21348 Lego Ideas Dungeons & Dragons and D&D CMF

I am planning to play the game with this set and I have a question for people who have already played the campaign related to the Dungeons and Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale set. In the physical set, on the right side of the meadow at the entrance to the underground, there are monstrous tentacles sticking out of the water. There's not even a word about them in the script. While playing the game, did you introduce an additional fight with a monster in the style of the Battle of Durin's Gate from LOTR? Or maybe you simply removed these items from the set for the duration of the session so as not to provoke questions from players?

We are almost halfway through July and we should see offical reveal of DnD CMF Series. 

this makes me wonder - will we be able to scan QR code or barcode like Space Series 26?

Probably, since LEGO transitioned from no codes/unscannable codes in earlier boxed series to the scannable ones in later runs of Series 25 and all of Series 26.

A funny twist of fate really, we all thought the boxes were going make finding figures impossible but it turns out they actually made everything better.

Though I'll hardly need it for the D&D series as there isn't a single figure in it that I wouldn't be happy with multiples of!!

Yeah I would agree with that, though there is always the chance that they will change it again, if for instance to many shops complain about it. For the actual series it was probably to late to change anything since they were already in production and it also takes time to change to a new system. Anyways, I guess we will see it once the first people get them for reviews.

I doubt that shops would complain, since scannable codes reduce the number of people who tear boxes to check the contents (thereby resulting in less lost/damaged merchandise).

Still some were reported to prevent scanning them ;). In the end it will be harder to sell the less wanted sets.

I see this as similar to shops keeping bags locked behind the counter, though. The ability to feel the contents of the old bags did not cause a substantial loss in sales, so I doubt that the ability to scan boxes will either.

Well sure, but some might still complain about it. Anyways in the end the main question might be, if Lego wants to go with scanable figures. I mean the first series also had little spots where you could see what is included if you knew about it and they removed it. In the end it could also be that they are just ok with it since the know many are not happy that they can´t feel their minifigs anymore and also because some boxes were ripped. As said, we will have to see what their plans are.

Well, I don’t care if people are unhappy that we can’t feel the blind bags. I like that idea they use paper materials for CMF due to environmental reasons. I am very happy with scanabble codes from Space Series 26. I think Lego realizes that absent-minded people ripped the first blind boxes so they tried to find a way to stop people form ripping again. Weight of minifigure is absoutely useless becuase of glue’s weight added to it. 

I’m not into D&D, so I am not intereste din this entire series but I will have after dragon, rat, bird, and cool armor pieces.  Scanning is the key tool to hunt.

I am sure a lot of kids and even a few adults just buy blind boxes so even if the most popular figs are bought with scanning the rest will be sold eventually as well. In addition even if 2-3 figs are most expensive on the after-marked it do not mean that every customer are hoping to get them when buying figs..

Wizards of the Coast recently announced their D&D booth at SDCC, and the release includes:

This might just mean displaying the existing set, but the timing seems good for this to potentially be an official reveal of the minifigure series.

If they're not revealed by then, it won't be long before photos leak out anyways. Most CMF's leak or are revealed about a month before release, so either way we'll be getting photos soon.

The blurb says "exclusives", so they can't be talking about the Ideas set, and as @JohnTPT17 points out, the timing would line up perfectly with a CMF reveal

Yeah what I've found with the scannable series is that the most popular ones are hard to find at first (unless you get to a box early) but on about 3 weeks or so they're no-longer as hard to find. And I'd be happy to grab a lot of the D&D boxes blind as I like them all a lot, and all would be good to have multiples of.

I have gotten into D&D over the past 6 years.  But even if I hadn't the series would still be right up my alley with it being medieval high fantasy with a diverse selection of species ( i.e beyond Humans, or beyond just Humans Elves and Dwarves) though TBH a just humans or just Humans Elves and Dwarves series would still have tickled my fancy just not as much.

Also I wonder if like the set that the alternative gender options will be a while second head rather than just a double sided one.

It's likely exclusive for the first three months or so, and then will be available from other retailers later. Although I've noticed that they seem to keep it marked as Exclusive for some sets now that are limited release (and used to be labelled as 'Hard to Find'), so who knows.

It is indeed semi exclusive, and already avaiable from other retailers ;).

Anyways, Artanis´ point is still valid, that the CMFs aren´t exclusive at all and I could see them having the Set on display there - still possible the CMF figures will be there too, else it would be a missed chance IMO. What would be really fun, if they also had the D&D table there Lego made for the D&D game they played in Billund.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Exclusive news and an official tease or reveal of the CMF or just a few figures.

Elaborating here instead. Remember this isn't me ranking them based on how much I like them but on how massable they are. On how good it would be to have multiple copies.

12 - The Lady of Pain :

- Robes are reusable but we massable than armour or anything, the head is very 

11 - Szass Tam

A very individual character but you could use him for other Thayan Red Wizards or undead but then kind look like clones.

10 - Tasha

Witchey robes, human head and spell time.

9 - Strahd

Could use his parts for other Nobles or Vamps but they're not as reusable as something like the ranger uniform. The rats will be fun to collect a little group of.

8 - the Tiefling Sorcerer 

This one would have been lower if not for the brilliant baby dragon. The robes look kinda awkward ( ironic considering sorcerer is my favourite class to play as). The spell effect is pretty cool to have a few of too and the horn hair will be great. The tail only works for orange Tiefs, which is understandable but the horn hair is more adaptable.

 

7 - Aarakocra Ranger

The torso is great and multiples would be great. The legs however make harder to just swap species with a head swap ( the bards legs do look like they'd match up) also harder to make aarakocra of offer classes. But he aarakocra head, legs and wings do allow for making more aarakocras which is nice. And an animal is always a plus.

6 - Githyanki Warlock

The ears, the ears! Honestly more useful for yellow skinned elves than Gith. I think of green or orange skinned Githyanki before yellow but it will be more useful for compatible yellow heads from the thousands that exist so that's great! The robes are really nice but not something you need a lot of. It's only this high for the hair/ears part! The head is nice for other Gith too but like I say I wouldn't want a huge group of Githyanki were they are all yellow.

5 - Half elf bard

Legs can work anywhere! Great new ear hair ( I'll give a spare to my Minifigs.Me Astarion). The clothes are nice for a civilian on the more fancy side. The scarf part is nice to get again ( though a more neutral colour might've been more adaptable, this works well for  bard). The lure is nice too but a new instrument like a lyre might have been more interesting.

4 - Halfling Druid

I LOVE the antler hood. Multiple copies of this could make a nice little circle of druids ( though usually druids aren't this uniform). The little bird is lovely too.

3 - Dwarf Barbarian 

You could make a nice little army with this one. The new axe and the torso will be brilliantly massable. 

2 - Mind flayer 

After playing a lot of BG3 recently and army of mind flayers is quite the appealing prospect.

1 - Dragonborn Paladin.

Full plate armour! Sheild! Mace! All that's missing is a helmet. A well deserved numero Uno!!! 

The dragonborn head is less massable but incredibly cool.

Not until new Infos show up I guess. But anyways, if they were not true, I am pretty sure we would have heard about that already.

Looking good, not much new to see but we do see Strahd and Tasha's alt faces, as well as the cover of Tasha's spell book.

Also a better look at the sorcerer's armprinting, which I hadn't noticed before but zooming in on the leaked tick list render you can see it there too.

And now that I know to look for I can see armprinting on Tasha( maybe, not 100% on her but I think so) and dual moulded arms on the dwarf. There are some others where I still can't tell as neither picture has a good angle on the arms.

Obviously we have the image from the catalogue now, but it was pretty much confirmed the second we saw the Ideas set as the Githyanki in the CMF has the same hair/ear part as that sets Elf just recoloured. A fake picture wouldn't really be likely to have had an unknown but real part on it.

It’s amazing the difference a render can make. The figures already looked good before, but now they’re even better  One of my favourite CMF series they’ve ever done!
