To be honest I think the power level is not very important, when it comes to a villain being good. I like for example Two face, because the idea of a very idealistic person breaking because of the realisation the world is not fair is something I can relate to. Facing unfair stuff and try not get desperate is a very human theme. ... an Alien that wants to destroy the earth because "Muhaha, I am evil and powerfull" bores me. The main reason I love Batman so much more than any other superhero is Gotham. I also do not care about anything Batman related with dimension travels, aliens and so on, too.

Is Superman boring character?

Depends on who's writing him. If they understand that Superman is basically a good guy trying to help people and protect the ones he loves because deep down he's human (in all but physiology) then no. If he's just a "God among men" a la Kill Bill's character breakdown on him, then yes. All of the evil Supermen fall into this too. I know, "power corrupts", so it's refreshing to have heroes who do good because of the power they have.

See this is why I think he needs more attention ( i.e. the movie) than Batman. Batman is already well respected as a character in a way that superman isn't. This frequent idea of him being boring could be resolved if the movie is good enough and proves to the general audience how compelling a character he can be. I do personally still prefer Batman to Supes though, not that it should be a contest, really.

Exactly. I have a buddy who swears up and down that Superman is just so boring, and I'm like "tell me you know nothing about Superman without telling me you know nothing about Superman". But to be fair, a lot of more recent media hasn't done him any favors. MAWS is probably the best version of the character in the last 5-10 years (didn't watch CW's Clark and Lois, so I could be corrected). Even the DCAMU got Superman wrong for like half those films (he gets better towards the end).

Don't get me wrong, I can enjoy even a poorly written Superman, but those interpretations don't help him beat the boring allegations.

Not a fan of the idea. CMF series should feature a wide range of characters, not just the main cast of a single upcoming movie (the LEGO movies being obvious exceptions). That‘s what the sets are for!

Exactly. Even if they did a Superman or Batman specific CMF, they should feature figures from across the character's history.

Like can't beat him at all? Or that he's unable to defeat? Because I can list nearly all of Superman's Earth-bound foes that Batman can defeat. Batman can't handle some of his own villains at times, not sure how that makes Superman's villains better than his.

Batman objectively has the best rogues gallery in comics, followed by Spider-Man. Best in terms of design, character, and depth. Superman would definitely be third, followed by The Flash. The average joe can name more Batman villains than Superman villains.

If we're talking power levels, then of course Superman's gallery would rank above Batman, but that wasn't Turtle's point.

All those 3 are 100 times deeper characters than this Laser Eye who flies Moon and back in a fraction of a second. OR even faster.

Sounds pretty cool. Much better than running around dressed like a bat losing to a bunch of idiots dressed like clowns.

Superman is one of the most boring Hero characters to ever exist in all of comics.

If I told you I was creating a character who is virtually an indestructible god with only one real weakness which will be exploited over and over again for like 80 years by the same four characters, you'd say that's stupid as hell. That's Superman.

There's no drama to any of his battles, he's either gonna win essentially unharmed or the villain will pull the 492nd chunk of Kryptonite out their megablocks to win for a few minutes before losing anyway. If you wanna change up the battle, maybe they'll go after Lois Lane instead of Kryptonite, wow very exciting. I could honestly forgive all of it if he at least had some kind of genuinely interesting development or backstory, but he doesn't. He's just another god like alien in a universe literally full of them.

Ya know, this repetitive debate is kinda reminding me of this scene in The Killing Joke:

Have to say. I admire you for standing up for your beliefs, no matter how many people disagree with you.

This thread has turned into Turtle v Superman: Dawn of Character Depth:jollyroger:

If you think there's no drama to Superman's character, then clearly you haven't read or watched a single well-written comicbook or movie with him.

Do I prefer Batman? Yes, mostly because I have been exposed to much more content with him. (I feel like I've been turning into a Superman guy recently tho.) Saying that, Superman is the coolest superhero ever.

Just because he's indestructible and has various superpowers doesn't mean he's a bland character, nor does he lack depth — only if someone writes him so.

His physical superiority only elevates the stories — my favourite example is Pa Kent's death (something Snyder butchered beyond my comprehension). Even with all his superpowers, Superman couldn't save his father from a simple heart attack. Things like that make the character so much more interesting — the stories aren't focused on physical struggles, but the mental ones.

Well, in the end I am right 99 % of my opinions.

The thing is that I say what I think. I am not afraid of it. Most of us want Superman to succeed (2025) BUT same time most of us know that it is Superman. That's it. So... I am asking what they should do? Make so boring character interesting?

...
What if Superman lost his ability fly. He has to use only his cape.

What if Laser Eye cause him so much pain that he has to reduce using them to very minimum.

What if Superman would lost 90 % of his power... still strong but maybe a car not truck...

Wouldn’t mind getting some of the suit designs in minifigure form.

Nathan is Hal and I cannot get over how you fumble a casting that badly. Not your point but I had to.

This is one of my big worries about superman 2025. Fillion, like you said, IS Hal. And then Gunn cast him as the literal gym teacher of GLs. Not that Guy couldn't be entertaining, but Fillion is being wasted here, (and also he's not a redhead, because god forbid a redheaded comic book character be allowed to retain their hair color.)

I was more talking about Batman’s child endangerment tendencies (*Jason Todd, Damian Wayne and Tim Drake have entered the chat.*) Superman’s fine because all his sidekicks are indestructible.

This is also completely true.

You could make the argument Man of Steel does, but this just tells me that's the only superman film turtle's seen.

No matter how much Batman uses them to fly (Because a lot of writers just give up and essentially give him powers under the mask of super advanced technology), a cape doesn't make you fly- or even glide well. Please do not try this at home.

Every costume in that frame goes harder than most costumes are capable of. I'd honestly go so far as to say that's the best aquaman costume I've ever seen, and the top tier of costumes for Diana, Barry, and Hal. (Ironically Batman's is fairly weak- they should have taken his gadgets away so we see him just in a low-budget suit using his surroundings a la Tony in Iron Man 3)

I don't think making him weaker is necessarily the only way to make him more interesting. Ultimately I think at the heart of superman there already a more interesting character than most seem to think, it has unfortunately found itself buried as of late.

That is entirely irrelevant and you know it.

I know this is a joke, but I'm coming to the defense of the goat. Luuke is just a quick written shorthand that flows better in writing than constantly going "the clone of Luke" or "Luke's clone". All indications are that was only used for single clones, and the others were named- In fact, I remember there being clones in the follow up duology and while it's been awhile since I read it I'm pretty confident they had names, and that they weren't things like Coooooooovell.

Well, that was wonderful. A good time was had by all. I'm pooped!

Yes, I should be---- GOOD LORD, WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THERE!?

A Joke?

Uh... A Joke!? On Eurobricks?, on this sub-forum, in this theead, localized entirely within @Agent Kallus's post!?

Yes.

...May I see it?

...No.

But in all seriousness, I can admit that I have read the Thrawn Trilogy but not the hand of Thrawn duology, is assumed it was some sort of a prequel rather tgsn a followed considering how Thrawn was at the trilogy's end

I refuse to elaborate on the duology besides the fact that it takes place after the trilogy, is canon to the legends continuity, and makes logical sense without devaluing the trilogy. Anything else would spoil it's main thing.

I said elements... The Batman (2022) is very close to serial killer movies / tv shows. There is also action, thriller and film noir, BUT many horror elements. 1st scene is a good sample about this.

Also prison scenes are straight from serial killer tv shows. ... if you watch movie 4K from BIG SCREEN... HDR... you should see very dark film. Darkness is everywhere and rain.

Flash is a joke. No more comment.

Wonder Woman is like Superman... 1 of the most boring characters of all time.

Aquaman, a flop. I think Atlantis is the thing. Aquazone, Aquanauts and other themes.

...

Green Lantern I have seen in Justice League films... if I remember correct. I must say that LEGO made me interested of Green Lantern, Yellow Lantern, Sinestro, even Cheetah. Lantern Corp... that amazing logo. There is something in this. Batman needs allies, now that Joker has formed bigger faction from 13 super criminals.

Lets be realistic, each of those need an opponent. For example:

Batman vs Joker

Robin vs Catwoman (in my universe Catwoman is on dark side)

Alfred vs Riddler

Batgirl vs Poison Ivy

and so on... Bathound "ACE" vs Bane.... exc. exc.

How did you reach these two particular nemesis conclusions? Alfred is very rarely in combat.

I'll give you batgirl vs poison ivy just because they were nemeses in the 2004 batman series.

Anyway, you forgot the much cooler matchups:

Superman vs Lex Luthor

Wonder Woman vs Ares

Flash vs Reverse Flash

Hal Jordon vs Sinestro

Jon Stewart vs Alderaan

Guy Gardner vs twitter

Kyle Rayner vs kitchen appliances and/or low-effort character development tropes.

Since we've gotten so off-topic, I'm gonna bring up that bumblebee leak and how it (specifically the arms) makes me feel like that scene in Man of Steel after superman kills Zod where he just falls to the ground mentally broken.

Well, I liked the film. And I don't generally like Superhero films... Batman '66 and it's TV show along with Batman '89 + '92 and BTAS being the few exceptions.

I have not seen Aquaman or Wonder Woman movies. AND not even superman movies.

...

Alfred is very talented with computers. Riddler made very difficult PUZZLE, it is not a physical fight. ...You are right - there are better fight couples BUT that was prototyping... slowly but steadily parts will click each other.

I am probably only 1 here who likes Jesse Eisenberg as a Lex Luthor. Also I like a lot Lex Corp. henchman's.
