Lazcam Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Hi, I've had this 80s style lego train in my loft for the last 30 years. Got it down yesterday, and although it seems to piece together, I have no way to control it. Does anyone want it? I really don't want to have to throw it away. Quote
MAB Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 (edited) Is it the blue or grey 12V track? With metal conducting rails. There is certainly demand for it although most of the basic parts are not worth very much. If it has been in a loft, you might find the rails have corrosion and need a good clean before it works again. Edited January 22, 2024 by MAB Quote
Lazcam Posted January 22, 2024 Author Posted January 22, 2024 It's grey. Looks a bit corroded in parts. Quote
MAB Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 You could probably get rid of it on ebay. Be upfront and say that it is untested and include some photos of any possible corrosion to show the general condition. You can test continuity in individual pieces using a battery, wires, an LED or small bulb but it doesn't guarantee that there is no surface corrosion, and sometimes the connections get corroded too. Usually, the "corrosion" on these conducting rails is easily removed - depends of course on what type of corrosion. A photograph would help a lot in assessing the degree of corrosion. If not that serious, I'd clean them (recipe depends on type, just let us have a look) and then sell them off for more money ("cleaned, tested, working great") instead of "untested, corroded, as is". Also, how many do you have? Are they all corroded to the same degree? Would cleaning something you'd take into consideration at all? Best, Thorsten Edited January 22, 2024 by Toastie Quote
Lazcam Posted January 22, 2024 Author Posted January 22, 2024 My father in law has taken it all away. He’s got a similar set and doesn’t mind cleaning it up. Let’s see if I ever see it again Quote
