I've always wanted to build a medium sized garbage truck, and the tanks of garbage trucks in my country only come in 3 colors: green, blue, and orange. Since I wanna build the rear loader version I need the 5x11 tapered panel. Unfortunately that panel is not available in any of those colors, until today. Thanks to the new panels in this set I can finally build something like this.

Great idea for a B model

Milan Reindl design for sure

If Milan's authorship is confirmed this will beat McLaren not only in price and playability but also in alternatives. I havent though to get this until I saw the chosen color and new tyres, very likely to pick this ... first. Amazing year!! McLaren would probably have to wait for '25

Im not gonna try to turn this set into a garbage truck. What I mean was that I was gonna buy the panels in reddish orange to build the garbage truck I want.

I'm not sold on this so far. I really don't like the Kawasaki style engine, especially in a full sized car, would have preferred less pistons to less mechanical realism. Also, the way the locking diff is controlled directly on the rear axle is not up to the level of a Technic flagship IMHO. But we haven't seen the gearbox yet, so maybe there is some good stuff happening there? So far it's a pass from me.

yeah, I feel like adding some round tiles on top of the yellow conrods would have helped

I'm glad it has these parts to be honest however, because I don't have them yet so it makes the set a better parts pack.

I didn't get 42110 and I regret it (though I have the parts to build one in white and another in yellow), So I'm getting it and modding the crap out of it!

The looks are okish, the tires great, and for the functions... They at least make room for improvements and modifications :)

I think it is a great little sett as a base for modifications, a little like the Unimog. Room enough to make some cleaver solutions to control the diffs, to modify the suspension setup, and maybe to make some manual gearboxes.

I can see myself moding it as a old G240 or G300 from the 80s with 4 speed manual and reduction gearbox as well as front and rear diffs. That would also include a full rebuild of the front for a solid axle setup and an i4 or i5 engine.

G300D W460 short wheelbase is IMHO best G class ever (my wife had it as used car and even today we can not forgive ourselves that we got influenced by economical / ecclogy friendly smaller car...and spld it :cry_sad: )

Another mod idea is making the Squared MOD with portal hubs and larger tyres, mudguards and other details.

They look ~4.5 studs wide, 10.5 tall (usual 81.6 x 36 probably?  maybe closer to 90x36?), real one's widest is 275/50r20 = 275 (or more) wide, 780 tall, scaled to 81.6 that would be 29mm wide, so it's only about 125% wide, not 200%

When you zoom this image  you can see 87.9 x 36 writting on tire...so it is new tire that follows philosophy introduced with Audi...

I have portal hubs with brick built fake disk brakes, ill PM the file if interested, yes it looks like this set has the same wheel hubs as 42143.

edit: oops, I meant planetary/audi hubs, my modded 42177 will have these, probably planetary hubs.

Perhaps they put the ones in front introduced with Audi because they have bigger steering angle

...and it have double shocks at the front...we saw that before (somewhere )

my mate @GooberReboot guessed that there will be new angle connecter between #2 and #3 (2,5?)

@GooberReboot is right of course. This new connector probably has a 15° angle. Don't think LEGO would do something like half increments of 22.5° (11.25°).

Oh, ok.  So at scale it should be 87.9x31 and is only 16% different (if widths are measured the same way... so +-5% to that)

I'm chuffed about that :DD I wonder if this new connector will have the number '7' but it would probably make more sense to have this new connector as well as future similar ones to have the numberings as being 13,14,15 so that they kinda is a resemblance to the number 3 4 and 5 connectors but still a distinct difference

I take my previous comment back then. But it would make sense for new conenctors to be in 11,25° interval, so you can have even angular spacings.

To make 31 mm wide, TLC should develop new rim, since thid 56mm medium wheels are 34mm wide

but the front has small CV joints :(

the rear is probably just a solid axle + axle joiners

I wonder how the doors are opening without catching on each other, i doubt theres a double hiinge mechanism and there's no 0.5L gap like in 42110

You are right, they are smooth, so older with smaller turning angle...

Rear is solid axle.

Well, I already named it #7 so if LEGO wants to use the same name, tough luck, it's copyrighted now. Of course I am willing to negotiate for the right price. ;)

Yeah, imagine that inline 6 being 12 modules long. Very realistic :)

Realism didn't seem to bother Lego when they released a rear wheel drive pick up truck, multiple single wheel drive supercars and a Countach with a dual wheel axle like an 18-wheeler. And if if you think some yellow pins going up and down are more realistic than a proper cylinder, piston and crankshaft assembly just because they are the correct layout, I rest my case.

This is a toy, an abstraction of reality, there is always a trade-off. You can either squeeze an oversized engine into the engine bay and equip it with parts that are closer to reality, or you can make it smaller and simpler but with better overall proportions. I'm not a fan of the new design, but I wouldn't favor an oversized engine with the old parts either.
