Guys! I need a bit of help? How should I display my DC minifigures? How you do it? AND what is "the best" display case for maybe 100-200 figures?

(bonus: LED-light).

We’ve covered the funniest GL moments yesterday but before we fridge the concept here’s two more.

Anyway. Now let’s talk about our favourite moments in GL comics. Things that made you fall in love with the character.

I've got a display case from Smyths ( Ireland and UK retailer though they vaguely recently expanded into mainland Europe by buying up defunct ToysRuses) holds plenty of figs, has led strips and only cost £35. I'll upload a picture when I get back from work.

???

:laugh::laugh: I see what you did there ( presumably unintentionally).

But you should appreciate him, he's green like a turtle. And he's not got superpowers it's just his ring and lanyard ( it was a typo last time but now I've decided it's funny).

I've not even read the Kyle Rayner comics, but even I know the fridge story. Classic! Is it the reason the trope is named that way?

Really it's not so much the character I fell in love with but the concept. Imagination as a weapon is cool, the world building of the emotional spectrum is cool, green is also my favourite colour. GL lore is second only to batman in terms of superheroes to me. More than any other hero Green Lanyard and the surrounding lore is a whole magic system it's interesting in the same Avatar's bending system it makes the world interesting beyond just the current characters and story's but it's potential.

In the Justice league unlimited show they made the dubious decision to have GL wear gold and blue.

I somehow accidentally quoted myself when trying to edit out a typo. Lesson learned, I will leave in typos!

It‘s a shame the 2011 GL movie harmed the brand the way it did since there‘s so much potential here, not only film-wise but also in terms of sets! I still don‘t understand why they keep insisting on making a show out of it rather than movies though. Earth-based GL stories sound very limited in scope and the effects do require quite a sizeable budget! :shrug_oh_well: Hopefully Gunn does something cool with Guy next year, even though he will likely be a comedic side character

August seems to be a preferred release date for NA in general, that way Europe gets first crack at the summer waves in June. It varies year-to-year, theme-by-theme, but that's not uncommon.

I still wonder if the US getting the bespin duel set was a good trade-off for europe getting the magazines and a few themes two months early each summer. I think for the year it probably was- it's one of my favorite sets- but the magazines are such a massive benefit figure-wise so I'd say most years you guys still win out.

The one good part of all-star batman and robin's Batman just being a horrible human being was the yellow room scene.

I love the scene where Hal essentially forges a ring out of pure, unadulterated willpower. Such a quintessentially Green Lantern scene. I even made a MOC in my moc wave awhile back with a side build for the concept:

Looking back, that Batwing is definitely not my best work- or even my best batwing. Just look at the anvil part and ignore the rest.

This might be the most confusing post yet. What does this mean? I get the bee thing but the hidden part... what? It seems like something I wouldn't want to google but beyond that I don't understand. I've been out-manned, the Aslume is going too deep for me!

Well, I just want to say that here on forum, are some members who are actually a bit bitter. YES! For the sphincter ear. BUT the thing is that there is Batman and then HUGE ROGUE GALLERY!

That is DC. Marvel is the franchise if you are interested guys who can fly. Batman is popular because he is just a regular guy who want's to make his hometown safe. Batman is so different level compared even whole Marvel or other DC characters. He will be the most popular superhero even he does not belong that group. Batman is for adults.

So much to unpack here.

First of all, I have absolutely no idea what you mean by 'for the sphincter ear', but I love it.

Great to see you embraced LEGO's logic of DC consisting of basically just Batman, but DC is just as much about flying guys as Marvel. Just because the most popular character doesn't have superpowers, it doesn't mean other ones don't.

Then there's the 'BaTmAn Is FoR aDuLtS' part. I thought we were over it as a society, but I guess not. I'll just say that Batman is as much for kids as it is for adults. I've been introduced to Batman through a PSP LEGO video game as a few-year-old, and I've loved him ever since — as a kid, as a teenager, as an adult.

Then again, I know you're just toying will all of us. We're all a part of your game, and most of us don't even realise it. We're the inmates, but you run the Aslume.

Meh, it's a list describing the themes found in the forum, so most obvious would be start with the most popular. All I would change is remove Simpsons and include Potter.

But the creator of the character did have certain rights, rights for superman that DC did indeed buy and only for £82. What a steal!!! So in a roundabout way the 🐢 was right.

Indeed, but that's the case for every character - the company can't create new properties without writers and illustrators. Siegel and Shuster created the character before they joined the company, but they signed a contract that handed everything over to their employer. The rights of creators has been a long fought battle that centres around the fact that if you create or present a previously conceived character whilst employed by a comic book publisher, then that character stays with the company after you've gone. To wit, saying that DC had to buy the character isn't a situation unique to Superman. That the creators had to fight to get credit only demonstrates that they had immediate seller's remorse. The $130 (not £82?) that DC paid might not seem like a lot, even in today's money at $2890, but at that point literally no one else was interested in buying the character so they considered themselves lucky to get that money until they found out that Action Comics 1 sold out it's entire print run and the series was racking up million strong sales a month. And it's not like DC/NAP knew that they had bought a golden goose, as they only chose Superman for a dynamic looking cover and it took time to realise that comic was incredibly popular because of Superman. If you want to get into the really stupid nuances of character ownership and rights then it's the sad tale of Captain Marvel and Fawcett Comics you need to look up.

I think it's brilliant you like Batman because he has no powers and is therefore for adults, yet feel that Watchmen is really not for you. It's just so delicious. I got into DC through Batman some 37 years ago, and encountered Marvel a couple of years later and really didn't resonate with it. The fact that you are saying that on a forum about Lego Batman (Duplo, 4+, Juniors, typical age range 7 - 14 years) makes me worry that no matter how delicious, I might not be able to finish the whole thing.

And for the record I'm looking forward to reading about the exploits of Sphincter Ear. I'm guessing he's a non-powered vigilante who just wants to make his city safe.

I never want another flashpoint ever again. Once was enough.

And while the Crisis Sagas are also amazing, no more multiverses for a while. It's becoming nauseating.

I doubt that we will see any Flashpoint or CoIE arcs anytime soon, since the reason those stories work is because the status quo of the main universe is known (this is why doing Flashpoint while the DCEU was barely developed was stupid, and bringing Keaton back for nostalgia purposes does not sell the alternate timeline as the “bad” one!).

sorry not the best phot, but hopefully not too terrible either.

https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/construction-and-cars/storage-and-display-units/5-level-minifigurine-display-case-with-led-lights/p/220532

I have it set up to hold 125 figures (well 121 because Darksied is a big boy)

If anyone is interested in who the characters I'll list them in the spoiler below,

Spoiler

right they are in clusters of 5 but most clusters aren't full and only have 3 in. Quite a few are purist customs and I only have one of each character on display, other wise it's be 50% Bruce Wayne. There are also a couple of characters that I have but aren't in the case: Jessica Cruz, the Calculator and TLBM Twoface, I also left out Jim Gordon because I didn't know where to put him but I've decided I'll put him with the batfam.

1st row (from the top) is the Batfam and Superman related heroes, from left to right we have: Batman, Nighwing (I much prefer the blue over the red for him but I don't have a blue nightwing), Batgirl, Red Hood, Batwoman (she's actually a liberated key chain), Robin [Tim Drake], Alfred Pennyworth (strongest DC character for realises), Spolier, Black-Bat, Robin[Damian Wayne], Batwing, Batmite, Huntress, Superman [Kal-el], Supergirl, Power Girl, Krypto, Superman [Val-Zod]

2nd row is batman/Gotham rogues: the Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, the Penguin, Mister Freeze, Catwoman, the Mime, Condiment King, Magpie, Calander man, Catman, Orca, King Tut, Scarecrow, Maxie Zeus, the Riddler, March Harriet, Manbat, Egghead, Kite-Man, Zodaic man, Hugo Strange, Killer Moth, Bane, The Eraser

The 3rd row is heroes again starting with the lanterns: Simon Baz, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardener, Kyle Rayner, John Stewart, Wonder Woman, Wondergirl, Cyborg, Bumble Bee, Halo, Blue Beetle, Doctor Fate, Martian Manhunter, The Flash [Jay Garrick], the Flash [Barry Allen]

The 4th row was meant to the non-batman villians but I had to have some bat rogue overflow here too: Darkseid, Desaad, Lex Luthor, Livewire, Brainiac, Zod, Clock king, Chetah, Felix Faust, Captain Cold, Heatwave, King Shark, Sinestro, Psimon, Mad Hatter, Martha Wayne [Joker], Mad Mod

The and Final row is the remaining heroes: Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Aqualad, Black Canary, Green Arrow, Red Arrow, Mister Miracle, El Dorado, Longshadow, Wonder dog, Metamorpho, wonder twins, the Atom, Black Vulcan.

I know about the acquisition of captain marvel, and I know its not a situation unique to superman (In fact its a concept I first discovered regarding doctor who villains), the £82 rather than $130 is because that was the exchange rate of the day and my mind is always drawn to the pound value first as it's what I use in my day to day life.

The bespin duel being unavailable here did sting (The target exclusive Superboy stung more though), but it was when we got the Luke from that set (and cloudcity) in the magazine that I decided that we're getting the better deal. especially because (IMO) the magazines have been getting better lately.

yeah, if I recall correctly the failure of the movie is was prompted the cancelation of GLtAS (Green Lantern the Animated Series). I really hope DC can revive it someday.

Anyway. Now let’s talk about our favourite moments in GL comics.

I might be misremembering but ithink there a was a screen where a green lantern (probably Hal) on earth had somehow messed up their ring and so they spray painted a baseball bat green and beat some crooks up with it so they wouldn't realise he'd lost his powers. it might've been from a spoof though.

Also I have a question for you as our resident green lantern expert. I recently got a stack of new 52 green lantern books ( namley- Green Lantern Volume 1: Sinestro, Red Lanterns Volume 1: Blood and Rage, Red Lanterns Volume 2: Death of the red Lanterns, Sinestro volume 1: The Demon Within, And Green Lantern: Brightest Day  ) and I was wondering what the best order to read them in was, and if there any other required reading I should do first? (I've already read Blackest Night though that was several years ago)

Ouuhh boy! Thank you all for discussion.

  1. That display case is just the 1 I have watched videos from YouTube. It cost 120 € to get here in Finland. Some day I will buy 2 of those.
  2. Batman with long ears... that is my Batman in my CUSTOM universe
  3. Yes DC is much more than Batman BUT for many it is only Batman and Batman related content

The reason I bought Batman vs. Superman, Justice League movies, The Flash ... is because of this AMAZING tag-team: Alfred and Bruce. Benn Affleck is 1 on of the best if not the best batman and Jeremy Irons 1 of the best Alfred. They play so well together. (If I have to pick 1 it is Michael Keaton...).

Here’s my recommended order:
1) Brightest Day (it’s pre new 52), 2) GL V1: Sinestro, 3) Red Lanterns in Volume order.  (The previous two occur at the same time and both lead into the Rise of the Third Army and Rise of the First Lantern.) 4) And then Sinestro Volume one as that occurs some time after Rise of the First Lantern.

Oh and the GL that was doing a Batman I believe was Guy Gardner. He had lost his ring during Rise of The Third Army. He ended up in Jail for ruining a police raid though.

I mean but that's like if I went "why does batman retire after killing Harvey Dent in TDK when he killed a ton of people in the burton films". It's a different continuity. Bloodsport in the DCEU is meant to be much more sympathetic, being the protagonist after all, so that's why I don't like it. There's a difference between rooting for a former assassin trying to protect his daughter and rooting for a guy who doesn't seem to have an issue with the fact that he just murdered a TON of people who were on his side.

I don't think I ever read those particular comics, but I believe you're mostly right. The issue isn't that he's actually a, you know, it's moreso that it's weirdly close to it, and Hal himself seems to recognize that but is still ok dating her.

That said, I can't believe we're all ignoring the fact that his canonical true enemy is a COLOR. And unlike the road sign (itself yellow) or the FBI, this was a pretty consistent thing with his character for awhile.

Talking about how Batman flies and glides in many continuities with his capes, jetpacks, and wingsuits?

I don't know... I think he saw her as a little sister, and then when she aged herself up he thought it was a different woman of the same species.

Well, even without the Simpsons hints, it‘s unquestionably an Icons set. A DC D2C set would have a set number in the normal Superheroes range, not 10XXX
