I wouldn't go so far as to say Batman is in decline, I think it's due to bad set choices, A wave like 2006-2008 or 2012 would do well

If they want to see better profits from Batman then they should focus on BTAS,TDKT and Comics, lots of potential with those, Batpod,Bane's Tumbler,Joker interrogation diorama with a new Bane,Two-Face and Catwoman, BTAS Batcave,Comic Batcave, UCS Arkham like the games, The Batman 2022 UCS Batmobile, Batman VS Superman Batmobile on stand like the 66 or BTAS one and many more, whoever is coming up with those choices is to be blamed for the lack of sales for Lego Batman

This 100%. Lego's poor set choices are to blame.

Hell, we could get 100 Batman sets for all I care, as long as we get a variety of characters along the way. The early sets found a great balance. We got basically the entire Justice League before they even got any sets. Nowadays, every set is the same three to four figures: Batman, Joker, Harley Quinn, Riddler. Maybe the occasional Batgirl or Penguin. C'mon Lego!

More BTAS sets would be amazing to get, especially if it could lead to the DCAU as a whole. I don't dare raise my hopes for The Question, Vigilante, or Shining Knight.

Watch Aquaman, Shazam, The Suicide Squad, and Superman. They all better than anything with Batman (and it’s not even close.)

Figures that the only good thing Batman related was stolen from the far superior Lord of the Rings franchise. They tried that last year with Flash and it backfired spectacularly. DC should have taken the hint that nobody wants Batman anymore.

You're joking, right? Like you actually can't think Batman, arguably the most popular DC Superhero of all time, next to Superman and Spider-Man, is suddenly old news. Also, Superman isn't out yet, though I suppose that part actually is a joke.

Hmm...? How many of these have you seen. Is there more than 2-3 that you like!? Which are QUALITY movies...

2018
Aquaman

2019
Joker
Shazam!

2020
Birds of Prey
Wonder Woman 1984

2021
The Suicide Squad

2022
Black Adam
The Batman

2023
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Blue Beetle
Shazam! Fury of the Gods
The Flash

2024
Joker: Folie à Deux

2025
Superman

Got a set, (wish Mera wore green like the comics but oh well)

Rated-R

Nothing really set worthy, but we did at least get him in a Batman set (screw you, SDCC! )

 (Did get a set which was okay, Cheetah was awesome)

Rated-R

Meh. Could've gotten a Tower of Fate, instead we got a (redacted) hammer... :hmpf_bad:

Got three sets. Good figures. Okay set designs.

Nobody cared because of legal reasons

Flew under the radar, basically Blue Shazam.

Why would the sequel get a set before the first movie? I'm sure it has happened, but it's not common. Also flew under the radar.

:laugh_hard: No. The one set we could've gotten was shelved faster than the Overwatch mech.

Rated-R

The next likely three set outing. Superman movies always tend to get a few sets (MoS, BvS, JL), so there's some hope there.

PLEASE look numbers AFTER Aquaman...

https://www.the-numbers.com/movies/franchise/DC-Extended-Universe#tab=summary

ok, probably those numbers are not final...

... for example, the suicide squad:  ($746.8 million)

Poor marketing and crappy screenwriting will do that.

I think marketing was the DCEU's biggest problem, that and trying to compete with Marvel vs just being their own thing.

Add to that tonal inconsistency, lack of continuity across films, plus actor shenanigans, and you have the above.

Look at the titles. No Batman mentioned after Batman v Superman. Clearly WB realizes audiences do not want anymore Batman. Hopefully Lego will follow suit soon.

Maybe they will even start taking away people’s Lego Batman sets. We can only hope.

The Batman (2022)

(The film was a commercial success, grossing $771 million against a $185–200 million budget)

And Lego made sets for it. But that was two years ago, surely Batman is finished now. :sarcasm_smug:

I wonder how Blue Beetle sets would've done. I mean, we already have a Blue Beetle, which may or may not have been a factor in getting a tie-in figure at least (compared to Shazam, who only had the Comic Con figure prior). Yes, I'm aware how little sense that makes, but we did get Suicide Squad members back in 2016, and Bronze Tiger close to the release of The Suicide Squad (a year early, but still).

There's always the Disney excuse, aka Warner Bros might be dictating to Lego what they can actually cover in sets right now. They may be holding off on authorizing anything major until the brand's back in style. Which is a lot of faith to put in James Gunn, but I digress.

It didn’t make a billion like the last two did. Aquaman made more than double Batman. Audiences are tired of Batman and it shows.

Not just that, Batman is tired of audiences, he knows we're watching and he thinks that gives his an enemies a chance of using it against him if they find out. If he knew about this thread he'd send the Robins to shut down eurobricks.

I've not seen this one yet. But because I'm naive and optimistic I believe that it's almost a foregone conclusion that it's gonna be good.

Absolutely, massively hyped for the Joker 2 wave of sets. I love the gimmick where the sets based on his fever dreams are empty boxes with instructions to hallucinate the set.

Right, you're a more recent active member to this part of the forum. This thread became the Aslume... I want to say around the time the 2023 summer wave turned out to be three separate bat-vehicle sets with batman and joker only. Our Turtle friend showed up this year to hasten the decay. Almost nothing said here anymore is real. I believe @psqidexslizer was just having some fun with turtle's anti-superman opinions.

I'm leeching onto this even though I'm unsure whether or not you meant what I've been thinking, but HOLY COW, I am so glad to see someone agree that we're putting too much faith in this guy. He's made some good movies. He's made some bad movies. Most of his superhero movies have been solid. This might not translate to him being able to restart a universe, especially when Superman needs a very different tone than guardians or TSS. He's also made a couple moves that I wasn't a fan of already, namely his decision to keep most of his guys from peacemaker and TSS but boot Cavill because they needed a "clean slate" or whatever. I'm fine with the clean slate, but you can't have your cake and eat it too! Now, he does seem to really care about superman. I have hope that the movie will be good. But a lot of people are acting like DC's about to enter a golden age and I just want to see at least ONE movie in this universe before I jump on the hype train.

Actually The Batman 2 was delayed due to Matt Reeves taking time with the script. Absolutely nothing to do with Superman.

Ok?

Let's talk about SUMMER 2024 sets? Pick 1 what you are most interested. Let's start from there! PLEASE

...

Ok??? no ANSWER...

MAYBE I start 1st. In my region, Finland, this is the most popular set at the moment in Superhero category: 76273 ... yes! batpod. It costs 66 €. But we have to understand that salaries differ from country to country. Also living expenses and so on.

For me this is a bit expensive. Reason why I won't buy this set is BECAUSE it is not minifigure scale. Simple as that. Could I buy it and MOC it for minifigure scale. I do not have the skills... :/ ... so should we start from this set???

You are exactly right. The Guardians were good films for what they were, but, forgive me for sounding like a purist, those aren't the Guardians of the Galaxy. Of course, my first introduction to them was Earth's Mightiest Heroes, so I'm a tad biased. Still, I can acknowledge that it was a good film and people love it, no denying that. I just hope that Gunn isn't one note and can accurately portray these characters as they're meant to be, not just how he wants them to be. GotG is fine when you've got Cap and Iron Man running around to balance things out. Not the case if everything's the same. I got the impression that The Suicide Squad was very much in the style of GOTG.

And now we wait for Superman. I'm sure it'll be enjoyable, but let's keep those horses stabled.

I think its not so much expecting DC to enter a new golden age but rather recognizing the direction they take with Superman is going to make or break DC going forward. The superhero genre is on the decline and DC in particular has been having a steady stream of failures for a while now. Superman needs to focus on being a good movie that can earn some public goodwill back and prove there is still relevancy left in the brand.

If they screw it up its over. No one is going to stick around for a shared universe if they can't get this one film right nor will anybody have the patience to go through yet another reboot after this one.

I'm just gonna put more faith in him now :devil_laugh:

But whilst I see your point, the DCEU overall was such a crock of megablocks that I really can't imagine him doing much worse.

Booting Cavil was definitely the right choice. A fresh start is needed ( No insult to Cavil here just the writers). I know you like the Synder cut and I won't argue with that because I haven't even seen it, but the so-called Synder-Verse was an overall mess. Keeping the peacemaker characters is more about having a second season of that show than the universe going forward and it has enough degrees of separation from the main films that I don't really mind it but I do think a completely clean slate would've been better.

I used to get giant DC comic showcases out of the library as a kid. They were in black and white (this was 2007 but they were issues reprinted from like the 60s or something) and one of them was World's Finest and the cover was superman and batman on a tandem bicycle whilst Jimmy Olsen and Robin looked sad that Thier besties had a new best pals. They go on silly hijinks.

You, uh, you didn't give anyone the chance to answer.

But I'll say that they've decided to base a Batmobile and a D2C on BtaS gives me hope that other animated Batmobiles might follow on from the live action movie ones ( 66 has a movie so that sort of counts). As I wrote in the wishlist thread a 'the Brave and the Bold' set and a 'Batman Beyond' set would be cool.

This just proves what I am saying. WB dropped Batman during COVID because they didn’t have faith in it doing well. And it didn’t. It made less money than Aquaman. And now Batman part 2 is being delayed because WB is prioritizing Superman over it. Superman gets a cartoon that’s going on its second season while the Batman cartoon got sold off. It’s clear what is going on. Audiences don’t want any more of that lame guy in a bat Halloween costume. The people want the superior super powered alien man who actually has powers. Lego will follow suit I think. No more Batman sets ever again. We can only hope.

In fact, I think there’s a good chance DC will get rid of Batman altogether.

I feel like since it was a start of the trilogy, it didn't make 1B$ but I'm sure the 2nd one will in 2026, everyone was new to that Batman since it's the first time we saw him.

I have been quietly following this thread and it has been awesome. That post of the superman v batman statue got a good laugh out of me when it appeared.

Firstly I think the new Batman sets are pretty awesome. We only have the budget for one theme this year but I've been tempted to get that new Batman polybag with the animated series fig.

Second, Batman is the only superhero I really like, but I don't mind if Supe gets the spotlight for a bit either. If the Superman film does well isn't that a win for DC in general?

In my opinion the Marvel movies have made superhero movies feel too homogenized but there is potential for comics to be excellent films, so I'd like to see DC pick up the slack and save the day, even if it's not with a hero I'm particularly attached to.

I do not hide. I will not run. I am the Superman to Turtle’s Batman (or at least how he perceives their relationship.)

I do not cower in fear at the sight of another insane inmate. I merely increase my insanity until I make my opponent cower in fear themselves.

Turtle cannot stop me. I fear no man, no Turtle and no Inmate. The only thing I have to fear is fear itself.

Let the war of the insane commence. I will  hunt down the last of our sanity and extinguish it. And I will continue to do so until even Jonkler, Man and r/BatmanArkham bows down before our insanity.

Who will join me in this crusade?!

As we're apparently in the mindset of winding each other up with differing opinions I'll throw mine out there.

I wasn't a fan of the pandemic.

Claiming to be a massive Batman fan while ignoring his friendship with Superman and the subsequent friendship of their sons is a bit wall-eyed.

Henry Cavill was a good fit as Superman but jeez did Snyder not know about colour and contrast, visually and thematically.

Aquaman was great fun and as good as Jason Momoa was in the role, that wasn't really Aquaman.

TSS was the best DC film I've seen since The Dark Knight trilogy. It was a wild ride that satirised the situation they found themselves in brilliantly.

Peacemaker was a good departure that dipped into the comics nicely.

Blue Beetle was fun but it was tough knowing deep down that it wouldn't really go anywhere beyond that one film.

The teams and characters that Gunn is introducing us to are a good mix of familiar and untested.

I don't want anymore 1989 inspired sets. Yawn.

Have I missed anything out? Anyone not feeling that I've picked on their views enough? In the words of a great man these are my opinions, if you don't like them I have others.
