NV Lego technic Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I wonder how a g-wagon would look with hypercar tires Quote
BrickWild Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I think this looks way better than the Land Rover Defender! Quote

Low profile tires don't belong on rugged SUVs, but G-wagen owners seem to disagree with me! Well, probably not quite as low profile as the Daytona rims, but still... It is interesting that those tires could theoretically fit the Lego model, though! I'd be curious to see what it looks like, though I certainly wouldn't want to keep one that way long-term. I do expect to see lots of mods with 94mm truck tires, though! Quote

Dazzzy Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 (edited) I might not be able to get my hands on this set when released, but it's definitely at the top of my want list. I love the colour, and they've captured the looks pretty well. My first mod would be is to change the track width and add beams to extend the wheel arches by a stud. [EDIT] I was hoping that connector angle was new, and it looks like indeed it is! I just really hope they do one of those new angles in red in the future, as it would help with a MOC I'm currently working on myself. Edited July 10, 2024 by Dazzzy Quote

You can either squeeze an oversized engine into the engine bay and equip it with parts that are closer to reality, or you can make it smaller and simpler but with better overall proportions. I'm not a fan of the new design, but I wouldn't favor an oversized engine with the old parts either. Exactly. And for me it is more about building one of the more venerable aspects to gas-powered vehicles (the engine) the same way, with the same elements, for the past decade. I tire of that. I welcome the new elements, and replicating engines with these new elements, despite the "cons" of doing so. Though I do wish they could be the colors as mentioned by @allanp several pages ago. Imagine all the gearbox gears being gun metal grey, with a tasteful ring of colour printed on them to help the casuals tell them apart. Or all pneumatic hoses in black with their end faces printed different colours. This would allow far more colour coding options but also done in a much more visually pleasing way, the best of both worlds. How about a dual moulded textured rubber over plastic steering wheel? I really would enjoy that and have been asking for that for years. Building with such elements would provide, for me anyways, much more of a "premium" feel than the clowny colors we currently build with. Quote
NV Lego technic Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 This may not be the most popular opinion, but I kind of like the colour coding, not because of it's utility, but simply because it's giving out a pleasant feeling. Quote

If a proper L6 doesn't fit in the car there is always the option for a V8, which this car also comes equipped with, meaning 4 studs shorter. If there is a will, there is always a way. Also, we are long past the excuse that these are "only toys with abstract proportions". Everything labeled 18+ and over 150 bucks is clearly meant for adult builders. Otherwise why would they even bother to close up the bodywork? The actual reason is that the functions are secondary to the display value / look, or else we wouldn't see something as dumb as a manually operated diff lock by turning the model upside down. Quote

Well, you can only photograph it by turning the model upside down, but it's easy enough to operate it with the vehicle upright by reaching under the back bumper, it's not like the ground clearance of a supercar. Agreed. But they could at least make it controllable from the chassis, like this it feels too basic. Quote

The 2024 g500 is equipped with an L6. The specifications of licensed models often follow the wishes of the licensing partner, if they want their latest variant represented, that's what they get. As I've mentioned before, I'm not a fan of these new "pistons", but an oversized engine wouldn't be any better. Honestly the half pins and axles were still the best in this scale, at least they were generic parts and not something specialized but still weird. Quote

I'd have preferred less pistons, like an inline 4 over this. This is a step backwards in authenticity. I don't buy the "If the licencing partner wants" argument. So the licensing partners might have preferred one thing over another, so what? Let them buy Legos entire production run then. If the fans want something else then screw what the licencing partner wants, they ain't paying for it . Quote
