Aquaman was great fun and as good as Jason Momoa was in the role, that wasn't really Aquaman. TSS was the best DC film I've seen since The Dark Knight trilogy. It was a wild ride that satirised the situation they found themselves in brilliantly. Peacemaker was a good departure that dipped into the comics nicely. Blue Beetle was fun but it was tough knowing deep down that it wouldn't really go anywhere beyond that one film. The teams and characters that Gunn is introducing us to are a good mix of familiar and untested. This quote well agrees with my stance on new DCU and why I think it's bound be above and beyond the DCEU. Possibly at least on par with DCAMU probably not as good as the DCAU Are there any DC on screen universe initialisms I missed? 11 hours ago, BrickBob Studpants said: I get it, there’s off-topic nonsense. The Guardians were good films for what they were, but, forgive me for sounding like a purist, those aren't the Guardians of the Galaxy. Of course, my first introduction to them was Earth's Mightiest Heroes, so I'm a tad biased. Still, I can acknowledge that it was a good film and people love it, no denying that. I just hope that Gunn isn't one note and can accurately portray these characters as they're meant to be, not just how he wants them to be. GotG is fine when you've got Cap and Iron Man running around to balance things out. Not the case if everything's the same. I got the impression that The Suicide Squad was very much in the style of GOTG. And now we wait for Superman. I'm sure it'll be enjoyable, but let's keep those horses stabled. /uj I believe he was just stating that Covid was a thing that was prevalent during the release of some of those films, not a criticism one way or the other. Unless this is also part of the memery, in which case: as you were. Even then, the guardians weren't prominent enough for their Gunn tone to cause widespread backlash. Superman IS. You can't have his film be full of raunchy jokes or the sort of casual Nihilism TSS had (I still can't get over the scene where Peacemaker and Bloodsport kill a village of soldiers only to find out they were the good guys, and it's played for laughs. Peacemaker might be insane enough to justify it, but Bloodsport shouldn't have walked it off like that, nor do they treat it as more than an oops.) Same opinion on superman. COULD be good, but yeah, we've really got no major indications either way. Yeah, I don't think it's controversial or stating an opinion on the efficacy of masks to say that having to wear one for three hours may have turned some people off from going to theatres. Or just being that close to that many other people. I know I didn't find the masks comfortable, and while I wasn't exactly the demo at risk, I 100% wouldn't have been eager to enter a theatre in those years if I was at more risk. Regardless of safety measures, that's a lot of people very close together. 8 hours ago, Agent Kallus said: Booting Cavil was definitely the right choice. A fresh start is needed ( No insult to Cavil here just the writers). I know you like the Synder cut and I won't argue with that because I haven't even seen it, but the so-called Synder-Verse was an overall mess. Keeping the peacemaker characters is more about having a second season of that show than the universe going forward and it has enough degrees of separation from the main films that I don't really mind it but I do think a completely clean slate would've been better. I may not have been clear about that- I agree, booting Cavill WAS the right choice, because they needed to completely wipe and restart the universe, but I don't think it's a good start to make noise about a clean slate and then keep everyone from the project you were personally involved in. Peacemaker and Waller both have the same casts, and Peacemaker has a direct season 2 follow up, so it's not making the clean break he gave as the reason for booting Cavill. That said, I don't really like how they've handled ANY of this transition. Blue Beetle is hypothetically the first DCU movie, I think, but I don't think many people saw that. You want to start a new universe? Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman needs to be your starting punch. Follow with Flash, GLs, Justice League. Not this weird hodgepodge plan they've got where Wonder Woman isn't headlining anything and a big focus of phase one is the pre-existing TSS era characters as well as the obscure Authority group. Branching out to lesser known teams CAN work, but you've got to hit the ground running with characters the general audience has at least heard of, and you don't want to hamper your appeal by making a big part of your first chunk of content a maturity rating that removes kids from your audience. 1 hour ago, Agent Kallus said: Is this supposed to be a controversial opinion? Frank Grillo will be appearing in season 2 as Rick Flag Sr. (following his debut in Creature Commandos) and will be seeking revenge for his son's death, which obviously happens in TSS Quote

Agent Kallus Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 (edited) See one of my problems with BvS is it copies the imagery of that fight without the emotions, meaning or context. That is two old friends pushed apart. They already know their mum's have the same name, and neither of them hates the other which only makes the duel all the more bitter. I think WB just wanted something to parallel civil war, but BvS was a terrible choice for a Batman's first movie. A batman v superman early days fight that I like is the one in justice league war, though that is more batman and GL V Superman. Also a great line from GL green lantern: 'Wait...You're not just some guy in a bat costume, are you?' Batman : *Smirks* And that's another reason I'm excited for Gun's DCU, finally more lantern Content!!! Both the CW Shows and the DCEU mostly just ignored them with only a few brief references. Up there with introducing Red Death in a show that barely mentions batman. And given they had the budget for something like Legends of Tomorrow, why not give us a GL show? (Granted, I wasn't a fan of the CW past when I was young enough to enjoy early Flash, so I'll take it as a good thing that we haven't been flooded with more low-quality GL content past the movie itself) 16 hours ago, PGBQW said: Superman literally lets Batman win that fight btw Yup. On the wider topic of Batman vs Superman, I think we all agree the movie was pretty rough. That said, if the Snyder films had been Elseworlds rather than a main continuity, I think they would have done much better. I don't think BvS would be looked on fondly, but I think MoS and Snyder Cut would be movies people would really enjoy. I also think that while executed badly, the idea of an old, cynical batman who's long since broken his one rule fighting a fairly new-to-superheroics superman because he can't believe that another hero exists is a pretty solid story idea- again as an elseworlds story. Reveal hidden contents I like it blue but black is nice too... so I have to bought 2 sets! Jerry Siegel had been employed by National Allied Publications for three years prior to the creation of Superman, and anything he created whilst employed became the property of the employer. In 1946 NAP merged with Detective Comics Inc. (the home of Batman and others) and absorbed All-American Publications (home of the JSA) to become National Comics Publications and in 1977 became DC Comics. Despite all of this the company was regularly calling itself Superman DC by 1940. DC has bought many comics publishers over the years, but they didn't buy Superman. Batman has an IQ higher than 250 and can speak 40 languages. He also keeps a large chunk of Kryptonite in the Batcave in case Superman becomes a threat. By this he knows that Clark won't suddenly turn evil, but he is susceptible to the various forms of Kryptonite, magic and mind control. For example when infamous Batman villain Poison Ivy infected him a Kryptonite infused plant. Superman was also not invulnerable when Doomsday killed him. Quote

It's on par with Star Wars or Halo in that regard. War of Light would be incredible, but a terrible idea to shoot for out of the gate. You need at least one trilogy prior to that. Plus, Black Night is a Justice League story, a lot needs to happen before we get to that point. But generally I agree, give us the Lantern mythos. Limiting GL to Earth (or any one planet) is incredibly stupid, but Hal does have a terrestrial rogues gallery: Doctor Polaris, Sonar, Black Hand (set up for Blackest Night), you could bring in Evil Star and Goldface. No one terribly iconic, but there are some fun ones to play with. Major Disaster (but he needs to be in his black coat), Eclipso (risky without the JLA but a worthy opponent), Doctor Light (Arthur)... The more I think about it, the more I actually like the idea of grounding Lantern first, before making the jump to Sinestro and all that follows. Quote

THELEGOBATMAN Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Let's play your game Mr. Turtle. • I will buy the Animated Series Batmobile — it's relatively cheap (although very overpriced), and is a good display model with interesting minifigures • Animated Series Gotham City D2C (great set), Animated Series Batmobile (very good set) and, uh... Bat-Pod (I guess it's pretty well-built, but I could not care less for it) • I don't necessarily hate any of the sets, but I absolutely don't care at all for the Mech, the Batcave, and the Bat-Pod (all for different reasons) — I hate the fact that in a five-set wave, there's a single regular set which isn't a gimmick or a subtheme of any kind • Superman-based set, that's it — just put some effort into it, don't make the minifigure crap (like Batman from The Batman), include Lois some villains Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 I‘ll buy all the sets since I‘m a completionist (sort of). In fact, I‘ve already pre-ordered the June wave! My favourites are the skyline, BTAS Batmobile, and very likely the 60s Batmobile. I don’t hate the 4+ set, but it’s a nothing-burger to me Just lame. Next year, we‘ll ideally get at least 3 Superman sets, covering not only the main characters we‘ve seen many times before (Supes, Lois, Lex), but also side characters like Guy Gardner. And hopefully more BTAS sets! They just barely scratched the surface this year. Quote

They'll most likely appear in one or two scenes, so calling them 'side characters' is a bit generous. Granted, we don't know the exact extent of their role, but Gunn is smart enough not to sideline Superman in his own movie for the sake of world-building. Let's hope they include all the villains tho (unless it's just Luthor, but it seems unlikely) after the horrible recent LEGO MCU villains streak. Quote
