the moment what we have appeals to rich people who have a lot of space and a hankering for mainly cinematic nostalgia, young kids, and folks who really like the idea of a world inhabited by two antagonistic people travelling through time.

I'm going to agree with the turtle here.

If we accept that the DC theme has been laid to rest for the time being and replaced with a Batman theme then they have been more creative now than ever. ( especially if we remember that the Lego Batman Movie was technically a different theme)

Yes being creative here doesn't always mean the sets we want ( standard system waves with sidekicks, more Villian variety and the occasional non-batfam heros) but things like the shadowbox, the batpod with batman figure and Gotham skyline and even the accommodation to hang the system scale Keaton batwing on the wall are all example of TLG flexing their creative muscles and trying new things.

It just means we aren't getting new characters which of course is one of the main things we want from a character based superhero franchise but don't pretend that just because it does really scratch the itch for us that it's creatively bankrupt or anything. The 8 in one curiousity is more proof that they're trying different things here, we might not want them to, we might rather they stuck to the old fig scale batman+ random other hero Vs Villian with the occasional Batman free set.

Granted, I think some of these high-value collector's sets based off old IP are creative and unique. I think these sets would land much better if LEGO also offered the alternative of normal system sets that don't cost hundreds of pounds and based off the wider DC universe.

Perhaps staleness is a better term to use than lack of creativity.  I have lost count of how many Batmobiles, Batcycles, and Batwings have been released since the dawn of this theme in 2012.  For example, there is no way to argue that this wave from last year has any freshness in it:

I can’t believe it but i’m actually going to defend Turtle here. At least he’s keeping this thread alive when the DC theme is potentially, from the looks of things, on its death bed. At least he appears to have a great passion for Batman. (Albeit he does so at the expense of ignoring other great DC characters.)

I actually sort of admire him for being happy with the very little amount of sets we get. A quality I lost a long time ago. (I think it’s due to the lack of quality DC gets compared to that of Star Wars, my primary Lego theme, at the moment.)

On another note… what variants/ adjacent sidekicks of the main Justice League/ DC heroes would you guys like Lego to make in the future which they have not done? Here’s mine:

Batman: Thomas Wayne Batman (Flashpoint)

Superman: Yellow Lantern Superman (Injustice)

Wonder Woman: literally any of the Wonder Girls. (My preference is Cassie Sandsmark)

Green Lantern: Kyle Rayner (I don’t care whether it’s his OG, White Lantern or Fusion suit. I just want him.)

Flash: Wally West (Rebirth)

Aquaman: Tempest (Rebirth)

Cyborg: Grid (New 52)

Robin (he’s iconic enough by himself to have his own category): Red Robin (New 52)

So many Batmen to choose from, but I'd my little English flag and say Knight and Squire.

Superman's first appearance would be nice, as it was clearly on the cards for a potential Series 2 CMF.

Donna Troy's Troia suit would be well received.

The OG Kid Flash outfit.

Guy Gardner all day.

Both the original and most recent Aqualads.

At mention of Grid I'd have to add Deathstorm

For Robin see Squire above.

The last new character we had was Bronze Tiger in the Bat Truck. That was four years ago. The TLBM line was 2017 to 2018. That was the peak followed by a fairly swift decline. No one denies their existence, but it has been a very long time since we've had that good fortune.

Surely technically the last new character was Max Shrek?

Same. It's not like there's much else to talk about, anyway.

I think my biggest gripe with the figure selection right now is as simple as the lack of Robin. Even if the theme is no longer DC in general and only batman, Robin needs to be included.

Yeah I noticed that too. Probably has something to do with the fact that none of the sets were formally revealed (or even leaked!) when the reviews were uploaded. Miscommunication between Lego and LAN perhaps.

(Yes! I notice that today 27.4.2024. Very weird. No VIDEOS anymore). BANNED!

...

We have not get that and that character for years?

Don't you understand at all how LEGO works, movie business, toy markets??? ... How they work together. We had for example The Batman (2022). This time they focused 4 characters:

- Batman

- Catwoman

- The Penguin

- The Riddler

And then there are supporting characters like Alfred, Gordon and Falcone for example. Those 4 characters got LEGO minifigures. Penguin is exclusive in (76181: Batmobile: The Penguin Chase). Then Riddler for example is also exclusive... (76183: Batcave: The Riddler Face-Off). So my point is that those 4 characters could have been for example:

- Batman

- Robin

- White Rabbit

- Enigma

.................................................

That is hard reality. BUT we have to understand this:

2005: Scarecrow

2008: Joker, Two-Face

2011: Bane

Also many others BUT in bigger role. Main role. Then it took more than 10 years? AND we got The Riddler and The Penguin.

------ So the QUESTION is from 2005. How many LIVE-ACTION appearances... yes in about 20 years there have been? For example... Black Mask, Dead Shot. Well there are other movies also. Like terrible movies from Harley Quinn. Or The Flash were only good parts were when Batman was on screen. BIG BATMAN MOVIES. How many in 20 years? How many movies!? How many appearances / character?

Even putting that aside, eurobrick's whole "only adult users" thing is like the age range on lego boxes- a suggestion they can't and don't really try to enforce. I may or may not have been like 14 when I joined, and I remember people literally talking about how they were 13 or 15 in their posts (I vividly remember some 13 year old heavily arguing that the platform they time travel from in Endgame should be a set).

I've got to be honest I struggled to decipher this, but we have Deadshot. It seems like your trying to push the argument that Lego DC has only been based on live action media, which is an odd thing to say.

My point was that those characters which we see in movie we get in LEGO. Almost all of them. NOW in 20 years there have been 4 main Batman movies. You are waiting many characters? BUT it is impossible.

We had TLBM in 2017 where in movie was many different characters and LEGO made ALL of them.

We’ve been over this before turtle: Godzilla, King Kong Kong, Sauron (well technically we’re getting him this summer) and the Gremlins are all characters that showed up in that film and didn’t get any minifigures.

It’s come to my attention that we’ve been sane for almost 3 days now (well everyone except Turtle). No mention of Luigi’s Pizzaria. Shall we keep it this way and forsake jonkling when we are in between news?

Nah! Who else wants a minifigure of this beautiful Man?

There is a gulf of difference between a live action film that Lego chooses to make sets for, and a film that Lego had a hand in making with the express intention of making sets and figures to market it.

It's not a guarantee that if Lego makes sets for or inspired by a film that all of the characters will get made. The production of future sets depends very much on how the film is received, which is why Aquaman and Shazam ended up as side characters in Batman sets. We didn't get Suicide Squad sets for much discussed and obvious reasons, but we did get sets that featured Killer Croc, Katana, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot. However they were very much in the comics style.

Lego made several sets that were comic inspired and gave us quite a few new figures. They have made figures to tie in with the animated short films, but they are very much in the comics style.

We didn't get all of the characters from that film. Samurai and Gleek are still very much missed. The only Phantom Zone villains that were made in conjunction with the film were the Wicked Witch and her flying monkeys.

B:TAS is my favorite Batman ever, I like the batmobile, but it's waaaay overpriced. Why would anybody spend 60 bucks on this? I thought the 89 batmobile was a bit expensive, but this is just insane. Also that Freeze just looks unfinished and cheap. I still cant believe we got actually sets based on btas. Shame its like this.

Completely agree, he's obviously core to the series but also it's such an intrinsic part of playing Batman when you're a kid. Kids need to fight over who gets to be Batman and who has to be Robin

Well I can't choose one, each one is equally amazing all at outstanding prices.

It reminds me of an idea I had earlier when someone suggested a Luigi led secret six. He should recruit Polka dot man to his team, only instead of having a costume full of colourful dots he could rip off to do various tasks he should have an updated suit where every dot is a mini version of one of the variety of remarkable flavours of Pizza available from Luigi, he goes across Gotham offering free samples to get people hooked

Ok. How do you feel this BIGGER models like: Tumbler, 1989 Batmobile, Batwing? Because now we are getting BIGGER model from Batpod. I haven't seen anyone of being happy for that set?

Hey I know you're just a spammy joker on here but this CMF released in 2018, which is 6 years ago.

For custom figures, I'm sure a lot of people have a couple in their collection, but for the most part the official figure is the best.

Btas Batman is one of the most beautiful figures released this year, wish we got Robin and Two-Face though.

People are saying the Batmobile will cost $60 which is beyond insane to me as I already thought the $48 one from last year was really pushing it.

Love the mech, but wish the Batman's figure was different, even just this one repainted.

Really hoping we get Batman Forever sets in the future.
