EdWebhead Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 That is a massive disappointment if they indeed are minidolls. I get that Wicked skews more female, but girls like normal minifigures too! Only hope is if we get a larger D2C set with normal minifigures as well like the live-action Little Mermaid did. Quote
TeriXeri Posted February 15, 2024 Posted February 15, 2024 (edited) I wonder how LEGO is gonna deal with Fortnite sets, since the LEGO is not shown anywhere outside special LEGO game mode, avoiding any usage of minifigs with modern guns. I doubt they'll make anything related to battle royale locations, at the very most the bus. Of course that does not mean they have to avoid characters, as they clearly converted over a 1000+ skins for the LEGO game mode already. I wouldn't mind seeing a set with like a battle scene of some fortnite characters vs a Brute (a monster in LEGO Fortnite). Or if they want some minifig opponents, it could be one of those special treasure chest / campfires where groups of enemy minifigs spawn (pancake head guys in grassland, pirate/cowboy hats in desert etc) I doubt they would recreate like the buildable buildings from the game, as they are quite complex with thick walls and would require a lot of pieces at scale, and would be much larger then even modular buildings for a regular house, the starter shack is like 16x16 but it looks very basic. Virdenemt Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 Minidolls = I won't purchase. I really wanted Wicked sets. Darn. Quote
Lion King Posted February 18, 2024 Posted February 18, 2024 When Dreamzzz arrived last year, there is one minifigure that caught m attention it’s Mr. Oz. Why? HIs name automatically make me think of Wizard of Oz. It made me suspious that Lego is doing Wizard of Oz sets? But Mr. Oz has nothing to do wiht Wizard of Oz/Wicked at all. I mean, he is all about space. So I shrugged this thought off my shoulder. Now we are going to get Wicked sets. Quote

LaytonsApprentice2 Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 I just found a Reddit comment dating back to September last year saying that we're getting Lego sets based on Wicked: https://www.reddit.com/r/Barbie/s/5yU2Qdie25 Turns out we could have known much earlier haha. I'm so excited for the first pictures and I'm honestly hoping the mini doll rumors aren't true. Quote
Jarreth2 Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 With the announcement of Peter Dinklage voicing Dr. Dillamond in the movie … does this mean another new goat ?? Hopefully in minifigure form 😂🤞🏼 Quote
Jarreth2 Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 The trailer dropped yesterday and I’m looking forward to seeing what Lego produce for this movie .. just please please please don’t be minidolls 🙏 Quote

It's probably still gonna be minidolls but until we see it I'll have a sliver of hops ( I mean more hope for Wednesday rather than Wicked as that's what I'm more interested in.) Quote
Jarreth2 Posted May 18, 2024 Posted May 18, 2024 @Agent Kallus me too .. although for me it’s Wicked .. but I have the same sliver of hope that Wicked ( only my opinion ) has a very much more adult fan base .. not saying kids don't love it too .. but fans have been waiting, very roughly, almost 10 years since rumours of the Wicked movie first began to appear, I’m leaning more towards the use of minifigures .. literally just thought too that when Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin-Man and the Cowardly Lion appear in Wicked part 2 Lego already have the moulds for these minifigures, sure they’ll have to alter some of the printing ( ruby slippers will need changing to silver ) I doubt they’d reuse the existing flying monkeys though. Time will tell I suppose. 😁👍🏼 Quote
Murdoch17 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 The Wicked sets are being revealed soon, as LEGO posted a theme teaser on Facebook, and Brickset posted an article with the official press release. Minidolls are confirmed as well as a release date - October 1st. Quote
JohnTPT17 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Shame it's minidolls - unless they're going to try to use this to make minidolls more appealing to adults/teens? Even then, I don't think it will work. Hopefully the builds follow the trend of recent Friends sets and has solid builds, even if there's no traditional minifigs to go with them. Quote

Agree on your minidolls points. What does everyone want from this theme? I want that train from the movie trailer so badly... an Art Deco streamlined steam loco? Yes please! Jarreth2 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Oh well .. worst fears confirmed .. I’ll see what the sets look like and see if I can make some custom minifigures to go with them .. Elphaba’s hat and Glinda’s haor look quite good. Just been reading all the comments on falconfans post about these and practically all ( not 100 % but not far off ) the comments say ‘why minidolls” .. “should be minifigures” .. roll on October. ☹️☹️☹️ Quote
Jarreth2 Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 (edited) Just a quick thought .. and I know Lego would never ever do it .. imagine if they included the parts to give you the option of having minifigs instead of dolls .. like the hair / hats accessories are universal ( mostly ) Lego .. you listening ?? 😂🙏🏼 Edited May 20, 2024 by Jarreth2 Quote

The only way that I can see this happening is if we got yellow Minidolls (or Minifig torsos with fleshie hands), and Minidoll version of existing Minifigs pieces. Quote

Minidoll themes are obviously successful, and LEGO (probably with input from Disney) made a calculated decision to do a Minidoll line for this film. As an adult fan who also doesn't really care for minidolls themselves, I still feel that sets containing them are some of the best LEGO is producing at the moment (Botanic Gardens, upcoming Victorian BnB for my personal tastes, but the rest of the Friends line and Wish sets are on par or better than every other line of playsets). These days, I think anybody who is completely put off by the mere fact that a (good) set contains minidolls rather than minifigures isn't thinking about it quite enough. I'm a huge minifig fan so I get that not having minifigures for a new property is a drag, but a good set is still a good set, if these turn out to be good. Quote

I've thought for years that Friends is probably the best theme LEGO does, as it encapsulates everything that LEGO is good at so very well. From purely anecdotal personal experience, my three year old seems to find it easier to play with and pose minidolls, perhaps because the feet are fixed, so it's easier to place on studs. Although they bend more easily at the waist, so it's not quite that simple. Attaching them to seats with the foot grips is also easier, possibly. Maybe this is a reason for choosing minidoll if they expect younger fans to be into the sets? Also, does the more human-like proportion of minidolls make it easier to build real-world settings to a more accurate scale/proportion, which is important to IP owners and model appeal, or am I overthinking it? Quote
EdWebhead Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 My only hope is that we also get an 18+ set with minifigures down the line like The Little Mermaid remake did. Minidolls are fine, but why not make sets with normal minifigures as well? Surely an Oz-themed set with minifigures would be incredibly popular. I understand making minidolls since this is a female-centric property, but it's just frustrating when we're not even given an alternative. Why does it have to be one or the other? I'm just hoping the sets are at least on par with some of the recent Friends stuff rather than the very simplistic Disney Princess line. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 I‘m sure the theme will provide some nice-looking sets if they‘re on par with the recent Friends offerings and we‘ll likely get quite a few interesting new parts out of it if the teaser‘s any indication, but it‘s still a bummer it‘s a minidoll theme I get why they went this route tho Quote
