Jarreth2 Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 See I don’t 100% get why they went the minidolls route .. the film is going to have some dark undertones ( the book certainly does ) I dont see minidolls fitting this well .. and yes I know there’s nothing we can do about it .. someone left a comment on Instagram asking if we could persuade ( they used the word bully but 🙄 ) Lego into changing their minds the way fans got Sony ( I think ) to change the appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog after the outcry of his appearance in the first movie trailer. But my first thought was .. well thats gonna be a huge NO ! 😂😂 Quote

But my first thought was .. well thats gonna be a huge NO ! 😂😂 No is the only answer to that.... Sets are made over 6 months (or longer) before they are revealed and / or sold. So everything Wicked has been made already. There is no way Lego would redesign sets (and they would have to, because minidolls can fit in places miifigs can't!) print new figure designs and create new art work just like that. It just isn't feasible.... and why should they do it anyway? Because some people don't like minidolls? LEGO does crap tons of market research to figure these things out - they know what they are doing. If the polls and play tests say dolls over figs, then why should they lessen the potential profit by saying "Nah, we'll ignore the research we just conducted and do it a different way!"? LEGO is in the business of making the most money they can, so this idea people get that they should listen to silly demands is ridiculous in the extreme. But I digress... Quote
living_off_lego Posted May 24, 2024 Posted May 24, 2024 I don't really see the hate with the sets having minidolls. to me its the same thing and I'm happy to get glinda and elphaba at all! do we have any predictions for the sets, I hope of of the mid sized one is the dorm split down the middle. also, do you think there are going to be soundbricks to represent the soundtrack of the film, it is a musical after all! anyways I haven't had the chance to talk about the sets yet and those where my thoughts. Legocollinfreak Posted May 25, 2024 Posted May 25, 2024 Predictions: Part One: Train - probably a cheaper set. If not the train maybe the Ozdust Ballroom or something. Shiz - needs a dorm room for Popular. Wizard's Palace - for Defying Gravity could just be the Emerald City in general but I bet they do something modular so with part two we get more of the city. Munchkinland - I'm only saying this because they have the pink Glinda dress on the site and she only wears that in the beginning during No One Mourns The Wicked. They have said the sets are only based on part one so that's the only time in part one Glinda would be wearing that outfit. Part Two: Munchkinland Expansion - Thank Goodness Scene Emerald City Expansion - Glinda's Room in the Emerald City you can see in the leaked CinemaCon stuff. Also could include the Witch Hunters (aka Dorothy and friends) Kiamo Ko (Wicked Witch's Castle) - For Good Yellow Brick Road Construction Scene - A new scene that leaked I could see being a smaller set. Add in a little mermaid-style time dragon D2C, some brickheadz, and lego art. Quote
EdWebhead Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 LEGO just teased on their Instagram story something Wicked related coming tomorrow so looks like we'll be getting our first look at the sets. Excited to see what they've cooked up! Quote
strangely Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 The Lego version of the trailer dropped. It doesn't seem like they show any set builds, but they do show off a handful of the minidolls. Honestly, i think minidolls were the right way to go, I think they really capture the costuming and overall look of the characters. The hairpieces are a highlight, but face prints look good too, Glinda especially bears a good resemblance. Based on the minidoll variations featured, it seems like we'll get a set for their arrival to Shiz, potentially the dance and something in the Emerald city (just a guess though). Quote
PotterBlocks Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 (edited) Okay a needlessly thorough examination of what I believe are the real minidolls coming in the sets based on the trailer: Glinda: 4 variants (long pink Popular dress / pink suit / Oz Dust ballroom gown / bubble gown) Elphaba: 3 variants (school uniform / black dress / grey gown) - assuming the black dress will come twice maybe once without hat and once with hat. The glasses look to be photoshopped on so don’t think there’s a face variant actually including them Wizard Madame Morrible Fiyero and lastly I’m pretty sure Nessarose - only see her from behind but I’m 99% sure that is the mini doll wheelchair recoloured in pearl gold which would be new indicating it’s included in the sets. I’m betting she uses the torso seen at 00:49 in the trailer - pretty sure that’s not an existing piece reused like everything else the “background” characters use in the trailer, and the arm colour would match Nessarose seen from behind in the levitating wheelchair scene theres a lot of characters shown in school uniforms but I believe it’s only Fiyero as a real figure. The other figures either reuse his torso, or those with a feminine frame have a weird texture to them so believe they’re photoshopped and/or custom painted Edited May 29, 2024 by PotterBlocks Quote

Jarreth2 Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 The Lego trailer was done well and I like a lot of the pieces used .. finally well done to Lego for using light tan to represent blonde hair and not using bright light yellow .. I’m hoping a lot of these pieces will fit minifigures, they usually do. I like Madame Morrible’s hair piece and Galinda’s too. The hat hair combo of Elphaba is great. Fiyero’s hair could have been dark brown for me, but meh easily sorted. I keep banging on about it ( but I don’t care 😂😂 ) one of my favourite Lego fan artists on Insta posted this a couple of hours ago .. Lego look at what you should have done ! This is a work of art 😍 https://www.instagram.com/p/C7kIYA3p2gv/ Quote

I can’t wait to see taht hair color to show up in other theems - licensed and. In-house! Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted June 26, 2024 Posted June 26, 2024 Thanks to @Brick Clicker, we have some new info: 75684 Emerald City ($99.99, 945 pcs) 75683 Hidden Bedroom Box ($69.99, 740 pcs) 75682 Buildable Elphaba & Galinda ($54.99, 558 pcs) 75681 The Palace Boat Trip ($29.99, 304 pcs) As pointed out in the Wednesday thread, it’s interesting to see buildable figures in a minidoll theme! No idea what to expect there Quote
OttoRiver Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Genuinely shocked no train set or larger Shiz set given how prominent it will be in the first film. I'm expecting the buildable figures will come with regular minidolls of Glinda in her pink bubble dress and Elphaba in her wicked witch outfit as I don't see where else those would be in this lineup. Quote
Fenghuang0296 Posted June 28, 2024 Posted June 28, 2024 Why are we getting buildable figures instead of a train. Why. Optimistic for the Emerald City though! Quote
karrit Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Pictures of boxes for the four sets have leaked on discord, supposedly official images. Quote
Classic_Spaceman Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Those dollheadz are so megablocking cursed!! 😬 Quote
JeanGreyForever Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 I have zero interest in the movie but the Emerald City set might be worth picking up with a sale just to have a setting for The Wizard of Oz minifigs. Really wish Lego gave us sets on the MGM classic instead though. Quote
Jarreth2 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 A definite pass from me .. I just don’t like the styling of Friends sets .. or minidolls. I ‘know’ they’re aimed at a younger audience, but the builds and styling of them all is very child like. I hoped Emerald City might be worth getting, but no. I think I’ll bricklink the hair pieces and attempt to customise some minifigures of my own. The buildable figures are something we’ve never seen before I suppose. The box art is so so garish, again to appeal to youngsters obviously. Strange how they’ve used the full word Dormitory on one box and then Shiz Uni on another, it really should be Shiz University. I wonder if they might do an adult set at all. Highly doubtful, but you never know 🙄 Quote
Lemerbrix Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I’m intrigued on the buildable minidolls! Quote
Huigberts Builds Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I really don't like 3 out of 4 of these sets. The only one that looks somewhat interesting is Emerald City, reminds me a bit of 41232. Probably gonna buy it just so I can display my minifigures. The green tophat is also pretty nice for a purist Mad Hatter. Other than that, easy pass. Quote
Lyichir Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I love the buildable dolls! As a longtime fan of buildable action figure themes I've long brainstormed how Lego could adapt that concept to the doll market. These are quite cute! Quote

I ‘know’ they’re aimed at a younger audience, but the builds and styling of them all is very child like. A younger audience than what? Minidoll themes have just as much spread of age range, build difficulty and detail as any other playtheme. The big Minions set for instance is 8+, lower than Emerald City at 9+. Sure 9+ Emerald City might look a little flatter and smoother than for instance the 8+ Ninjago Temple of the Dragon Energy Cores, but that might match the source material and Emerald City still has heaps of sideways building, as does even the 7+ set. They also look no less detailed or complex than the Sonic sets, and in fact many large City sets are targeted even younger and are thus smoother and simpler still. I'm not saying you have to like them, but I don't like this persistent myth that Friends or minidoll themes are dumbed down compared to anything else at the same age range. Sure different themes treat the age ranges a little bit differently, but overall LEGO does have guidelines for what's acceptable in the different advertised age recommendations. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I quite like these builds, especially the Emerald City set! Even the buildable figures are a lot cuter than expected. And is that a new water lily piece? Now if only they had minifigs rather than minidolls… Quote
EdWebhead Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 I'm actually pleasantly surprised by these sets! While it's not at all what I was expecting or hoping for from LEGO Wicked, I think they are solid builds and I plan to get them all. The buildable figures in particular are excellent, and I love seeing something new from LEGO in this regard. I could see this style carrying over to the Disney Princess line which I think would be great. Of course I would prefer minifigures, but I've gotten over it and I'll enjoy the minidolls for what they are. Hopefully for Part 2 we'll get another wave and maybe even an 18+ set with minifigures. LEGO seems to be trying a lot of new things here and providing a lot of variety so it would be a welcome surprise. Quote
Jarreth2 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 @BrickBob Studpants I noticed the new waterlily piece in a few of the builds too 👍🏼 Quote
